About the AO3 "No Guest Comments for a while" warning
If you're not following any of AO3's social media accounts you might be in the dark as to what kind of "spam comments" have engendered this banner at the top of the site:
These spam comments have been posted about a great deal on the AO3 subreddit for the past couple of days. Initially they comprised a bunch of guest (logged out users) bot comments that insulted authors by suggesting they were using AI and not writing their own fics. Some examples, from the subreddit:
But it then escalated to outright graphic porn images and gifs being posted in comments, again by logged out 'Guest' accounts. Obviously, I'm not going to give examples of those, but between these two bot infestations, AO3 has clearly decided to act and has temporarily closed the ability to post comments for users who are not logged in with an AO3 account.
Unfortunately, this means that genuine readers who don't have an AO3 account won't be able to leave comments on fics that they enjoy.
If you are a genuine reader who doesn't yet have an AO3 account, I strongly suggest getting yourself on the waiting list for one. More and more AO3 authors are now locking their fics down to registered users only - either due to these bot comments or concerns about AI scraping their work - which means you're probably missing out on a lot of great stuff.
Hopefully guest commenting will be enabled again at some point soon, but I suggest not waiting until then. Get yourself on that list.
Wait times are going to be longer than usual at the moment, due to the current Wattpad purge [info on Fanlore | Wattpad subreddit thread], but if you're in line, then your invite will come through eventually.

Honestly it's a tie between several since I write mostly angst. But probably Emperor's New Clothes (it's marked incomplete but where I left it can be an end)

Not since I was on ff.net. Unless you count the bad translation of a fic where the comments said it was bad and made no sense because the translation was terrible.

Not with my consent, see above. It was a locked explicit fic so it was even worse. Someone else asked to translate an explicit fic but wanted to take out the... explicit parts... and post it offsite. And then told me I was missing out when I said my terms were that it stays intact without parts cut out and has to be posted on ao3 and locked, like the original.

I legitimately can't imagine how I'd react to being accused of plagiarism since I don't... read. Not even don't read fanfics, I don't even read books. I have not read a book since I graduated high school, and even back then it was difficult for me to read (I had to stick a bookmark or a ruler in a book to track the lines).
I have neurological issues and I'm visually impaired. I physically cannot read long text (ok at a PUSH but I don't do it for FUN). I always have my screen super zoomed, browser extensions to make it easier for me to see webpages, and I have to click+drag highlight to read most things. And no i'm not gonna use a screenreader either, not until my vision is completely gone lol
I don't even read my OWN fics after I write them (and if you've read them, you are probably putting two and two together huh). I literally write it out, send it to a friend, if they find something wrong I ctrl+f to find it, fix it, save. I literally post the "rough draft" of everything I write.
Call me a fake writer all you want, my imposter syndrome will agree.
Okay so my reaction would be click+drag highlighting a post to read it, laughing out loud like a hyena at someone thinking I'd actually read, sending it to all my friends, and just blocking the person.

Since a friend has been accused of "stealing" a fanfic (they didn't) here's a step by step guide on how to handle if you think you've been plagiarized:
Look up what actually counts as plagiarism (having the same idea isn't).
Message the person in PRIVATE and be civil.
Bring forth evidence of similarities, such as exact wording, sentences that look word swapped, again IN PRIVATE.
Bring in a NON BIASED THIRD PARTY to review both works. (aka not YOUR friend or echo chamber group chat)
Accept the outcome even if it's not your favor.
If your accusations are true, politely ask them to remove the work.
If they refuse you can have it submitted for professional review. But you may find that you were still wrong in the eyes of a professional.
Here are things NOT to do:
Make a callout post (with no information at all, especially)
Insult the other person's writing (uh if you're saying they stole it from you... wouldn't that make YOUR writing bad?)
Invite others to harass the person (I don't even care if they DID do it, DON'T do that)
Block every single person sending you proof that they're not even close.
Be angry simply because their work flourished while yours flopped. Sometimes things just get that perfect time and place and yours just didn't get it. Getting outrage clicks and views from this are hollow.
Even if your accusations are correct, do not defame the other writer.
Realize that this is a free fanwork and it is not a big deal.
Throwing a fit because other people are "successful" when you aren't is a bad look. If you are having trouble with your emotions please seek professional help. Aggression and outrage over something this small, especially in an amateur fannish setting is not normal. This is a hobby and it's for enjoyment. If you find yourself not enjoying fandom, you can always leave it and enjoy things on your own. I wish you all the best on not only your writing but personal growth.

