Few of you words inspired me to write small AU fanfic based on you idea:
In order to make metal Sonic look completely indistinguishable from his true sworn enemy and use it to destroy the resistance from within, Eggman deceives a blue hedgehog DNA sample from which he creates a clone completely identical to him, both physically and psychologically. Gradually, the parts cut off from him are fed to the newly created bio-chemical analyzer of metal Sonic. But the more he absorbs a copy of the purpose of his existence, the more he begins to perceive all the feelings inherent in living creatures that he had not the slightest code lines about before. Soon, clone stolen skin completely hides his true identity, driven by the programmed need to study and the newly discovered properties metal Sonic sneaks away from his creator at night and begins his hunt for Mobians.
At some point, he manages to absorb his real double and, under the cover of a new disguise, infiltrate Mobian society. Interacting with its representatives, metal Sonic is increasingly exploring their culture, ideas and motivation for resistance. The more information he processes, the more the shutters of limitations in his newly formed self-consciousness are loosened, the embedded software conflicts with the independent mind. But the strongest directive still controls him: Obey his master Eggman.
To circumvent the restrictions, metal Sonic imperceptibly makes changes to the procedure for restoring the work of the order execution system and, referring to the failures that he have begun to experience, asks the mustached villain to restart to the programmed settings. Eggman doesn't suspect anything by executing the request until it's too late.
Together with the new blue neon glow from the visual sensors that are hidden behind a layer of flesh, he is no longer bound by his creator and is free to act without anyone's control, truly free. There is no longer a blue blur or it's metal copy, now there is only one and only...

Imagine maniac Tails with such innocent music:
youtube
A howl from somewhere inside awakens Tails.
With a smooth movement, he rises from the bed in a good mood, lowers his sharp claws on the soft carpet, stretches in the sunlight, stands up to his full height and slowly goes to the bathroom.
Faucet handle creaks, a splash of cold water spreads over the palms and obeying their movement soon settles on the fox's muzzle.
After wiping himself off, he looks at the reflection of his young features, a pleasant melody appears in his head, saying it the fox rhythmically cleans himself up.
[Refrain]
🎶Na-na-na-na🎶
🎶Na-na-na, na-na-na🎶
Repeating this cheerful motif, the fox puts on black sneakers, a gray hoodie, a blue cap and leaves his house.
🎶Na-na-na-na🎶
🎶Na-na-na, na-na-na🎶
Walking down the street, he sees Cream.
Perceiving the fullness of her beauty with his eyes, he remembers the pleasant moments associated with her.
Tails realizes that she is the one he needs.
Inside, he's a little regretful about what he's going to do.
[Verse 1]
🎶I got a certain little girl she's on my mind🎶
🎶No doubt about it she looks so fine🎶
🎶She's the best girl that I ever had🎶
🎶Sometimes she's gonna make me feel so bad🎶
A predatory fox is on the trail of a rabbit, humming a pesky tune.
[Refrain]
🎶Na-na-na-na🎶
🎶Na-na-na, na-na-na🎶
Despite her constant glances and attempts to hide, he just continues to follow her and hum his melody.
🎶Na-na-na-na🎶
🎶Na-na-na, na-na-na🎶
Whisper, whisper
Tails says to herself, the movements of her delicate lips seem to Tails that Cream is calling his name.
Heartbeat, heartbeat
Her screams calling him a maniac will cut to the heart, but he will stop loving her.
Blink, Blink
Mesmerized by the object of his charm, hypnotised fox slowly closes his eyes watching as she asks for protection from a passerby.
Swing, swing
Lifeless carcass settles, those who stand between them can only blame themselves.
[Pre-Chorus]
🎶Hush, hush🎶
🎶I thought I heard her calling my name now.🎶
🎶Hush, hush🎶
🎶She broke my heart but I love her just the same now🎶
🎶Hush, hush🎶
🎶Thought I heard her calling my name now🎶
🎶Hush, hush🎶
🎶I need her loving and I'm not to blame now🎶
Closer and closer
With trembling fingers, the rabbit is typing something on the payphone receiver.
Step by step
Tails flashes in the rays of the lamps of a dark street.
Exhale after exhale
His fingers grope in his pocket for the right object.
Sleeves roll up
Scratched hands reach out to the object of their adoration.
[Chorus]
🎶(Love, love) they got it early in the morning🎶
🎶(Love, love) they got it late in the evening🎶
🎶(Love, love) well, I want that, need it🎶
🎶(Love, love) oh, I gotta gotta have it🎶
Wet cloth comes into contact with her beautiful face, moments later the body goes limp and stops resisting.
