We are going to find out in the next chapters but to be honest I still have no idea how it will go. Maybe someone will die. Maybe this is going to be some sort of Shakespearean tragedy. Maybe they will all survive... there are only a couple of chapters left though 😩 We will see!

“Take her and her daughter”, a familiar voice says, “The bitch is dying tonight, just as her daughter and her king”.
Everything around Cathy is spinning. She looks at Regina as she’s dragged out of the car. “I need a doctor. I need to see a doctor, please. Please…”, she whispers but nobody reacts to her request. She looks around, trying to recognise any faces but she can’t focus. Everything seems blurred and as a doctor herself she knows she needs to be checked but she is more worried about the baby in her womb. “Aren’t anyone listening to me? I need a doctor! Now!”, but again nobody reacts to her.
“Her child… she isn’t here”, one of the thugs yell, causing a commotion. “The old lady, she is dead though”.

Chapter Four: Hostage
One hour earlier…
“Have you heard from my wife yet, Bastien?”, Liam walks into the conference room at the palace where Drake, Bastien, part of the council and members of the King’s Guard wait for him.
Bastien stands up quickly and bows to his king before replying to his question, “No, your majesty. I haven’t had any contact with her team. It isn’t uncommon, they are probably checking the ground and making sure tehy are prepared for any occasion, but I’m expecting news from them within the next hour”.
Liam nods and looks at the others still bowing to him. He takes his seat and scans the room carefully. Who is friend? Who is foe? He can’t be sure but he has to trust his instincts and try to stop this madness before it even starts. This is his country. The lands his family has been protecting and fighting for - the people his ancestors have been serving for centuries.

“Take her and her daughter”, a familiar voice says, “The bitch is dying tonight, just as her daughter and her king”.
Everything around Cathy is spinning. She looks at Regina as she’s dragged out of the car. “I need a doctor. I need to see a doctor, please. Please...”, she whispers but nobody reacts to her request. She looks around, trying to recognise any faces but she can’t focus. Everything seems blurred and as a doctor herself she knows she needs to be checked but she is more worried about the baby in her womb. “Aren’t anyone listening to me? I need a doctor! “Her child... she isn’t here”, one of the thugs yell, causing a commotion. “The old lady, she is dead though”.
Without being able to see clearly, Cathy closes her eyes and a tear runs down her face upon the news that Regina hasn’t survived the violent crash. She hears the same familiar voice yelling nervously but she can’t make out what is being said. She feels herself being brought to another car and she tries to fight but she is in no condition to do so.
“Wait!”, the familiar voice yells nervously and quick footsteps approach Cathy, “You bitch! Where is the bastard?”
Cathy tries to look up but it takes too much of her energy.
“Where the fuck is the bastard? Don’t make me ask you again!”
Cathy shakes her head but next she feels a blow to her head and loses conciousness once again.

