dnbongki:
He felt slightly embarrassed at his own words. Realizing how unrefined his speech was. His father would of have his head for speaking like that. Over a decade of studying on classical texts was practically wasted. In just a statement.
Honestly - he just wanted to go hide in his dorm and pretended this conversation  never happened.
Oh.
It was a veil he thought dumbly to himself, as he stared down at the fabric with a dumbfounded look.
Bong ki nodded, walking forward to hand her the fabric. It felt awkward though - to be asked if she could approach him. He didn’t like it all too much, it made him feel clumsy and overall a bit confused on how to act. No, he knew how to react but he just felt strange doing so.
“ Yes, it’s fine.”  The scholar encouraged - nodding his head at the woman before him. “ I have no use of your veil, don’t worry.”  Bong Ki muttered - did she come from the party ? Well obviously she did - but what was she doing so her veil ended up so far away from the event. “ How exactly did you lose it ?” The scholar mused quietly, as he gingerly placed the veil in her hand.
There was a comfort that came with the touch of the scarf back in Chun Ok’s hand. “Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.” The words kept falling from her mouth with bows accenting each word. She turned away, her back to the scholar. The motion of tying the ends behind her hair felt as natural and routine as breathing now. She secured it even better than before to make sure it’d stay in place this time around.
Her shoulders fell along with her breath in a long exhale. She could face the scholar with more ease now. “Someone became too infused with the spirit within the wine and tore it off when I was serving the drinks. From there, he threw it up and the wind brought it here, I’m assuming.
“It was my luck that you caught it when you did. If there is anything I can do for you, please instruct me to.” Though... She had her reservations that something like wine and food would catch his attention seeing how he was standing out here away from the rest.
“If I may ask...” She really shouldn’t, but she wanted to go through with it anyway. “Why is it that you are not with the other scholars tonight?”

dnkyuri:
w/@dnchunok
She wasn’t sure how long she had stood in this very spot, the night feeling especially long seeing as the sun had been setting much earlier these days. The King was having another banquet among the ministers and their personnel, the mixture of chatter, laughter, and shouting ringing among the spacious hall. Although Kyuri wasn’t technically needed at the banquet being the eldest princess’ court lady and all, she was still a concubine and was requested to be present during the festivities though the young woman wasn’t all too sure as to why. Regardless, it was the King’s order and Kyuri was expected to follow it.
However, for the past few minutes or so, Kyuri felt a strong gaze to her left. And even though the young woman was used to being stared at throughout her life, the fact that the other’s gaze was quite frequent for her to notice made Kyuri curious as to who the person was. Curiously taking a slight glance to her left side, the young sanggung’s eyes met another’s – a woman, perhaps a little older than her, was staring right back at her forcing Kyuri to immediately cast her eyes back down out of embarrassment. Well, so much for trying to be discreet. Not wanting to be rude, Kyuri lifted up her head once more and greeted the other woman properly. She might as well muster up some small talk now considering they both got caught.
“Are you enjoying yourself this evening, miss?”
Without her instruments in front of her, Chun Ok always felt so exposed in banquets like these. At least when her fingers are strumming across the silk, the melodies produced took the attention away from her. It wasn’t so much that she minded being looked at, but the fact that for every new set of eyes that befall on her, she could read the curiosity behind their stares. They wanted to know the reasoning behind the veil. Most would assume it was to hide away the excess beauty. She wished she could assure them there were other genuine beauties here to behold.
Speaking of genuine beauties, Chun Ok’s shock caused her breath to be caught in her chest when the concubine she saw before addressed her. Between their glances that bounced off one another’s, she didn’t think the noble woman would come to her like this. Her hands rolled up into little fists in her lap due to her apprehension.
She bowed deeply first before replying as they taught her to. “Yes, I am. How are you enjoying today’s festivities?” Life was short. For gisaengs, life could be even shorter if they did not learn to apologize. ( To some noblemen, just the mere existence of gisaengs warranted an apology. )
“Please pardon my lack of manners for staring at you earlier.”

I hate that I ache for events that never occurred. I hate that my fantasies take the place of intangible experiences in my mind. I want to live free from unfulfilled expectations. I want to rid myself of that particular type of pain caused only by wondering and needless anticipation.

