Jaw clenched in an immediate reaction to his brother’s words. Grinding his teeth he fought back any retaliatory comment he normally would have shot out. At this point this was just normal Sesshomaru. He shouldn’t be surprised as to the lack of anything more. However it still did irk him a bit, to be referred to in that manner. But, he would bear it as always. He hadn’t come this way just to have a petty little argument.
It was the secondary comment that got him. Again, he likely shouldn’t be surprised. Yet he found himself feeling a bit of that anyway. He thought Sesshomaru would have been over allowing their father to affect him anymore. He generally seemed to put on that attitude. Was this jealousy or was it honest hurt that causes Sesshomaru to let slip this remark.
“Dunno why he’d give a damn about me. Mother’s dead. I’m grown. Don’t really need someone telling me what to do with my life.”  He made this statement, attempting to put on his own lack of caring. It wasn’t as if he wasn’t curious and wouldn’t wish to pull answers to lifelong queries.
Inuyasha noted his brother’s attention flickering when seconds after he’d picked up on the sounds himself. He lifted his head, drawing in the scents from the direction the sounds were coming from. It was a peculiar scent. Something unfamiliar but....not at the same time. The way it was rushing at them had him drawing Tessaiga and pointing it defensively.
When the small fluffy ....thing emerged, Inuyasha loosened his hold, wearing an expression mixed of confusion and disgust.
“The hell?”
Standing straight he sheathed his father’s fang and marched up to the thing. He proceeded to drop to the ground and poke at it. While it didn’t seem to appreciate this, it didn’t flee. When he couldn’t place what it was he stuck out his hand and grabbed it up in his hand the way he would with Shippo. Eyes narrowed and he took a lingering sniff. He finally turned, fluff in hand still, to address his brother who had yet to take his own leave.
“Kinda smells like us. But kinda doesn’t. Did you cough this up or somethin’?”  He had to throw in a half hearted jab. While he wasn’t attempting to be genuinely aggressive, he was only joking as he would with any of his friends. But the smirk he’d had faltered while meeting Sesshomaru’s quizzical gaze. He had nothing. He hated that this likely made him look as much the idiot as his brother accused him of being but he was  at a loss. This thing looked like the fur Sesshomaru bore, that Tessaiga bore. It smelled vaguely like them and had managed to draw them both in to this place. There was a time he’d have scoffed at fate but this felt too strange to be simple coincidence.
“D’you have any idea what the hell this is?” He raised his hand and pushed it out towards his brother as if to encourage inspection. He was looking to his elder for an honest answer, something beyond the usual way of treating him like an uneducated pup or an abomination. If he was so ignorant all he could do was attempt to learn, it wasn’t his fault in full for what he did or didn’t know.

Feet thumped against the warm earth, barely making contact. His arms thrown backward as he plunged forward. Thoughts whirred in the hanyou’s mind as he seemingly flew through the trees, hardly mindful of his surroundings. How the hell could this happen? There was no way....right?
Most talk like this would have been laughed at. Or been dealt with more aggressively as Inuyasha didn’t like being played the fool of. But he couldn't deny the level of curiosity within. Likely fueled by so many unanswered questions, unfulfilled whims of wishing he could talk to his family.
Well if he found out it was nothing but harmful rumor, he would put a stop to it. If he couldn’t raise the old man for his own reasons, he’d make sure that old man would be left alone by everyone else. Let the dead be dead!
“Master Inuyasha, please! As much as I wish your Father was still with us, this could be a trap!”
The flea loosed a shudder but held tightly as the wind rushed around him. Of course Inuyasha scoffed at him. He was no weak pup! He’d also fought enough enemies to realize when there might be danger. This was why he came mostly alone. “If all yer gonna do is whine you should probably run off.”
“I don’t run! I merely-”
The flea froze, eyes widening. The scent hit Inuyasha immediately, slowing him. Of course Sesshomaru would have to have been here too. Just what he didn’t need right now.
“Obviously. But seems like it’s a waste of time. Haven’t seen anything. I don’t smell em’. All that’s here is you.. Where you hoping to challenge the old man or somethin’?” He couldn’t help but wonder as to the type of family reunion his brother had been hoping for.

“Wonder what he woulda thought of me?” The hanyo didn’t tend to dwell on the what ifs or the fact that he grew up without a father. Least he hadn’t up till recently in his life where it seemed it started impacting his life more so. Strange how the old man could do that without ever having been around in person...
What would he have thought?

