Halloween Mini Photo Shoots in West Sussex
Tumblr media
Halloween is one of my favourite holidays – I don’t really like to play favourites as I do love all holidays but there’s something about the spooky season!
So it’s been a really fun project for me to create this little Halloween themed set for my mini photo shoots on October 17th – there’s bats, cobwebs, and pumpkins – basically everything Halloween-y.  Can’t wait to see it in action! Read the full article

Newborn Photography with Added Love
Tumblr media
Newborn photography always comes with a lot of love but this has a little extra added in for good measure.
I’ve had these love letters for a while but they’ve been in a box in storage and the other day I thought I’d fish them out and add in a little needle felted heart that I made for a set of rainbow hearts to replace the O.  Love the result. The tiara?  Well it’s always a good idea to add in a little sparkle when you can! Brand New Range of Digital Backdrops - Made by Me
Tumblr media
I’m so excited to be launching my very own range of newborn digital backdrops that will be available for including in your session – designed and created by me.
I’ve been wanting to get into this project for a while, I love my stuff to be unique and this is a great way of ensuring that.  I’m not going to lie though, it’s also amazingly fun and a way to indulge my love of building mini sets.  Digital backdrops are a brilliant way of incorporating ideas that would be too time consuming to create in the middle of a session when the main priority should be working with your baby while they’re sleepy.Prop heavy set ups aren’t for everyone but you always have the option to add a digital backdrop and a prop into your session if you’d like to.  I’ve got a ton of ideas for fun stuff and seasonal options that I’ll be adding in over the coming months.  Can’t wait to share them with you. Cake Smash Photography - Life is Good
Tumblr media
This is Freddie at his cake smash and as you can see life is very good for him.  In fact, if you look up Joy in the dictionary, this might be the picture that’s next to it.
Cake in both hands, plenty more in front of you and a jaunty hat – what is there not to love about life when you’re in this situation?  Not all babies like to get stuck into the cake but Freddie definitely did and he loved splashing in the tub just as much – just an all round happy little guy. Newborn Photography - Popular Photo for Parents
Tumblr media
This little newborn shot is a very popular option for parents who want to get involved in a newborn shoot but don’t feel like being on camera – of course, it’s also a popular addition to a gallery for parents in general.
This particular shot was taken as an add on to a session that we hadn’t planned for but the mum fell in love with the image when she saw it on my studio wall and her little guy was still pretty sleepy so we capitalised on that fact.  Although it looks as though the baby is balanced in his mum’s hands, it’s actually taken by shooting downwards onto my giant beanbag so there’s absolutely no risk involved. Safety first always when it comes to newborn photography! Read the full article

Newborn Photography with a Favourite Bear
Tumblr media
It was only last week that I posted about having the chance to use my newborn wooden hammock for the first time and it was back in the studio nearly the next day – this time with a favourite bear to accessorise it!
It’s quite strange how props seem to get used in runs at the studio – you don’t use something for ages and then suddenly everyone requests it at once.  It’s always fun to see some old favourites come back into action.  In this case, this is a relatively new addition and it was lovely to get it out again.  When I used it before, it was with a super tiny baby and this time I discovered that a pillow is needed to add to the comfort for a sleeping newborn – when I work with a new prop, there’s always a period of working out how to get the best out of it.  I’ve now got a custom made pillow for it so I’m ready for anything. In this case, a favourite bear was used to accessorise the shot and I love the simplicity of the result.  It really keeps the focus on the star of the show (the baby, not the bear!)… Read the full article

