Freddie Highmore Appreciation post
So I’ve been a fan of his since I was about five or six, and I just want to share some love for him because he’s awesome.
He’s British but can do a near-perfect American accent
Freddie worked twice with Johnny Depp, who he said was his favourite actor: the first time was in ‘Finding Neverland’ and then the second was ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’
Following on from that, Depp was the one who recommended Freddie to Tim Burton for ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’, and he said he’s always been impressed by Freddie’s acting at such a young age
He was an adorable kid I mean:
I swear to God, he was that kid who was in EVERYTHING. If you look at his filmography between 2000-2010 (so when he was 8-18 years old), it’s amazing.
To add, even though he was in so many films, he still managed to ace all of his exams. He got 10 A*s in his GCSEs and 4 A* grades in his A-Levels - so he got TOP GRADES IN EVERYTHING HOLY FU-
He studied at Cambridge University
He played two roles in ‘The Spiderwick Chronicles’ - he played twins called Jared and Simon, acting opposite himself and creating two distinct characters so it was easy to tell who was who (even the voices sound a bit different!)
He speaks fluent French, Spanish and Arabic.
He’s barely aged a day - he’s 26 now and still looks like he could be a teenager tbh
A number of the films he was in had video-games, and he would reprise his roles in those video games every time: The Golden Compass, Spiderwick Chronicles (he did BOTH twins and still sounded different), Arthur and the Invisibles, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory etc.
His performance on ‘Bates Motel’ as Norman Bates was simply amazing; to this day, I think he’s the only person who’s done Anthony Perkins’ performance any justice. He also directed an episode of ‘Bates Motel’
Not only did he play Norman pre-”Psycho”, but he also had to play Norma (Norman Bates’ mother) because she’s Norman Bates’ split personality - and he was PERFECT. It’s obvious he studied Vera’s performance long and hard because the detail/little body language movements were spot on
He’s now on a show called “The Good Doctor” where he plays a surgeon with high functioning autism; I’ve seen so many people say that his performance is, for the most part, extremely accurate as to what having autism is like.
He’s close to ‘Bates Motel’ star, Vera Farmiga, and is even the godfather to her son Fynn. There was a cute video that Vera filmed a while ago of him and Fynn play-fighting with plastic swords.
Also, there’s a picture of him reading to Vera’s kids:
He’s friends with Skandar Keynes, who played Edmund in the Narnia films
His full name is Alfred Thomas Highmore though omg
Learned how to play a bit of guitar for his role in ‘August Rush’
If you watch him in any film, he’s so painfully talented
I mean, have you seen that scene in ‘Finding Neverland’ where he destroys the playhouse? They filmed that scene at the beginning of filming because the director wanted the older actors (Depp and Kate Winslet) to change their attitude towards working with him (i.e. Instead of “oh he’s a little kid” it was “holy crap he’s talented”) and treat him like an adult actor (bearing in mind he was about 12)
He wore a #TimesUp pin at an event (I think it was the Golden Globes) which I know doesn’t really count for anything but still
He has a sense of humour and is able to joke about himself (just search “Bates Motel Comic Con skit” - there’s two videos that will make your day, I promise)
Freddie is honestly such a lovely guy - not only is he handsome (imho) but he also comes across as very down-to-earth and grounded too. He’s even said multiple times that he had a rather normal childhood despite being in movies, and that could be because his mother was his agent (she’s also Daniel Radcliffe’s agent). But he’s honestly so sweet and not full of himself at all.
In short, love for Freddie Highmore!
