Business Update
Fleet Street Goods hasn't had the best week we haven't made anymore sales.  I had an extra long work week so was not feeling like investing too much of my extra time into the business.
It feels easy to put the extra work off when I am tired after a long day.  I guess one could say it is easier to make excuses.  I need to promote the business as I have only just started the instagram account but haven't done anything to make us more visible online.  Our marketplace add is still online and I added the stain options for the product but the add itself hasn't brought in a lot of interest.  There has been a lot of views but not a lot of customers.
I felt so bad  because we had a request for a plant stand on instagram and somehow I dint see the message for a week.  I reached out the her and apologized but have not heard back from her.  So a definite learning lesson there.
We will keep plugging along and inject some more enthusiasm this upcoming week and push to the end.

Business Update
Progress is happening at Fleet Street Goods I sold another plant stand which is great.  I added a color swatch to our instagram page to show all the possibilities that customers have.
We have had the most interest in the plant stands which maybe isn't surprising to me since plants seem to be all the rage right now and I am certainly one of the ones that are rather excited about plants.    It is good I think to have a range to show people what we can make and have even discussed adding things in the future.
Local online markets have filled up so that is a bit disappointing.  Not a great option for selling this year but also earned a lesson to not put things off.  I think I will contact a local plant shop and see if that would be interested in carrying our product in store.
Finding the balance of having enough made to sell is also a difficult decision as we don't want to have too much product around that isn't selling. It will just take some time to figure it all out.

Business Update
We have officially put the business online.  I posted one of our products on Facebook marketplace and added our instagram account name to it to view our other products.  We had out first sale within a couple hours which I was surprised about.  I was immediately nervous about the idea and was worried. After talking to my husband he helped me to not be too worried about it and just take it one step at a time.
When I posted online I asked for feedback from a couple family members and some friends.  Any tips to improve what I posted were more than welcome.
Next step would be to create more content on instagram and have a stronger presence online.  I just wanted to get some photos up so that I could get over the jitters and deal with things as it came along.  The postings on instagram could be more clear with options we offer and pricing and sizes of the items so there are less questions that need to be asked

Business Update
This week has been a good week as far as production goes.  We have a couple plant stands completely finished and stained as well as a couple charcuterie boards and a few soap stands.
I have spent some time photographing the product and trying to get some nice shots with nice lighting.  Having troubles with the idea of posting photos on instagram and not having the account look empty.  I feel like I can only take so many photos of a plant stand and boards without it becoming repetitive.
We still need to post the product online to sell but I have been looking at around at some Christmas markets.  A lot of the markets are online this year which is a bit disappointing  because  actually being able to see the product and feel it would make it easier to sell that's for sure. One of the main Christmas markets  in Kingston is already full but I have found a couple more that could be a possibility.
Plugging away at this concept has been challenging but also rewarding with regards to learning new things and facing the challenges that come up. Happy to be doing it even though it seems like a struggle some days.

Business Update
This week in the course has been a bit slow and lost a bit of motivation as my full time job has been busy and have struggled with prioritizing making progress on the business.
I really need to schedule time in to focus on moving this business forward.  I am still feeling a bit nervous about it all which makes it easy to put off showcasing what we are making to the public.  I am learning that this is what I tend to do with anything creative I think about doing. I worry too much about what others will think so I just don't  it. A huge goal for me  by the end of this course would be to overcome some of these feelings that I have.
My husband will be making more product this weekend which will mean I need to take some photos  so we have something to put online.

Business Update
Progress has been going well and we have begun to make some different items to sell.  Along with doing wooden plant stands and charcuterie boards we are making custom plant stands to sell as well.  I have attempted a few different finishes on the products and have gotten feedback from family and friends.
I am feeling excited and a bit anxious about actually having someone purchase the product because I hope that it is well received.  There are moments where I fear criticism but know that we will do a great job and will listen to all feedback and suggestions even negative ones.
I have created a business logo on Canva and have attached it below.  This was fun to create and makes the progress we have made feel a bit more real.

Where will I get my money?
For the course and beyond I see that we would use personal investment and love money.  Because of my husbands job we would not for the near future consider a full time business as we are most likely not staying in the same spot for a length of time. In this case seeking outside help such as and angel, business incubator or government grants and subsidies would not be helpful.
We have savings, investments and a personal line of credit that would be used for most small business ventures of interest. These options would allow us the flexibility to pay back the initial investment on our own schedule with minimal interest incurred.
Love money has been offered to us by family and would be considered in the right situation, as in only when there is a clear repayment plan or the amount of equity shared in the business is understood by all parties. Borrowing money from family can be a problem in some situations but I would feel comfortable with it as long as there were certain rules and terms in place.