Rumors spread based off how much interest it garners from any listeners, and this one in particular caught the interest of Demons across the land, and it’s even reached the ears of some humans, though many of them didn’t understand the true significance of the rumors.
From what the rumors had to say, the Inu no Taisho had returned, but there was something different about him. That said, his might was something that couldn’t be denied as other Demons have been slain by his hand. There was a chance that there was some truth behind the rumors if Kikyo’s constant revivals were any indication that the cycle of life and death could be distorted.
Leaving Jaken and A-un behind to watch over Rin in the human village, Sesshomaru had ventured to trace down the mysterious individual who claims to have relations with his Father. IF Toga had returned among the living, what was his purpose now? Did he aim to reclaim his title as general and lord of the west? Had he been in search of his family?
If it were so, he had no intention of locating Sesshomaru by the way he hadn’t shown himself yet. Following the word of mouth from Demons that have crossed paths with ‘Toga,’ Sesshomaru found himself deep in the woods, where sunlight could penetrate through the leaves when the angle was aligned just right. He hears some rustling nearby, but he makes no movement to address who was causing the noise.
The scent he picked up minutes prior told him all he needed to know.

❝Have you also come to investigate, Inuyasha?❞
Should their Father have returned from the dead, the hanyo could finally meet their Father face to face and maybe have a bonding moment. Sesshomaru could leave after having quenched his curiosity. Sesshomaru notes that he could only smell Inuyasha’s scent, so he came alone.

He didn’t tend to allow himself to be treated so but he found himself feeling comfortable beneath Kikyo’s touch. The rhythmic motions soothed him, momentarily bringing him back to when he was just a pup and his mother held him to her, pulling her fingers through his soft tresses or rubbing his back.
His eyes had slid shut but he still loosed a gentle scoff at the words. Family. He only had so many memories of such a thing. Having a family had once seemed like such a sought after thing. He’d often been jealous seeing families enjoying the simplicities of their lives together. Meanwhile he grieved a human mother, wondered about a father he’d never gotten to know and feared crossing paths with his elder brother. Now he just expected frustration from those interactions. “Is it always supposed to be this way Kikyo?”
All these years, that was all a funny way not meaning any ill. He shook his head, but only barely, not wishing to push away her hand. “I find it hard to believe he had that many troubles.”  For so long he’d seen his brother as a snooty, spoiled bastard. It would take a lot for him to see beyond that.
Don’t give up? Eyes opened, molten gold looking momentarily to the priestess. That was  a hell of a thing to state. Pain in the ass or not, Inuyasha had never really enjoyed fighting with his brother. He’d prefer to walk separate paths than battle in a way where they both might think the other wanted the other dead. There was a soft, too human part of him that he could never keep buried that didn’t want any of it. That yearned for so much more. Theirs was a difficult relationship but he was unlikely to be the one to end it.
“He’s the only real family I got left. The only part of my father I’ll ever know.” He replied, gaze dropping back to his lap.

For a moment, years of jumping to protect himself had him freezing stiff to touch. Her scent wafted, easing him back from that anxiety. He leaned into the touch and heaved a deep sigh.
“He’s a damn pain in the ass.” He grumbled with a huff, eyes still staring towards the sky. “I don’t even know what to do with him. Or what the hell to even think anymore.”
Tumblr media
Once Inuyasha relaxed beneath her touch, the miko slowly began to stroke his head rhythmically and repetitively with the gentlest of touches. Her lips only stretched further, widening the small smile as she listened. “Such is the nature of family.”, she hummed in response, lightly massaging his head with her finger tips.
“I do believe he spoke the truth. Many demons may lie but with Sesshomaru, he never was one of those from what I have observed.” Her gaze turned towards the sky as well, thinking over the exchange. “It has certainly been difficult trying to know him..but I am certain he has his own share of troubles to overcome. Just..never give up on him. Beneath his thought provoking approaches at times..he does not mean you ill.” If he did, the persistence he shows for Naraku would clearly reflect in his encounters with Inuyasha.

A hand gently rested upon the head of the reflecting hanyou. Kikyou was silent but a gentle smile was present on her features as she provided some silent company.  At the very least, she hoped her presence and light touch would be soothing.[let's pretend he's sitting on the ground >w>]

Inuyasha would be left so sit and stare up after his retreating brethren, having more questions than answers. There was also a level of frustration he’d likely always have after every interaction with his older brother.
Tumblr media
Sesshomaru seemed to look down on him for being uneducated. Inuyasha was well aware he was. He was never able to get what amounted to much in the way of anything like that. Just odds and ends picked up along his travels from different people or demons. Being a hanyou meant he could never have a formal education anywhere. No one was going to teach him the fine points of being a demon. Human schools wouldn’t put up with him either.
Often his memories would surface, bringing him back to when children wouldn’t even share a toy. His mother would soothe his upsets. HIs father long passed on which was equally as frustrating. There was no one for him.
There had been times when curiosity had gotten the better of him, he’d poke his head near human buildings to gather what he hoped was useful teachings. It never took long for him to wind up chased away, cursed at and threatened. Demons only ignored him or attempted to eat him if he bothered asking anything. Inuyasha leaned to keep to himself for a long time.
Even his own brother had offered little. He’d grown used to that as well. Though now and again he would wonder what things might be like if either his parents had lived. Or if his brother had taught him anything beyond how to flee or defend himself. If he had stuck around the way family was supposed to.
But now he was left to wonder on Sesshomaru’s words. Surely he didn’t mean that? Looked like he’d be spending some time thinking on their many interactions in the past. The last thing he’d intended on.
“I AM NOT EMBARASSED!” He proceeded to yell at the sky, shaking a fist. Now he might have been. He wanted to be able to say just one thing to shut the smug bastard up.

