made a bunch of yugioh characters in Wildermyth (a procedurally generated high fantasy adventure game where you can customize characters to make an adventuring party) bc it's my equivalent of making them in the sims

most funny/on brand events so far:

mai and valon met, fought ONE battle together, and immediately fell in love

they then got the longest sidequest option i have ever seen that had them fucking off from the main team for months. main storyline who

seto and amelda met via seto wandering up in a bar and being mean and snarky at amelda. they then became friends but seto still kind of acted like he hated him

rafael got a bunch of nature skill options and all the little random events about communing with it

anzu's back is nearly thrown out from carrying her team. she also says 'great work, everyone!' a lot

a mystical ghost fell in love with yugi

seto and mokuba became forever besties

funniest not on brand events

amelda is so fucking useless damage-wise. I loaded that boy with accuracy trinkets and he still missed half his shots. in a swerve into On Brand, he had a rivalry with Valon and only ever scored hits after Valon had missed them

he also kept getting transformation events which I had to have other characters drag him away from. he wanted to be a wolf or a crow or a nature spirit soso bad

rafael started a rivalry with his own daughter

yugi and mokuba also started a rivalry

after trying to get it for more appropriate characters for ages, I had to finally give up and make anzu's main method of combat poison

i love when a character has something terrible happen to them and as a result they see themself as, essentially if not literally, a ghost. and so that means they only can (and have to) do what ghosts do, ie get revenge and then cease to exist. easy as that. but then halfway through this ghost vengeance they realize hey actually i might still be a human person. with human needs. that’s incredibly inconvenient, considering how much i’ve invested in this whole ghost thing

tending to someone's injuries is literally a first date. you've got the wine (for disinfecting open wounds) the candles (for cauterizing open wounds) and the physical intimacy of touching another person's bare flesh. what more could you ask for.

amelda raised by gozabura was my first thought because i love putting my guy in situations and i'm not going to say he'd be worse than seto but i think he'd be a wee bit more unhinged (mokuba relates to him and mokuba was running a gang and poisoning people at 12, is what i'm saying. amelda serial killed his way through the big five instead of firing them, is what i'm saying)

and on seto's end it's soooo fascinating to try and picture how he'd turn out not only without gozabura, but having lost mokuba. i'm throwing him a bone here and instead of mokuba dying let's say seto's fear came true and he was adopted while seto was not (dartz, in the future: that's right! 'twas i that adopted mokuba!') and seto simply. could not find him. I feel like he'd come off as a lot quieter and have a lot more rage directed outward instead of his internally directed 'mustwinmustwinmustwin' neuroses. dartz picked him up right when he'd aged out of orphanages/the foster system and failed at locating mokuba

jounouchi and valon swapping is pretty simple - jounouchi went to rintama and stayed close with hirutani, resulting in him going to prison (honda says he was nearly sent to prison BEFORE high school!!), and valon's nun didn't die -> he didn't kill some dudes -> he stayed out of prison. valon in present day is a lot more reluctant to fight even though he still loves it, while jounouchi is just doing um. fantastic on the mental health front. instead of his focus on luck (his luck ran out once, after all, why should he trust it?) his deck is based on power/brute strength, and he's still waaay more stuck in toxic masculinity due to a lack of knowing yugi especially (until a few years too late). meanwhile valon's just volunteering at a shelter or something

I like the idea of rafael's parents still dying (sorry guy) but his younger siblings living, keeping his team dad vibes from canon. he still dealt with relative bullshit, but managed to get custody of his younger siblings once he was old enough, and consequent of them living is just way less depressed and also less willing to stab people, making him unappealing cult material

yugi meanwhile HAS to lose his grandpa i'm sorry babe. some kind of situation where yugi blamed himself for not preventing it, specifically feeling like he extended too much trust, and when atem went nuclear on the people responsible he just accepted it. yugi in doma is just... yugi without his willingness to give people second chances, or even first ones, and atem in doma is JACKED as fuck power-wise because he's not only high off the orichalcos but he's been penalty-game sacrificing people to the Puzzle nonstop. so you just have this sweet-faced boy with a brittle smile trailing a very animate shadow that sometimes looms up and grows a glowing eye. he'd have occasional doubts about dartz, but with the greatest love i think dartz could easily persuade atem that his reason for being here is bringing justice to the whole world, and lean on yugi's feelings of 'i have to support atem, that's my job' to keep him from protesting anything

One thing I really like about Yami Bakura and TKB is how you can interpret them in a lot of different ways.

Yami Bakura can be written as a TKB/Zorc smoothie that became his own person, as TKB influenced by Zorc, or as a part of Zorc with some influence from TKB.

Then you have the original TKB in Ancient Egypt, whose personality differ a bit from Yami Bakura. If you explore a post canon TKB, will he be the same as Yami Bakura or will he regain his old self without any trace of Zorc left? Or an evolution of Yami Bakura who carries both the trauma of Ancient Egypt and the scars left on his mind by being 3000 years in the ring with a dark god?

There is so much to play around with them.