how do we fandom oldies (and I'm YOUNG for a fandom oldie) tell these children trying to police our content that their parents probably read our fanfics
yes I was too young to be posting fics when I started (me, aged 12, nervously clicking "I am 13 years or older") but I have been posting longer than the kids telling people what they do is wrong have been alive
let me write my fics in my retirement home in peace or I WILL be forced to write things that are WORSE
I was a kid in an adult space and you know what I did? I stayed in my fucking lane. I knew I wasn't supposed to be there, I didn't make trouble for them, or try to get them in trouble, or actively take away their own spaces they made for themselves. We're not responsible for children on the internet (unless they're our own actual children), if you found something that disturbed you that's your parent or guardian's fault. kids, you clicked past the age gate, you lied, and now you're getting other people in trouble. sounds like someone needs their electronics taken away. learn some basic internet manners, use the filters, and stay in your lane
go back to using dolls and toys to make fanfics like we all did as kids. barbie isn't going to feed her husband a dinosaur so she can jet away with her transformer lover on her own ok
#kids have always had dark imaginations#and then they go on the internet and suddenly it's a sin#anyone who grew up with dolls made stories better than most tv these days with more angst and drama

Fandom PSAs
Dont’ Like, Don’t Read
or DL; DR
You are responsible for curating your own online experience.
If something upsets you, makes you angry or queasy or triggers you, stop reading/looking at it. Avoid things that might make you feel that way.
Learn to use the Sort and Filter function on AO3, especially the Exclude tools.
On social media, block and mute accounts / tags / words when necessary.
If you hated something, you don’t need to tell that to the creator or start pointing fingers at them publicly.
The Back button is free. Use it.
Addendum:
Yes, for this to work, creators need to tag their works accordingly, so that people know what sort of content they are about to engage with and can nope out if necessary.
I will probably make another PSA about the importance of proper tagging later.
Ship And Let Ship
or SALS
You are allowed to ship whatever you want.
Everyone else is also allowed to ship whatever they want.
You are entitled to dislike or even hate a ship. If you want to do this online, in public, don’t use the ship tags for hate posts.
If you see someone posting about a ship they like and you don’t, there is no need for you to start arguing with them in their replies / comments / QRTs / reblogs. Don’t throw your hate in their face.
Do not harass fan creators or fans for shipping something you disapprove.
All of this also applies to liking / disliking an individual character.

No, then you are NOT agreeing with this.
Let me make this VERY clear. There are NO exceptions. None.
You don’t EVER harass real people over pixels.
If you disagree with this, kindly block and move on.
Your Kink Is Not My Kink

The longer version is ”Your Kink Is Not My Kink And That’s Okay”.
People have different tastes. Not everything is for everybody.
Even if you don’t like a specific kink, other people are still allowed to use it in their creations.
You are entitled to dislike kinky content and think that it’s ”weird”.
Don’t kink shame or judge people based on their kinks.
This goes both ways: your kink is not someone else’s kink, so don’t push it onto those who are not into it.
Be Kind
or Don’t Be An Asshole
Focus on the things you like instead of the things you hate.
Create and unite instead of destroying and dividing.
Don’t harass real people over fictional things.
Stop stirring up petty drama just to get some attention on social media.
Stop trying to ”win”. Fandom is not a competition.
Remember that your own experiences aren’t universally shared. Your perception of things can differ from someone else’s, but that doesn’t mean either of you is necessarily wrong.