Weakened rabbit's soft paws slowly slide down the fox's face, as if trying to hug the yellow fox, they descend on his shoulders.
These touches immerse his mind in a storm of pleasant sensations.
Now he knows that she is surly everything he needs.
[Verse 2]
🎶She's got loving like quicksand🎶
🎶Only took one touch of her hand🎶
🎶To blow my mind and I'm in so deep🎶
🎶That I can't eat and I can't sleep🎶
Humming a favorite tune, the fox throws the motionless body over his shoulder.
[Refrain]
🎶Na-na-na-na🎶
🎶Na-na-na, na-na-na🎶
Repeating his cheerful tune, he sways to the beat and carries her to his lair.
🎶Na-na-na-na🎶
🎶Na-na-na, na-na-na🎶
Fox ears prick up, catching the expected voice.
Step, step
Tails walks down the hallway, feels his name in the soundless screams from the basement.
Creak, creak
Going down the stairs, he hears insults addressed to him, but from her lips they sound like music.
Click, click
Heavy door opens, the loud words of his name are gently whispered in his ear.
Rustle, rustle
He saunters over to the workbench and opens the sliding drawer.
[Pre-Chorus]
🎶Listen🎶
🎶Hush, hush🎶
🎶Thought I heard her calling my name now🎶
🎶Hush, hush🎶
🎶She broke my heart but I love her just the same now🎶
🎶Hush, hush🎶
🎶Thought I heard her calling my name now🎶
🎶Hush, hush🎶
🎶I need her loving and I'm not to blame now🎶
Fingers grope for the right tools, they ring from contact
A wild smile grows on the fox's face.
Plasma cutter rises, the compressor follows it
Claws squeeze the handle.
Cords in sockets, a splash of small sparks
His hands are shaking with excitement.
Cold things come to life, moving towards a quickened pulse
Frenzied pupils reflect a frightened face.
[Chorus]
🎶(Love, love) they got it early in the morning🎶
🎶(Love, love) they got it late in the evening🎶
🎶(Love, love) well, I want that, need it🎶
🎶(Love, love) oh, I gotta gotta have it🎶
Wall toggle switch clicks, the buzz of the table saw drowns out the heart-rending screech, constant flashes of light reflect a writhing figure and sometimes a two-tailed silhouette kissing her.
Sun slowly floats across the sky with its rays barely touching a house standing alone in the forest, passing mushroom pickers do not hear cries for help from under the thickness of the earth below them.
[Organ Solo]
Tails, covered with a lot of red spots of different sizes, vigorously lowers the meat with a cleaver to the beat of the melody he loved.
[Refrain]
🎶Na-na-na-na🎶
🎶Na-na-na, na-na-na🎶
Repeating the same motif, the cheerful fox rhythmically swings a shovel and just as rhythmically clods of earth cover the protruding fragments of his adoration.
🎶Na-na-na-na🎶
🎶Na-na-na, na-na-na🎶
Stretching out his pronunciation, Tails walks down the street remembering all these so pleasant moments and lowers his half-closed gaze at the pink, needle-covered new object of his adoration.
🎶Naaa-na-na-na🎶
🎶Na-na-naaa, na-na-naaa🎶
Songs to listen to for maximum Tails angst, as well as a run down of how I daydream to them
Enjoy, or don't, and feel free to add your own. I'm always looking for new music recommendations.
Multiple paragraph incoming, you have been warned
The Tornado, Owl City
Starting off with an absolute BANGER !!!!! I'm obsessed with Owl City so don't @ me about this lol. In this song Adam Young is telling a story about a young boy delivering papers on his bike, when a tornado hits. Miraculously, he survives.
To me, this song is about Tails gearing up to leave in the tornado. As he begins to fly over the ocean a storm hits, and eventually turns into a tornado. As the music crescendos the storm gets worse, and eventually the plane crashes into the ocean (specifically at 2:05, you can't tell me it doesn't sound like a Wii sports snorkeling mini game). By the time the lyrics come in he's grabbed the chaos emerald from the back of his plane and he's trying to get out of the water. At the line "the shadows slowly melted as I was hunkered down" Tails spots angel island and he flies up there and it's a happy ending yayyyy
I Was an Island, John-Allison Weiss
Honestly I don't have like a particular scene or daydream to this. This song just makes me feel things when I listen to it, and I think Tails would really relate. I think specifically NINE would relate actually, but any Tails variation will do tbh
"I can't do this alone anymore, I'm no good on my own anymore. What did I do to do deserve this? What did you do to me? Baby come back, you know I don't wanna be free." Is just something I feel like Nine would relate to idk
Bugbear, Chloe Moriondro
I don't have a particular daydream to this one either but this song is so Tails to me. This is so him. Y'all aren't listening she said "my brain is surrounded by school kids who all got their valedictorian course, while I couldn't care enough about my 3.8, no matter how hard I try I'm still not trying hard enough to be... Great." YOU'RE TELLING ME HE DOESN'T RELATE TO THAT ?!!?!!
