Yes yes yes! My series of oneshots is definitely going to be Percabeth after the war, heading to college, ignoring the stupid letters of recommendation
We really aren’t exploring the Perabeth college concept nearly as much as we should be. They finally get to live in peace and enjoy their youth. They can finally go on dates to the local café without the fear of a fight; they can stay up late watching movies instead of staring out the window wondering what’s lurking in the dark; and they can spend the day studying knowing there’s no looming threat of a prophecy. They’ve gone through so much, and they deserve to spend their college days getting to enjoy being young. There's so much fluff potential here and we're ignoring it

I know "60s housewives who invented slash fanfiction" has taken on a life of its own as a phrase, but Kirk/Spock didn't really exist until the 70s and THOSE WOMEN HAD JOBS. They were teachers and librarians and bookkeepers and scientists and they damn well spent their own money going to conventions, printing zines, buying fanart and making fandom happen. Put some respect on their names.

Do you ever see something like this:
Tumblr media
and think, "This'll be a fun little thing to read while I wait."
And then you read it and you're fundamentally changed as a person and you're left staring off into the middle distance as you contemplate life and love and connection and what it all means?

Love how tumblr has its own folk stories. Yeah the God of Arepo we’ve all heard the story and we all still cry about it. Yeah that one about the woman locked up for centuries finally getting free. That one about the witch who would marry anyone who could get her house key from her cat and it’s revealed she IS the cat after the narrator befriends the cat.

actually that ao3 post about calculating kudos-to-hits ratios to decide if a fic is worth reading has me so pissed off. someone put real time and energy into something they are SHARING WITH YOU FOR FREE on a site where you can quite literally filter and search by anything you want and you're STILL trying to find a foolproof method to find stuff that's "good enough to read"???
YOU ARE NOT THE TARGET AUDIENCE FOR EVERYTHING
you don't have to like or read everything in a given fandom or tag, but you also don't have to be a cunt about it and imply that it's not worth reading. this is the kind of shit that moves people to stop creating altogether, and to see people agreeing in the tags is so disheartening. absolutely unserious behavior.

Sometimes it's useful to look at your dialogue and ask yourself, "would a real human being talk like that?" But it's also good to ask the follow-up questions of "would the way a real human being talks sound good here" and "does this character actually talk like a real human being or are they weird about it."

“Transformative work is about repairing the deficiencies of canon” no, transformative works is about using canon as raw material. Sometimes that means fixing the canon. Sometimes it means making the canon worse. Sometimes it means slapping a pair of Groucho glasses and a silly hat on the canon and hoping nobody notices what’s really going on.

not to be controversial bc I know this is like…not in line with shifting opinions on fanfic comment culture but if there’s a glaring typo in my work I will NOT be offended by pointing it out. if ao3 fucks up the formatting…I will also not be offended by having this pointed out…
‘looking forward to the next update’ and ‘I hope you update soon!’ are different vibes than a demand, and should be read in good faith because a reader is finding their way to tell you how much they love it. I will not be mad at this.
‘I don’t usually like this ship but this fic made me feel something’ is also incredibly high praise. I’m not going to get mad at this.
even ‘I love this fic but I’m curious about why you made [x] choice’ is just another way a reader is engaging in and putting thought into your work.
I just feel like a lot of authors take any comment that’s not perfectly articulated glowing praise in the exact manner they’re hoping to receive it in bad faith.
fic engagement has been dropping across the board over the last several years, and yes it’s frustrating but it isn’t as though I can’t see how it happens. comment anxiety can be a real thing. the last thing anyone wants to do is offend an author they love, and that means sometimes people default to silence.
idk where I’m going with this I guess aside from saying unless a comment is outright attacking me I’m never going to get mad at it, and I think a lot of authors should feel the same way. ESPECIALLY TYPOS PLZ GOD POINT OUT MY TYPOS.

Um 4b has a huge terf/transmisogyny problem. Why are you promoting it?
you'll find that most feminist movements are trans misogynist because most people are transphobic.
you'll also find that many social movements are not perfect, especially considering the difference between Western and Eastern cultural revolutions.
you can support a social movement in South Korea while knowing that yeah.
no shit an Asian country isn't that inclusive of trans people.
how many Asian countries have even legalized gay marriage?
one?
Jesus.
I'm getting a lot of teenagers in my asks lately demanding perfection from every social movement.
you know that you too will be outdated and problematic one day, right?
all you can do is try to impart the values that matter to you, and keep an open mind on how society can be improved.
women refusing to have sex with misogynist men is something I support completely.
it's a shame that they're transphobic but it's a shame that the majority of this world is transphobic.
progress is not always linear, nor will it all be made at once.
once south Korea fixes its misogyny problem maybe then it'll start thinking about its homophobia problem.
