though most people wouldn't believe the truth, iris baek was born in a trailer park in jacksonville, florida

before iris her mother crystal began her life in jacksonville, cycling through a series of failures and dead end jobs until she took up waitressing at a dive bar where she remained until her untimely death in 2000

crystal had iris when she was seventeen, the product of a deadbeat boyfriend who skated off with money from his rich parents and left crystal to fend for herself

from then on it was just iris and crystal, having been kicked out of the house by her parents

at first when iris was a child her mother seemed like superwoman, always taking them on adventures or buying her new toys but she was spending money they didn't have, racking up credit card debt and taking out loans they couldn't afford

because of her mother's youth and irresponsibility iris had to work from a young age. when she was fourteen she had a job in a clothing store at the jacksonville mall. it was here that a modeling scout discovered her and invited her to come take some digitals

though iris was wary the agent turned out to be legitimate and soon her digitals were sent off to la and new york where responses came back far quicker than expected

plenty of agencies were interested in signing her, desperate to escape the toxic loop of her mother's behavior she moved to new york into a model apartment with five other girls and started working.

by the time she was seventeen she was walking jean paul gautier and shooting international campaigns. her popularity had skyrocketed

she modeled for upwards of ten years but slowly began to step away from the industry disillusioned with the direction it was heading in the 90s and desiring to change it

that was how she landed at jade magazine. her provocative and progressive vision for the future of fashion interested to the executives. she quickly rose through the ranks to the position of senior fashion editor

her experience as a model gave her a unique perspective on where fashion was heading from the 90s into the 00s.

iris developed something of a reputation. while certainly charismatic she was exacting and expected nothing less of perfection from her department staff. if she felt you fell short she'd certainly let you know

now eyeing the position of editor-in-chief she'll do anything to push the envelope at jade and prove her worth to the position.
