IT'S BEEN TWO MONTHS SINCE A MAJOR PIECE HELLO!! 28+ Hours, 26,000 actions, & 900+ layers later... It's complete!!! Aaaghhh!! I'm so hyped over this drawing still. It's so beautiful. It's actually been finished for a few weeks, but I wanted to complete the speedpaint before posting the drawing (it's on my YT channel already!)
I actually took an 18 day break in the middle of working on it, I got so burnt out! It took me completing 4 pieces - one from Omori, two of Scara, and one of Diluc for me to regain my motivation.
I honestly recommend watching the speedpaint, since I definitely can not go into as much detail as I'd like here, but the thing that was the most challenging was probably the hair. tl;dr, made wayyyy too good of a concept sketch that any attempt at lineart looked awful!! (blame that for the burnout LOL).

2023 ART PROGRESS SHEET (+update)
I am super, SUPER late to posting this-... whoops!
I initially had a different unposted drawing as December, but I changed my mind on it and set it to scarameow instead. I also got hit really badly with burnout and just... couldn't do anything. For a solid month and a half. (Blame a break after Persistence!)
Either way, I wanted to make sure this was posted anyway. I honestly feel like I improved a lot this year, especially since August. I'm really proud of myself this last year, and despite the burnout I think I really made some amazing pieces.
I do have a finished drawing (last WIP on hoyolab was the hint!) that I will be posting as soon as the speedpaint is done lol!! I had a speedpaint for Old Friends, but because I posted the piece before I edited the speedpaint, I just.. never did it lol.
Anyway, thank you for patience and your time as always!! Here's to 2024! <3

Cake Comparison!
The first drawing is from my oc's birthday art April 2022 (although it does say the date on the photo...) and the second is from two days ago!
I purposely kept the cakes very similar so I could do a comparison, and damn! So cool. Also, there is a small detail on the wanderer's cake that I wonder if anyone will notice? One cool person did. (spoiler is in the tags lol)
Anyway, so cool. Still not looking forward to the strawberries.

Ta~Da! Two drawings within a week! That’s a new record! Happy Birthday, Wanderer! This actually turned out really pretty, and it was fun to see how I improved drawing cakes in a year.
I actually drew this all in one drawing session, 4 and a half hours straight from midnight to 5am lol!! My poor, poor sleep schedule…
The hardest part of this was the strawberries. Mentally, at least - actually drawing them was easy. Other than that, the hardest part was probably the skin, I had a hard time getting it to look right with the lighting from below.
Time taken: 4 hours, 38 minutes.
Layers: ~300
Actions: around 8,000

It's so cute????
So, hey hey! Motivation is funky, as usual - so my current major WIP is put on hold while I figure out what I'm doing - but in the meantime... scarameow! The idea popped into my head late last night (roughly 3am) and I had to draw it, and so I did~! It actually turned out really cute, and these last few drawings (not yet posted) I've done have been really good practice and it's nice to actually get some projects done.
Some parts of it are definitely messy (we are not going to talk about the hands) but it's still good practice! Especially for the nose, since I've changed how I do it and am still learning the new technique.
The most difficult part of this was actually the eyes (and nose), took me a while to get it to where I'm happy with it.
-Took about 2~hours
-gif of timelapse in next post!
-I wanna say it was about 200 layers? I used a technique of drawing directly ontop of the lineart rather than underneath like I usually do.

"Old Friends; Moon & Rain"
"Old friends… We meet, yet again."
…
38+ hours, 39,000 actions, and 915 layers later…. "Old Friends; Rain & Moon" are complete!
If I could give one theme to this drawing, it would be "too much". I got so obsessed with making it realistic, with improving, to the point there was too much of everything. Too much detail, too much shading, too many hairstrands, too many leaves, too much rain.
Admittedly, for a long time I lost the simplicity in my art - I got stuck again in losing my direction I was heading in.
It took a lot of very long, tear-filled and frustrating conversations and observing my art to realize my mistake (being "too much"). And those conversations happened every. single. time. with each of those things I listed.
Hence the 38 hours and 2 months this took.
I plan on posting the speedpaint of this, it's recorded and I'm working on editing it, it's just.. a lot, too lol. I'll update once it's done tho!

"To whittle oneself away, to tear your enemies apart - that is the power of a blade."
...
Over 15 hours (+5 if you count the speedpaint editing time), and 1,000 LAYERS later... "Persistence" is complete!
I was inspired by a frame in Blade's follow-up attack and always thought it was pretty, so I drew it in my own way! I did a lot different with this drawing, I'm actually really proud! I tried to learn from my last few and improve on the face.
The most challenging part was probably the clothing? I had to redo quite a few parts of it. The eyes and expression were quite challenging too... Went back and edited them 5 separate times lol.
Time taken: 15+ hours (+5 if you count the speedpaint editing time)
Layers: 1,000!! I included a gif of the layer setup.
The process gif, progress sheet, speedpaint link, and layer short will be posted in a few minutes!