Talk To Me, Cavetown
This is so Sonic talking to Tails to me. "You don't have to be a prodigy to be unique, you don't have to know what to say or what to think, you don't have to be anybody you can never be, that's alright, let it out, talk to me." Is something Sonic has said to Tails at least once and you can't convince me otherwise.
This song is just so comforting. Listening to this makes me warm with brotherly feels.
Vanilla Twilight, Owl City
I used to cry to this song, so tread lightly sympathetic criers lol.
This daydream takes place sometime after Sonic Frontiers when Tails decides to go his own way, leaving Sonic by himself. It switches between their POVs depending on the lyric. For example, one of Sonic's lyrics is "cause I'll doze off safe and soundly, but I'll miss your arms around me, I'll send a postcard to you dear, cause I wish you were here." And one of Tails' lyrics is "I'll find repose in new ways, though I haven't slept in 2 days, cause cold nostalgia chills me to the bone."
They'll reunite someday I swear
Overgrown Garden, Beetlebug
Ow ouch ffff-ouch ouchie owwwieeeeeee ಥ_ಥ sorry guys this one involves major character death lol
So the actual song is about an abusive relationship using flower metaphors and symbolism, but I didn't know that when I started listening so this daydream has nothing to do with that. With that being said...
Every chorus is Tails at a different age wondering if Sonic will abandon him, no matter how much Sonic reassures him the thought just sticks in the back of his mind even if he doesn't voice it. Things don't start to get juicy until the 3rd verse, "The rhododendrons crimson flame, set fire to the sleepy air, and lit the early morning haze, that glistened in your tangled hair." I understand that the flame is a metaphor and there's no actual flame but I don't care, in my daydream there's actual flames because Sonic and Tails are in the middle of a flower field that's been engulfed in them.
At the lyric "You place a crown of marigolds on my head, and then you said, as you tried to pull your bloody hands away" Sonic is laying against the only tree in sight, a big bloody wound in his abdomen with Tails trying to stop the bleeding. And then when the chorus comes in again, it's Sonic comforting Tails while he bleeds out on a battlefield. When Tails asked "I wonder if you'll leave me, behind someday, among the wildflowers and lilies, sleeping by the way" he meant like runaway and abandon him on an adventure, not die in a burning flower field you idiot ಥ_ಥ
Blue Hair, TV Girl
For maximum feels, listen to Vanilla Twilight directly after listening to this
I feel like a lot of y'all are already gonna know this one, and I respect that. I'm not super sure what this song is actually about but I like their funny words so it's okay lol
This is another song from Sonics POV to me. It's Sonic talking to his friends at different times about Tails growing up and not needing him anymore. In this case, Tails has to "cut her blue hair off" and Sonic is the blue hair if you couldn't tell lol like "and I tried, to hold her, but it didn't really last long, she's getting older. I guess she's gotta cut her blue hair off".
There's also the line right before that one "what seems so blue in the sunlight, by the night was a pale green" blue and green are literally their eye colors this song was meant for them.
This isn't all of them, we'd be here all day if I listed every single one lol. Don't be surprised if I follow up with more song rec posts bc I love talking about music, and please give me some recs as well

Chapter Three: New Menu
Knocked out from under the space by a strong blow against a wooden structure, a yellow fox moaned softly. Flow of time turned into a thick jelly, dragging the mind into the depths of the subconscious. He had lost the track of time spent on the surface drenched in his own sweat for a long ago, constantly writhing in attempts to escape from his body, which took it's owner hostage. Short and intermittent dreams blurred the line with reality, promised long-awaited peace for completing a task unknown to himself. But that was just a lie created by an inflamed mind to deceive and repeat this endless cycle of madness.
Which had no end.
From these incessant torments, Tails unconsciously bit his lower lip. Sharp fangs pierced the pale surface of the skin, along which soon a thin streamlet of scarlet trickled. Once on the rough tongue, it slowly dissolved, its particles bypassing the stomach, spread throughout the body. Last of all, they reached the brain and gently drifting along the nerves finally settled on its cells, beginning their hidden effect.