【looking out for our own】                             + pilkyo
[ @dnxpilkyo ]
“Hyesung,” Chun Ok called from outside of his room. “It’s Chun Ok. Are you there?”
Her palm rapped against the door, rapid yet gentle, as if the wings of a hummingbird fluttered against the hanji paper between the wooden frames. The fabrics of her skirt wrinkled and gathered up within her clenched fist. She felt the silks smoothly rub against each other as she wrung them in her hand. She wanted to hit someone, to use force to return things back to order again, to have her efforts be like a scarf to veil another’s scar.
“Please, it’s important,” she pressed on. Something nagged at her that she should’ve apologized for her tone. If he hadn’t answered the door right away, perhaps he had his reason. It was not her place to urge him like this, but her frustrations shrouded her better judgment. ( As always. ) With her vision so clouded, “her place” blended in with the rest of darkness around. Her place did not include demanding immediate attention, nor telling someone else’s business, but they were a troupe. A kisaeng could only trust her fellow workers. Only others within this rank and profession could understand the lifestyle that called for the constant display of smiles in lieu of one’s loneliness and bitterness. They had to look after one another... Right?
The previous headmistress she trained under used to tell her time and time again. Only when you’re about to bite down on your own pain and focus on your goal can you become a true courtesan. The fabric in her hand molded into a wadded shape and kept the form even after her fist opened back up in tandem with a slow, blooming inhalation. Her hand stiffly flattened out against her skirt and smoothed out the wrinkles. She clasped her hands together before her and stood there with her head bowed. All she could do for the time being was wait, and so she did.

His attention laid on her and she wanted to turn the other cheek to deflect it. She had time. She could very well go through with her back up plan to tear off a piece of cloth off her skirt and use that instead. That would’ve been a rational and safe decision before she reached this point. Although the words “rational” and “safe” could hardly describe Chun Ok accurately.
--Did he just call it a thing?
She kept her hand against her cheek as she bowed her head low. Her palm slid over a touch to cover her smile. At least this way she could hide her amused expression. She shook her head to rid herself of this silliness. She cleared her throat softly.
“Yes, sir. That is my veil. I have been looking for it. I am very grateful that you have found it.”
Not daring to lift her head, she simply lifted her gaze. Her eyes only traveled high enough to catch the veil in her sight. There was no need to cast her vision towards the high heavens when such earthly materials were enough. There were much less risks associated if she just knew her place.
He seemed to be offering her veil back to her though. She inched forward with hesitant steps, but ultimately stopped before progressing much farther. “May I please approach and retrieve it, sir?” She hoped he would agree. He could barely name it let alone find a use for it., but men were unpredictable creatures. Either way, she tried to keep a level head.

The sound of obnoxious laughter of his fellow students were suffocating - the event the school held for the sons of the yangban class was somewhere Bong Ki didn’t want to be. It reeked of faux happiness as his fellow classmates flirted and drank their worries away. Though the young man did not blame them, to throw away their responsibilities for a few hours was something he couldn’t be annoyed by. Of course  - Bong Ki felt there was other ways to let off their frustration - being immoral with gisaengs as they sang and dance was something he wasn’t too fond off.
He needed air. Free from the sunbaes breathing down his back as they urged him to drink to his content. To see him become a fool to the alcohol. So as the party died down, the young student slipped away. Finding comfort in the somewhat cold numbness of the fall air.
Bong Ki didn’t expect though, as he made his rounds around the area for a gust of wind blew, a piece of silk flowing before him, the young man reflexly grabbed a hold of the fabric. Curious as he glanced around him, where had it exactly come from ? His fingers curling around the embroidery.
His eyes flashing at the sound of footsteps, the young student glanced towards the source of the noise, glancing down at the veil in his hand before speaking as he walked towards the female.
“ Is this..” Bong Ki paused, feeling clumsy as he held out the veil. “ Is this your ..thing ?”

Please, please, please... Please be near.
One hand firmly pressed against her face while the other gathered up her skirts by the handful. A time where she last felt the sunlight and wind caress her face in its entirety could hardly be recalled with vivacity. She had no heart to relish in their touches today. It still felt too forbidden. Too taboo. She had to get her veil back. No one could catch her in this exposed state. Just a singular glance was more than enough to encourage the flow of gossip to circulate. Just the air of such idle talk would tarnish the reputation of the gisaeng house and bring her own career to rust.
She ran towards the direction she last saw her face veil being courted off by a strong breeze. A pain cinched around her heart when the veil disappeared from her line of vision over a wall. This was not the gyobang. This was not a place she should be traveling about un-escorted in this manner. If caught without her veil, she might lose just a job, but if caught wandering around like this? She might have to forfeit her life.
Quick. She had to be quick on top of stealthy. Worse comes to worst, she could just tear off an inner skirt and tie it around her face. She rounded the corner and found a figure standing there. A rush of air flowed straight into her lungs in a sharp gasp, but she held it all in her chest as to not make a single sound. Light steps backward followed one after another until the figure turned just enough for her to see what was in his hands.
The embroidery work on it was unmistakable. She couldn’t run up to him and take it back from him as the impulse within her told her to do. Since he laid his hands on it, it was as good as his. She stood there frozen, not knowing the next step in the sequence of how to properly handle the situation.