Back to the Capitol...
“We need to tactfuly maneuver now to efficiently deal with these many of opponents”, Drake whispers.
Liam watches his guards fighting fiercely. ”Divide and conquer is my best bet”, he whispers, watching from a secret door what was going on at the entrance of the palace. “We can do this”.
Bastien holds Liam’s forearm forcefully, “That’s completely out of question, Your Majesty. I am going wherever you go”.
“I appreciate your opinion, Bastien. However, now it’s about more than just me as your king. Fighting as separate forces is our best chance”, Liam checks his weapons one last time. “Drake, you take the left wing. Bastien, you go right. I’m coming from the back, through the guardens. I know this palace like the back of my hand, we’re gonna have to surround them”.
Bastien shaked his head but he knew that probably was the best idea. “Okay, your Majesty. I’m sending a few guards your way though. Surrounding them does have the element of surprise”.
“Brother”, Liam looks at Drake, “I’ll see you in a bit”. Turning his head to Bastien, he whispers, “For the land!”.
“For King and land!”, Bastiens replies.
“For King and Land”, Drake repeats.
All three leave the secret space and head out, each one taking the direction agreed upon. Liam heads for the back, through the patio and crossing the second building before achieving the gardens. It’s dark but the sound of shots and the smell of gun pounder are still in the air.
Making his way around the palace, he takes an oil lamp and heads to the maze. In his mind, the most important thing to him, his family. For a moment he asks himself why he didn’t leave. It seems like putting all this in front of the safety of his family, was indeed a mistake. However, the safety of his family is directly connected to these lands. Who is to tell that they are ever going to stop? His daughter being his successor, the heiress apparent, would always be a threat to these people. The Cordonian people would never stop fighting their oppresor and for King Liam’s heritage to ascend the throne once again.
“STOP RIGHT THERE!”
Liam moves quickly but after a loud bang, he falls to the ground. He feels a sharp pain on his calf and realises that he was shot. Quickly, he trows away the lamp and manages to hide between one of the bushes, moving like a shadow, through ways he and Drake used to know so well.
“He was just here”, someone says and soon enough, the enemies find themselves under fire. ���Fuck. He fucking shot me”.
Liam wasn’t lying when he said that no one knew that place the way he did. His injury way a problem but he knew he could still be of help to the others. He unbuckles his belt and fastens it around his calf, interrupting the blood flow. He struggles to get up at first but then adrenaline kicked in. He moves as fast as he can but before he’s able to leave the maze, he feels a weapon on his neck.
“It’s over, King Liam. Now turn around. Slowly.”
Liam stops and realises that things are quieter than expected. He shakes his head but follows the instructions. “Lord Basildon... it’s always a pleasure”.
“Shame that I can’t say the same, Liam”, he stands there with four guards behind him. “I never thought you’d actually be so bold and go around the palace without any form of security”.
Liam smiles, “It’s king Liam for you. And not everyone here is scared to fight their battles... without extra manpower”, he looks at the men behind Lord Basildon.
Lord Basildon smiles, “There is no fight, “King” Liam. You’re nothing but a king without a kingdom”.
“And yet, I’m so much more than you wil everl be.”
“You are the reason why so many lives had to be lost. You couldn’t just follow the rules. You couldn’t just marry who you were supposed to marry. You couldn’t just follow the path you were supposed to follow and lead the kingdom with the one you were supposed to lead it with, Olivia. But no, you rather do that with a nobody with a bastard”.
“What is your problem? The people accepted Catherine as their Queen. These traditions have been created centuries ago. A union between Olivia and I would never have been a loving marriage. It wouldn’t be fulfilling for neither of us”.
Lord Basildon takes a deep breath, “You love your child, don’t you? Wouldn’t you do anything to make her happy?”
Liam opens his mouth slightly but before he says anything it hits him.
“I have never had the right to marry the woman I loved. And still, I accepted my burden. I watched another man playing father to a child that was mine. My flesh, my blood. And I could never live the life I had envisioned for us because it wasn’t what was paved for neither of us. It wasn’t acceptable to break the rules”.
“Olivia...”. Liam whispers.
“She is mine. She is my daughter and I wasn’t there when she needed the most. But I’m now, to give her what is hers. Her birthright. I had my cross to bear, you have yours”.
Liam shakes his head, “I’m sorry you had to go through this, but this was a choice you made. And my family, my wife and kid, is mine. I choose them every day and I will keep choosing them every day of my life. I risked what you never wanted to. I risked everything because what is a king without the people that make the burden easier to carry. Leah is my flesh and blood. I would never give her up. I would never give my wife up. And it doesn’t make me an unfit king but a loving one. A king that understand values”.
Lord Basildon laughs but before he says anything, one of his guys call him for a moment. They whisper and as much as Liam tries, all he can understand is his wife’s name.
“Where is Catherine?”, he asks.
“I have upsetting news for you king Liam. Unfortunately, there was an accident. Regina didn’t survive it”, Lord Basildon explains.
Liam lowers his head, taking a moment to understand what was just said. “And my wife?”
“Oh, she survived the crash... but”, he smiles.
Liam looks at Lord Basildon with rage.
“But she didn’t survive Olivia. You know my daughter’s temper. She can be a little... too intense sometimes”, he jokes.
Liam shakes his head, “This isn’t true... this cannot be”. Liam cups his temples and tries to understand it. His love can’t be gone just like that. It feels like an eternity but it’s been just seconds that he is standing there with all this pain.
The anger and rage that he tried so hard to control take over and he jumps at Lord Basildon. His hands on the Lord’s neck. “I’m going to kill you with my own hands and I will make sure your daughter pays for this. I’m going to completly destroy your bloodline. Are you listenins to me?”
“No, you are not”, Lord Basildon replies whilst his men take Liam away. “You have no choice. We are trying to locate your child, there will be no signs of her once we get rid of your shame. If you want this kingdom, you will have to marry my daughter. Her family is the next in line”.
“Not if I prove that she isn’t a Nevrakis”, Liam yells.
Lord Basildon chuckles, “Well, if you are not marrying Olivia, you are only walking out of here in a body bag”.
Liam doesn’t want to believe his words. His Cathy can’t be gone. It can’t be... and his daughter. If this is true, he has to save her.
“I’m not marrying her... I want to make a deal”, he speaks clamly whilst tears stream down his cheeks. “She can take the kingdom”, he closes his eyes, thinking about everything he once had. “But you can’t touch my daughter. I want Leah to be raised by Drake and Meg.They are both Americans. Send them away. They won’t stay in your way”.
“Are you saying...?”
Liam throws his weapons on the floor and kneels, “I’m ready. I’m ready to go...”
“Your daughter will be taken care of”, Lord Basildon aproaches Liam with his weapon pointed at his head. “Isn’t love a beautful thing. You rather die for someone that means nothing in this world. So selfless, aren’t you? Any last words?”.
“May Olivia receive what she deserves. May her reign be yours and her downfall”, Liam whispers.
“You’re making this quite easy for me, Liam”, Lord Basildon replies.
Bang! Bang! Bang!

Chapter Four: Hostage
One hour earlier…
“Have you heard from my wife yet, Bastien?”, Liam walks into the conference room at the palace where Drake, Bastien, part of the council and members of the King’s Guard wait for him.
Bastien stands up quickly and bows to his king before replying to his question, “No, your majesty. I haven’t had any contact with her team. It isn’t uncommon, they are probably checking the ground and making sure tehy are prepared for any occasion, but I’m expecting news from them within the next hour”.
Liam nods and looks at the others still bowing to him. He takes his seat and scans the room carefully. Who is friend? Who is foe? He can’t be sure but he has to trust his instincts and try to stop this madness before it even starts. This is his country. The lands his family has been protecting and fighting for - the people his ancestors have been serving for centuries.