Operations Plan
It is a bit overwhelming to think about actually taking something in my head to having it made to sell. There will be a lot to do to accomplish the goal of some profit by the end of the course.
My husband will be my partner in this and the one doing a majority of the manual work. He has experience using all the tools necessary to produce our product. I will be able to lend a hand staining and sanding the pieces to sell. I will also be the one to manage selling the product and monitoring our social media account and promoting sales.
We do not need to get any license or permits for out home based business according to the City of Kingston website.
Making time and having a plan will be very important as both my husband and I work full time so it will be easy to put things off for another day. So having a weekly schedule will be imperative. To launch our business we need to set up an Instagram page with photos of the products and set up a way for customers to pay for the product. I would love to get some prototypes made and get some options on colour and size and really any input that may be helpful in the production of the products. Purchasing wood and some stains is necessary to get us started on the path to a finished product.

Ideal Customer Persona
Ideal Customer Persona- working mother with young kids
Working mother with a young kids who likes to be on trend without spending too much money on brand names. Wants her home to be beautiful while being budget conscious. She loves handmade items that come from local business.
She hears regularly about the newest trends from social media and her friends.  She watches a lot of YouTube videos about design and DIY but either doesn't have the time or tools to complete theses projects. She cares about what others think so she  likes to change things up in her home to keep up with the trends.
She has a beautiful home that is taken care of.  The home is not brand new but has had some renovations to make it her own.  With having young children she finds it difficult to do all the projects she used to.
The market for her is offering too many expensive investment pieces that she will mostly likely in a short time not want anymore.

Competition
 Fielddaygoods- Etsy
This company makes a variety of things but right now they only have two styles of cheeseboards.  The shop is simple but pretty and they have great reviews. One thing that sets them apart is that the boards are hand carved so they have a real beautiful rustic look. I could not find much of an online presence except for etsy.
Shipping is free which is a definite positive but they do not offer returns or exchanges
Primrose- Online shop
This company has a beautiful website and online shop. The website is easy to navigate and has a variety of options. Primrose does custom work for furniture or just about anything you can dream of or you can order from their collection online. The have a wide offering of home decor.  Most of the products home decor products for example the soap stand you have a choice of 13 different stain options.
The deliver some some provinces and not all and it varies from province to province but hope to deliver throughout Canada soon.
Prices are on the higher end which make them less accessible for a lot of people.
They have a strong social media presence and have a gorgeous instagram feed which is curated to their specific style
Crawford Creek Designs - Online shop
Have a lovely website that is easy to navigate.  They offer Cutting boards, and BBQ scrapers as well as some seasonal items.  This company focusses on locally sourced wood from family run mills using limited pieces and ends. Their motto is so make pieces that bring family together and to passed down through generations.
The will do custom orders and wholesale but I could not find anything on the website about shipping and I couldn't find any reviews.
Because these are heirloom pieces the prices are on the higher end which makes it something that might not be accessible for most and certainly a purchase that is thought out before.
They have an up to date instagram page and seem to be quite active.  They have teamed up with a nearby influencer to promote and sell their boards which is a great idea.  Jillian Harris is a very popular influencer and am sure this has brought them a lot of business.

Strengths and Weaknesses
I would say that one of my strengths is that I am incredibly hardworking. No matter who I work for or what I am doing I always try my best.  I really hate to disappoint people.  I am an extremely empathic person and would say in a lot cases to my detriment.  I am always worried about others and most often put others needs and feelings before my own.  I am very aware of what is going on around me and can certainly tell if something is not quite right.  I would say I am often taken advantage of in a job because I find it very difficult to say no.  I am a people pleaser and always want to impress.  This has held me back in life with making decisions and taking risks.
I try to look at this as a positive aspect of who I am as it makes me a great listener, dedicated, and as stated above hardworking. This also makes me a  team player and someone that others want to work with and work for.  I will often be the last to leave and first to arrive
Building up some confidence in my abilities and strengths will help me with my dreams of owning my own business.  I will need to take some risks and maybe disappoint people and will have to work on saying NO!  Working on my strengths and celebrating my weaknesses is what I think will bring me success
