Yes, to a lot of this. I just don't think I agree with the image of an ideal relationship. If you ask me, an ideal relationship isn't about the amount of power held by an individual taking part in the relationship. It's about how one handles that power. One (like a god) can have power without acting on it, without using it.

You mention that consent isn't really consent if there are conditions to saying no (e.g. you might lose your job, or more extreme, your life), I definitely agree with that, and in a lot of cases where one side of the relationship holds (way) more power than the other, it is often not possible to safely say no. But as I said before, it's about how one handles the power.

In my opinion, an ideal relationship is one where they treat each other as equals, no matter the amount of power one of them might hold.

I can't really think of any cases in Greek mythology right now on the spot, but it does happen.

As you said, all of this does not mean you can't appreciate the stories!

I’m kinda on the fence over wether or not Circe assaulted Odysseus, I mean she swore an oath to never do him harm so I’m not sure he only had sex with her so she wouldn’t turn him into a pig (tho I do remember her turning a guy into a bird bc he was loyal to his wife but I can’t find the source rn).

Tho I’m less interested in Circe and Odysseus specifically and more about the Pandora’s box of implications over wether ANY god/mortal relationship is actually consensual, like ppl argue that there is no way Odysseus had any real agency bc if he refused Circe would turn him into a pig but if that’s the case why not apply this to Cadmus and Harmonia? Apollo and Hyacinth? Eros and Psyche? Or even Minos and Pasiphaë? The gods in each of these relationships have infinitely more power than their mortal partners but I don’t really see anyone talking about these power imbalances.

I’m not trying to argue one way or the other I just wanna know ppl’s thoughts on this subject bc I think it’s very interesting.

the man who owns and runs the thai restaurant in my town knows me by name. he is one of the kindest and most thoughtful men i know. i started ordering from his place back in january, which was when i got my fibromyalgia diagnosis. back then i was using a walker, had limited mobility in my entire body but especially my hands, and was very visibly in pain. i always ordered the same thing: yellow curry with no meat, potatoes and carrots only (i have texture and other dietary issues). he always made it a point to make sure i could get out the door and carry the food safely. he had his workers package the food so that it was easier for me to open. as i kept coming back and i told him a little bit about my health status, he would always encourage me to keep going. he told me about how the spices he used were good for inflammation and began to edit the recipe just for me so that spices that were even better for fighting inflammation were used. he’d give me extra portions and despite the fact that i would tip every time, i realized later that he never charged my card for them. as time went on and my condition began to get better, especially with the help of a physical therapist, he would make encouraging remarks and tell me how happy he was for me. the day i came in without my walker, he practically jumped for joy, and despite my insistence, he gave me my meal for free that day. i continue to make progress with my conditions and i continue to go to the thai place. this man who does not know me personally and who i hardly know anything about is one of my favorite people. it’s interactions with humans like these that make loving life easier. and his curry really does help my chronic condition. it’s comfort food taken to the next level.

I honestly am not even sure what action to take but please please please bring attention to this and reblog. We need to end AI and the act of stealing artists’ work. I can’t believe this.
