“Something we have in common, then.”
Chishiya let out a grim chuckle at the idea. It wasn’t something he could deny even if he wanted to. The thrill he faced every time he took his life in his hands was unmistakable. And over time... he’d realized nothing else could compare.
That he and Therion were the same in that respect didn’t come as a surprise. As much as the two irritated each other, they’d always had their similarities. In fact, that was half the reason they barely got along in the first place. Chishiya had never been fond of people who reminded him of his own flaws.
But this wasn’t really the time for arguing. The hour was late, and everyone ( including the two thieves ) had settled into their bedding for the evening, bothering with idle chatter only because not everyone could fall asleep quickly. Chishiya decided to behave, ignoring his ire at the parallels between himself and Therion. He rolled over, pulling his blanket closer around his body.
“The difference is I can patch myself up after pulling a stupid stunt.” He had no doubt Therion could hear the sneer in his voice. “So don’t go doing anything too half-assed and idiotic, okay?”

Skylar after defending Rosa probably “You’re safe here. No one can hurt you.”
The words didn’t even register in Rosa’s mind at first. Rattled, she scrambled to fix her scarf and hat, carefully tucking away her pointed ears so that they wouldn’t be seen by anyone... least of all the one who had protected her.
“Thank you– err... Sorry?” Rosa paused, uncertain what else to say. Grateful as she was, keeping calm under pressure was a skill of hers that left much to be desired. “What I mean is... you didn’t have to do all that, but thank you.”
A lifetime of being grabbed, clawed at, and manhandled by strangers who insisted on treating her as a spectacle had somehow never managed to her sweet and kindly disposition, but it had made her plenty wary of letting anyone get too clear a view of her ears or eyes. Even while expressing her gratitude, she fidgeted with her scarf and glasses, making sure she was well covered. Things would be easier the less her savior saw.
“You’re not hurt, are you?” Rosa asked as she continued to fiddle with her accessories. “If you are, I can fix that! Just learned a new spell today that should do the trick.”

“Perhaps,” Seem allowed. “Only time will tell.”
The sound of gunfire was a distant echo, but they knew that still meant the battle was taking place right outside the city walls. Spargus was a fortress, and had been long before Damas ever ascended to the throne ( by force, though few dared mention that part aloud ). The city would not fall to marauders easily... but that did not mean it couldn’t fall.
Even so, Seem’s concern was less for their own safety than that of the monks that had traveled there with them the night before. There would be no way to return to the temple until the fighting ceased, and welcome as they were within the walls of Spargus, it never felt quite as safe as home.
“We monks are not the same as the other citizens of Spargus; we may be Damas’s subjects when it is convenient for him, yes, but ultimately we are outsiders and quickly forgotten when the city itself is in danger.” More bitterness crept into Seem’s voice than the ever wanted Olberic to hear, given that they spoke about his beloved king. Yet the truth was the truth, and Seem only felt so much guilt speaking such. “So forgive me if I cannot relax just yet.”