It would figure. It was that. That would get under his skin. Not the accusation he’d murder his own blood. Not that he’d enable his brother’s death. Just a shitty comparison.
Yeah he wasn’t the smartest, especially when it came to the politics of word play. all Inuyasha did was speak his thoughts. In most cases, before thinking too much on it. To him a person was a breathing, being with conscious thought. Sesshomaru related it to being human. What a damn pain in the ass.
“When are ya gonna take the stick out of yer stuck up ass? Freakin’ out over a word. Ya got some thin skin.”  Inuyasha proceeded to shake his head and simultaneously rolled his eyes. He wasn’t even surprised. Just disappointed. Some one had to be.

Wha- What the hell?? He tried being honest, tried thinking thoroughly and attempted to be thoughtful of those he was close to and somehow none of them appreciated a damn thing he’d said.
“Aw spare me! I don’t wanna put anyone in harm’s way or have em’ doin’ anything reckless ta protect me! I know yer all strong in your own ways but damn! I’m tryin’ here you pack of ingrates! See if I say anything nice ever again about any of you!”
He proceeded to leap into the nearest tree to pout.

Shippo stuck out his tongue at the hanyou. "Neh. What took you so long? Had to stop and sniff a tree, Inuyasha?"

That little brat! Same old Shippo, never learned. He turned on his heel, eyes narrowing at the small fox demon and curling his fingers into a fist.
“I climbed a tree ta get a better view of our surroundings you little runt. Makin’ sure we’re not walkin’ into a nest of demons with a taste for fox runts. Unless you wanna go ahead and take care of em’ for us Shippo.” His voice suddenly became smooth, honeyed while his lips pulled into a faux smile.

Inuyasha, you're stuck defenseless on your human night surrounded by swarms of low-class youkai. Out of everyone you know, who's the one person you'd want to be stuck with in that situation? Would your answer change if it were one powerful daiyoukai?
Tumblr media
He used to trust no one when it came to that particular night. He used to loath that night. It made him feel weak and lonely, those feelings alone pissed him off. Inuyasha hated feeling lonely, hated admitting to even himself when he ever felt that way.
He stuck a clawed finger beneath his chin, staring at nothing as he thought on the questions. Damn these masked weirdos were nosey as hell!
“I’d probably stay with Kagome. Or even Kikyo if she was around. Their arrows would keep weak demons at bay.” Even if they were strong in their own ways, he didn’t like the idea of putting them at risk if it was them defending him in his human form against a powerful daiyoukai. There weren’t many beings strong enough he felt he could trust though.
“Guess if I had to I’d seek out that idiot wolf. He already knows about this. Sesshomaru is the strongest person I could pick but I’m pretty sure he’d leave me to die if he didn’t decide to kill me himself.”  Chances were he might be dooming Koga and himself depending on the daiyokai. But he really didn’t know what else he could do. Better him than the others.

Anonymous asked: On a scale of 1-10, how much do you admire your big brother ~?
Tumblr media
Damn. Damn Sesshomaru. There would always be a little part of him that wished his brother was more of an actual brother. Instead of just a bastard who wanted him dead. He kept that part of his thoughts buried down deep though. He was fine without all of that anyway. Wondering what his life would have been like if he’d had a better relationship with him did him no good. He’d found a family of his own anyway.
Admire though? It was difficult to admit to anything about Sesshomaru. But he’d be honest.
“He’s a shit brother. But he’s’ strong. Hard ta kill. Dunno if it’s good for them but, I guess he’s been a decent protector. Won’t lie about the fact he’s changed a bit. Took way to damn long. But, he’s softer than he used ta be. Guess I’ll give him a 7.”

If you were trapped in a cave in temporarily, who would you prefer being stuck with: koga, naraku or jakotsu?
Tumblr media
That was a horrid bunch of choices to offer. The hanyou proceeded to wrinkle up his nose as if something smelled rancid.
“Jakotsu creeps me the hell out.” That idiot was one of the types to call him pretty or cute. He wanted nothing to do with it. The wimpy wolf was a smelly pain in the ass. Naraku....well. It would mean he could finally try to rid the world of that. But, as much as he wanted to deny it, he wouldn’t be able to take him on by himself. Especially if he happened to be in his human form. If he couldn’t survive that, his friends were good as dead.
“Guess I’d go with the pea brain wolf. But don’t go tellin’ him I said that! I will sniff you out and make you pay for runnin’ yer mouth.”  How he wished he was strong enough to deal with Naraku...
