A revision knee/joint replacement involves removing the previous prosthesis and replacing it with the new one. Primary or the other surgical replacement techniques offers a good result for the patients, but it is likely that revision knee replacement surgery will be required 15-20 years after the first knee/ joint replacement surgery.

Unicondylar or partial knee replacement is an alternative to total knee replacement surgery for the patients suffering from osteoarthritis with the damage confined to only one compartment of the knee joint. It is a minimally invasive technique to replace only the damaged area with the implant. It is more beneficial to take out a specific area rather than replacing the whole knee cap. This procedure helps to preserve the natural state of ligaments and muscles. The latter fact helps one have a more natural feeling.

It is an advanced surgical procedure aimed at performing knee replacement surgery with greater accuracy and precision. Although it sounds like a complicated procedure, this surgery is an established practice and dates back to the early 1990’s.
The whole concept of ‘robot surgery’ might sound intimidating , but a robotic total knee replacement surgery is carried out by the surgeon and not by robot. The technology helps the doctors to carry out the whole process with precision and perfection than is possible with the conventional techniques. Although the robot makes demands, it is fully controlled and instructed by the surgeon.

Arthroscopy is a Keyhole surgery which is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that is used by surgeons to examine any form of joint in the body. Keyhole surgery is a safe and low risk procedure. The whole procedure is not much time taking and usually the surgeries are performed within a day. For the surgical procedure, two small incisions are made on either side of the affected area.
Through one of the punctured holes a surgical instrument is passed and through another hole an arthroscope is passed. (Arthroscope is a thin flexible tube with a light and a camera; an image is projected on the monitor so that the specialist doctor can see the clear image of the affected part).

Total Knee Replacement, also known as Total Knee Arthroplasty, is one of the most successful and cost effective interventions in modern medicine. Total Knee Replacement is commonly performed in the elderly population to relieve severe pain. The primary reason for 90% of total knee replacement surgeries is Osteoarthritis, followed by Rheumatoid Arthritis.
All forms of arthritis and other joint disease can lead to severe damage to the joints; cartilage is severely damaged, resulting in severe damage to the joints leading to unbearable pain. This is called end-stage joint disease.

REVISION KNEE/ JOINT REPLACEMENT
Tumblr media
The previous prosthesis is removed and replaced with the new one during a revision knee/joint replacement. Although primary or other surgical replacement techniques provide good results for patients, revision knee replacement surgery is likely to be required 15-20 years after the first knee/ joint replacement surgery.
Over the years, it is possible that your replacement surgery might wear out due to being overweight or playing high- intensity sports. You might need a revision surgery if your level of pain is increasing and the knee functionality is degrading day by day.
The main purpose of your surgery remains the same- to ease out the pain and to ease out the function and stability of your knee.
The procedure of the revision surgery is more complex than the first surgery.
Possible reasons for which the surgery is needed:
Infection.
Wearing of plastic components.
Acute pain
Instability of the knee.
Implant failure.
