for someone who's been laying down for 2 hours I sure do keep walking into a lot of walls (<- phrase for when I read something that gives me pause, regardless of emotion)

this may just be me going into overanalysis mode but i feel like the choreography of spellcasting can tell you so much about a magic user. a snap of the fingers, for example, implies confidence, even arrogance, while hands thrust out and straining to the fingertips suggests desperation, throwing one's whole body into the spell as though hoping the physical effort will make a difference. rapid, jerky body language tells you that a spellcaster is passionate and reckless, while graceful, fluid movements demonstrate calm and concentration. some magic users may choose to stomp their feet or clap their hands when casting, channeling power through percussive motion, whilst others may see magic as a tool separate from the self, and focus is through objects like a wand or staff. a new spellcaster just coming into their power may be tentative and slow, but a practiced study of magic will be able to rely on muscle memory to guide them.

sometimes i wonder about it

it was never relevant, but given she started off from a wizard base, & she pretty quickly got massively powerful, i wonder. had Nemisia sent an SOS call (like. "we are going to die without serious intervention" level emergency), would Yem have just. fucking teleported in? she absolutely knew teleport spells, so.

i feel like the bigger hangup there would be that it would have to happen within a very specific timeframe, because. up until a certain point, at the very end, Nemisia wouldn't have been willing to ask Yem for help like that. towards the end, it would've been a bit more likely both in and out of character

given that during the fight against Yem at the end I was. torn on what I should've been doing, because on the one hand I didn't want the party to die but also. it could've been interesting for a minute. though i was relieved when they managed to kill Yem (and Nemisia by virtue of "explosion spell at very close proximity"). iirc up until Nemisia got incapacitated, I was just running on autopilot of "cast spell on my turn" while I tried to figure out a way to resolve the situation (since I knew that Yem wouldn't just leave the party alone, even if they surrendered and Nemisia went with her, but it didn't seem possible to beat her either)

art is about spending an embarrassing amount of time trying to get something to look right giving up and then moving on to do it slightly better next time. at some point if you're an exhibitionist you then post it for internet strangers to look at.
