I am sincerely sorry for my low activity, due to university, I cannot devote as much time to Aelinore as I would like to. My skype and discord are available for mutuals - I will try to return to this blog once I really feel it again

❝ An apology is hardly necessary, I assure you. I appreciate you meeting with me on his behalf.  I am pleased our efforts were successful in protecting you and your people – We aim only to keep the peace in this land. ❞
The riots were troubling to both the Inquisition and to him on a personal level. Perhaps keeping the mages suppressed was not the proper answer, but the violence breaking out between their factions and others in the land could hardly be tolerated. Speaking to nobility was hardly his strong suit, but securing the loyalty of influential members of society was always worth the anxiety.

❝ Your support and the support of your husband are always appreciated. This fight stretches far beyond us and our forces. ❞
"Of course... I do not wish for the Inquisition to gain the impression we would not value your efforts to support the people of Thedas, and our city much in particular."   To be so...  statesmanlike felt most foreign to her, though she was aware of the duties that came with her position.
She smiled and nodded softly to signal her agreement with his last statement. "I believe it is only right, however, that this issue is handled not by a single nation alone. Pardon me, I am not... a grand master of politics, or strategy, but I do believe that the threat we are facing might be bigger than a single realm."

It took no diplomat of Madame Montilyet's caliber to figure that the squambles of different nations would only end up with them hindering each other.

@autosoterisms requested to speak the Duchess [ x ]
Tumblr media
“Good day, Commander Cullen. Please, do apologize my husband for not being able to receive you in person today. I wish to thank you, in the name of the Duke, the Mages of Cumberland and its people, that the Inquisition has offered protection to those in need.”
Her husband’s lack of action against the riots was revolting, though she dared not speak up against him or, even worse, speak a single ill word of him. Thankfully, the Inquisition had stepped in and no innocent blood has been spilled art the College of Magi. Dutiful Duchess such as she was, she now had to thank the Inquisition - or at least the Commander, who was the man behind the forces that marched up to protect innocents.

“You are here with the Inquisition, aren’t you?”
Aelinore had withdrawn from the rest of the party guests to sit down for a minute - the sweet wine was too heavy for her and clouded her head in an unpleasant way. Now, the music was a soft tune in the back of her head. Just some minutes, and she would feel better and could return to her guests, yet - there he stood, this boy she had not even noticed entering the room. Although he was wearing the colours of the Inquisition, he looked... off. His hat was too big for his head and his skin...
“You are so pale! Are you unwell? Come, sit down.” The boy definitely looked like he could not possibly feel well, as meager and colourless as he was.

“I am truly overjoyed you found time to visit, Your Worship. Please, walk with me. The Gardens are a delight, the weather is far too lovely to stay inside.”
The Duchess offers her arm to the Inquisitor with a smile and a nod towards the doors that would lead them out on the terrace and down in her gardens. Roses and other flowers bloomed there, maintained by the two gardeners of the estate occupied by the Duke of Cumberland and his young orlesian bride. This woman was exciting, Aelinore had seen countless elves, naturally. Servants, city elves who did not know the life of outside the gates of the cities and towns they lived in. But she knew that the Inquisitor was Dalish, and she was eager to get an occasion to ask questions.

“Call me sentimental, Teryna, but I do believe in the Inquisition, wholeheartedly. You see.... people come here to help, no matter where they come from, no matter who they were before. It’s inspirational, to see what unity can create.”
The gardens of Skyhold were wonderfully quaint, just as the rest of the place, though Aelinore was no particular friend of the mountain chill. Still, with sufficiently warm clothing, it was a beautiful place despite the biting cold on snowy days. Now, she walked with the Teryna Cousland who had come here like many other nobles to see the place with her own eyes - or at least, Aerlinore assumed that the noblewoman was not here for more hands-on tasks than simply her presence. Maybe she was even here on behalf of the fereldan crown? If she recalled her education well enough, a Teryn was among the highest-standing nobles of Ferelden.
“Tell me... How do you like it here so far? I feel like there is so little to be seen.”

“ Perhaps, one day. ”
The drabness of the sky suited his tastes far better, frankly. But he was in a rare mood where he had less of a need to enact his passive-aggression on others. Then again, it could have been due to the presence of a crowd. Five was more than enough for him, personally, even with the inclusion of Janna and his companion Luther, the latter of whom remained against a wall staring at company with sharp pale eyes. He couldn’t simply expect to walk away unscathed with such vague hostility. And who knows, perhaps these strangers would actually provide some real food and shelter. So far, it turned out a lot nicer than back at the isle.
“ Has it always been dreary like this? It seems as though all the foliage would wither away. ”
Tumblr media
“ You mean... you do not know what it was like? Gransys was beautiful, just few weeks from now. It has been harsh, such as any land, but it was beautiful - but now? It’s so... bleak and grim, and monsters flood the roads... It has not always been like this. No... something happened when Janna has slain the dragon. But I do not know what.”
Maybe this strange man and his pawn would know more... ‘tis was strange enough in itself: a pawn who followed someone who was no Arisen. Aelinore had not heard of such a thing, and yet did not ask out of fear of appearing... stupid. During her time at court she had already learned that sometimes it would be better to hide her ignorance than flaunt it as openly as she would without much care.
“I fear for this world, Serah, if I may be honest with you.”

“...  Do you think that the sky will ever turn blue again?”  The Inside of the humble house was like another world entirely. It always smelled of Selene’s herbs, homely lit with the heartfire. Her fine hands worked the needle with delicate precision to embroider another pillow. She’d not complained when the Arisen brought this stranger from her countless journeys, too overjoyed that she had returned at all. Still... It was getting cozy in here, to put it mildly. Aelinore was certainly no housewife, but she knew how to work with fabrics, needles and threads to craft whatever they needed to add some comfortable beauty to their home.
Aelinore looked up from her needlework to finally cast a glance at the strange man Janna had brought here. He was dour in another way than her late husband and his henchmen. Like someone who had seen too much for too long. “One could make such a beautiful garden here, but I think all flowers would die without sunlight.”