Woodland Cake Smash - West Sussex
Tumblr media
Jessica’s mum chose my Woodland backdrop for her recent cake smash and tub splash photo shoot and it looks just lovely!
She also opted for one of my vest and topper sets to complete the look which you can order when you book your session and it will be waiting for you when you arrive at the studio for the ultimate in hassle free cake smash setup! For the tub splash, we added in the Love and Lavender accessory set to keep in with the woodland theme and with the rustic tin tub, it looked fantastic.  Cake smashes are the perfect place to go wild with themes and accessories and really indulge your imagination – you can’t ever be too extra with a cake smash! Blue and White Tepee Set Up
Tumblr media
My tepee set ups have been pretty popular since I introduced them and this one was designed to work with a set of Buffalo Plaid props.  However, his mum and dad were keen to stick to the blue and white theme they had planned and so we just adapted it.  All my props are created to be as flexible as possible.
I have to say it works perfectly as well and really goes with his little denim dungaree outfit.  A classic outfit is a great addition to any baby photo shoot, I’d recommend avoiding anything with characters and logos on it unless you are including them as part of a theme as they will date more quickly.  You’re always welcome to bring as many changes of clothes as you’d like to a session – obviously, not all babies love to get dressed and undressed but as long as they’re happy, we’ll keep creating images. Brand New Newborn Backdrop - To the Moon
Tumblr media
Introducing a brand new digital backdrop for newborns that I’ve just added to my collection – I’ve named it ‘to the Moon’ and I have to say, I think it’s going to be really popular with those folk who like a little bit of fantasy mixed in with their newborn photography.
It’s actually only the second ‘fantasy’ element I’ve added in to my newborn photography service as the rest of my digital backdrops are simply gorgeous props and set ups that I don’t have space to actually own in real life.  They all could exist in the studio (and they would in a perfect world) and the digital backdrop element is simply a convenient way of adding them in.  The other one is a hot air balloon set up that would be really hard to create in the studio for obvious reasons! Down in the Woodlands - Baby Photography
Tumblr media
Baby Roman went down to the woods while he was in the studio and how cute does he look in my Wild One romper?
The backdrop and outfit were photographed first with my tepee set up but then we simply took away the tent and blankets to create a whole different look in the finished image gallery. As babies don’t usually enjoy being messed around and dressed too much, I always try and plan a route through the session that involves getting as much as possible out of it without having to make any unnecessary changes.  Roman was more than happy to smile and pose throughout however, he’s a professional after all as this is his third session in the studio! Newborn Wood Hammock in Use
Tumblr media
This beautiful sleeping lady was the very first to put my newborn wood hammock to use and I was so excited to try it out.
It’s a brand new prop that I came across online and ‘just had to have’ which is the way it tends to work with me!  We had a great session as she was really peaceful and easy to move and we’d actually already done one prop plus a lot of work on my giant beanbag which is what we normally expect to get to during a session.  She was in such great sleepy form that we decided to get out the hammock as it was another favourite of her mum’s and make the most of the situation.  It is quite striking on its own and so it really didn’t need much dressing at all apart from the three little peonies and I love how the finished image looks. Newborn Photography and my Miniature White Bed
Tumblr media
My miniature white bed is a really popular prop when it comes to newborn photographs and this guys mum and dad picked it for theirs.
It has a lot of options when it comes to styling but to be honest, I quite like the simplicity of just a simple quilt and little fluffy blanket.  When we use this prop, as with all my props that are above floor level, there’s always a parent on standby just out of shot to make sure that everything is kept super safe while I move back to take the photography. I’d never put a baby at any risk to get a photo – safety always comes first and so, even though it’s immensely unlikely that they could startle themselves out of any prop, we NEVER take any chances! Brand New Newborn Prop - Wooden Heart Bowl
Tumblr media
I’ve bought myself a beautiful new prop for my newborn collection in the studio.  A gorgeous heart shaped wooden bowl!
I saw it online and just had to have it – I love it even more because I can already see it’s going to be incredibly versatile in terms of styling it to fit in with a photo shoot.  I couldn’t resist having a little play with some idea when I had it in the studio and the four looks below are just a fraction of what I had in my head.  It’s designed to be used (well padded of course!) with a swaddled sleepy newborn and I can’t wait to try it out for real. Baby Theo and his Bunny
Tumblr media
This is baby Theo and he is tucked up in my wooden bowl giving his bunny a good old cuddle at his newborn photo shoot.
It was actually a shot that I initially set up, minus the bunny, for a composite into one of my digital backgrounds so all that I really wanted was him in his little teal dungarees in the correct position in order to blend it into my background.  However, once I had done this, and I looked at him, I really liked the whole set up so I just modified it a bit and added in his toy to create a new image.  I’m a kind of ‘go with the flow’ girl when it comes to a newborn session – we make a rough plan in advance and then I grab any opportunity that presents itself to add to your gallery.  Theo was a sleepy little guy who didn’t really mind being moved around and so I’d have been crazy not to capitalise on that fact! It ended up being one of my favourite images in the collection… Read the full article

Baby Maisie in her Flower Nest
Tumblr media
Presenting baby Maisie, sleeping peacefully in her flower nest at her newborn photo shoot – the image of newborn perfection!
Maisie is what is medically termed as a ‘dinky dot’ (pretty sure that is the correct terminology) so my nest prop was kind of big for her and so I added some extra flowers inside so she didn’t look too lonely. Anyway, I’m pretty sure you can’t ever have too many flowers in newborn photography so I knew I was on safe ground. Actually not that she cared as she was fast asleep throughout the whole experience really, including photos with her family and big brother. Newborn Harry Potter - a Tiny Sleeping Wizard
Tumblr media
Nothing gladdens my heart more than when someone chooses my Harry Potter prop set for any shoot but a tiny sleeping wizard is always an extra joy!
My full version of the set has a giant trunk but that tends to dominate in a newborn set up so I modify it for my tiniest visitors so we can still get in all the Harry Potter goodies – including Hedwig of course. This particular wizard as very sleepy so we enjoyed creating lots of great images on my giant beanbag before moving over to something a little more Hogwarts to please his mum and dad who are, like me, Potterheads!