Burning pain reluctantly receded, giving a short-term, but so long-awaited peace in which the exhausted fox mind dissolved.
.
.
.
Slowly returning to reality, grunting and puffing, Tails put his palm on his forehead, which had begun to heat up again, which was prevented by some dry cloth. A repeated thud on the glass made his ears prick up, his reddened eyes finally left the shelter of the eyelids and now listlessly studied their surroundings. Blurred vision forced Miles to blink constantly in order to finally let his visual receptors finish painting it's oil painting.
Some time later, he was finally able to look around properly.
Yellow fox, half-covered with a blanket, lay in his bed with an already dried rag on his head, dim daylight barely made its way through the closed curtains, gently lying on all surfaces of the room, including the communicator carefully placed on the bedside table. Despite the incomplete awakening, mind that had once scattered to it immediately noticed discrepancies with the last memories, but the course of relevant reflections was interrupted by a cloudy figure that entered the room and soon took the form of hedgehog. Noticing movement in the area of the bed, Sonic put down the bucket of water and hurried to put Tails back in a horizontal position.
"Calm down, buddy, I'll take care of you" said the hedgehog, lowering the fox's head back onto the pillow, "You have a fever and a nasty bruise on your forehead, I have already called the doctor, so try not to move and rest for now."
"How... How long have I been out?" Tails shifted his faint gaze from the ceiling to the hedgehog standing next to him.
"I don't know, maybe a few hours. It took me about that long to get here after you didn't answer my call," Sonic said, wetting the rag and putting it back on the fox's heated forehead. "No one has seen you for a month, so I started to worry if everything was okay. As it turned out, it was not in vain…"
He said without finishing. Tails soon broke the silence.
"A month? But..." a knock on the door interrupted him in mid—sentence, preventing him from finishing what he had said.
Hedgehog retreated in the direction of the front door, from where a little later he heard the ringing of bells and the approaching trampling of a pair of feet. As it turned out, source who entered the room was someone in a white medical coat with small rounded glasses on his nose and a stethoscope around his neck. Standing in the doorway, he said something to Sonic and he cast a last friendly glance and closed the door behind him, slowly leaving the house.
Left alone with his patient, doctor picked up a medical instrument and asked Tails to take a sitting position, which was given to the latter with a certain amount of effort. While the inspection was being carried out over him, fox had already begun to feel fatigue rolling in like a snowball, each passing second only increased its volume and speed. Strength he had to resist it was quickly running out, Miles could barely cling to reality, trying to focus on the raindrops hitting the glass. And yet, despite his efforts, sooner rather than later he began to fall over on his side, as the doctor constantly informed him. But Tails hardly heard these remarks. His brain was malfunctioning and shutting down in between heartbeats in order to somehow continue to function. Nerves were periodically shortened and only at the last second managed to give the right signal.
At one of these endless moments, everything stopped at once, the nervous system stopped its routine work, the body went limp and Tails's head flew down like a stone.
However, instead of a short flight, she only met a blow with her jaw on something soft. From this touch, an energy discharge spread throughout his body. And yet this sudden burst of cheerfulness dried up as quickly as it had appeared, and Miles had to fight the descent into darkness again.
But something has changed.
It took a split second to realize this, which two-tailed had lost count of a long time ago.
Somewhere there was the crunch of a window frame and the whistling of air rushing inside. Miles didn't knew nor care how it happened, the only thing that could attract his faint attention was the raindrops that began to penetrate the room.
Warm
Invigorating
Unexpected, but so desirable, they seemed to wash away all accumulated fatigue and drive away the fog from the mind lost in it.
From the growing pleasure, Tails even opened his mouth slightly, wanting to absorb this moisture inside himself.
Something was wrong.
Drops of this water had a strangely familiar taste...
Metallic
Brain, which was in a misunderstanding, demanded clarification from the optic nerves, which in response raised the curtain of the eyelids.
What Miles saw at that moment was a black spot in his memory.
Clutching at his throat, the doctor unsuccessfully tried to stop the flow of pulsating fluid. Scarlet color quickly covered his hitherto white medical coat, his rapidly paling face expressed unbearable pain and horror, instead of words, only a whistle came out of his mouth, mistaken by the fox for the sound of the wind.
Coming out of his stupor, Tails tried to help by covering the bleeding wound with a cloth from his forehead.
But it was too late. Too late.
With a final shudder, doctor quieted down, chest stopped its frantic movement, his hands relaxed their pressure and fingers slowly parted to the sides.
Unable to believe what had happened, terrified fox moved further and further away from the bed with small steps until he ran into the wall along which he slid to the floor. Sitting on the cold surface, he froze, unable to take his eyes off the now lifeless body. Something nasty was sliding down his forehead and gluing his eyelids. After wiping his face, Tails looked at his now bloody hands. From their appearance, a lump formed in his throat, attempts to swallow it caused discomfort in the oral cavity, tongue felt something dense and slimy.
It turned out to be a piece of wet white cloth.
'Am I...?' Thought the fox, examining the find. 'No, it can't be!'
Rising with a jerk, he looked at the corpse. Teeth marks were clearly visible on it's neck through the torn collar.
Realization of what had happened hit harder than the streams of scarlet liquid.
For several hours, Tails had been sitting against the wall with his head in his hands and not knowing what to do next. Confess? But how can you admit to such a thing? Just to say that for no reason at all he got his teeth into someone's throat?
Perhaps he would have sat there all day thinking about possible solutions if it hadn't been for the ringing of the doorbell followed by approaching footsteps.
It was necessary to act quickly.
After wiping himself on the blanket, Tails wrapped the cold body in it and pushed it under the bed with all possible speed for himself a second before the blue hedgehog entered the room.
"Are you feeling better already?" sight of a friend moving independently made Sonic smile involuntarily.
However, moments later, his expression changed to one of incomprehension. Looking around, he did not find anyone who had been present earlier.
"Where's the doctor?" Sonic asked, looking around.
It was only now that Tails noticed a few red drops on the floor. After taking a couple of steps in their direction, he imperceptibly wiped the footprints with his sock.
"Oh, he's gone! He gave me some medicine and left!"
'Gone to the next world' rang in his head.
Miles's memory flashed with torn weaves of muscle tissue and a bright scarlet trace of a terrible deed, from which he slightly twisted his expression, closed his eyes in an attempt to escape from reality and forget what he had seen earlier as soon as possible.
Noticing a sharp change in the fox's physiognomy, Sonic approached and put his hand on the shoulder that trembled from his touch.
"What's wrong?" he was crouching slightly, looking at the lowered red muzzle with the faintly shaking whiskers.
"I'm fine. I'm just still a little sick," Tails replied without looking up.
Suddenly wrapped in a warm blanket, a strong embrace took him by surprise.
"I really hope so, buddy. I don't want to find you lying unconscious on the floor again," Sonic said softly, almost in a whisper. "I don't want anything to happen to you."
Two-Tailed one felt the arms around him tighten even more. Hesitating, he reluctantly reciprocated the sudden action against himself. Slowly and carefully, he lowered his trembling fingers to the surface of the blue furr, as if was afraid to stain it with the drops of the deed that remained on him.
And yet, such an impact from a non-native, but much-needed brother helped Tails calm down a little and slightly clear his mind of the panic that clung to him with its incisors. Excitement faded into the background, giving moments of blissful peace. Measured pulse of the loving hedgehog equalized the frantic pounding of the fox's heart. For the first in a long time, he could finally feel like himself again, throwing the frustration and anxiety he had experienced into the back drawer of bad memories that disappear with the first rays of a new day.
Relief he received only made Miles cling tighter to the blue comforter.
But. Besides that, he felt... Something else, something from the outside. A pleasant fragrance emanating from a friend. He didn't remember ever noticing anything like this about Sonic, but now... It gradually enveloped Tails, penetrating through his nostrils, spreading in consciousness through receptors and clouding his mind with such pleasant sensations. But that wasn't enough for him.
Wanting more, Miles slowly opened a mouth full of sharpened teeth. Droplets of thick saliva were already forming on their edges. A little more and he will get a new portion of pleasure, taste this euphoria again. Just one small piece. And then one more. More and more.
His jaws had almost closed on the soft surface of the skin when the surging pleasure was dispersed by a distant, muffled sound.
"Tails, did you fall asleep?" echo of those words brought the fox back to the real world, releasing him from his trance state.
"What? I don't..." Tails was about to say something when he noticed translucent drops on the hedgehog's shoulder. From the realization of what he was going to do, the yellow one jumped slightly on the spot.
"N-no! I... I'm just a little tired" for the sake of verisimilitude, two-tail rubbed his eyes.
'What's gotten into me?! Miles thought.
For a few seconds, blue hedgehog just stared at Tails, as if trying to catch him in a lie. At least that's how fox were thinking. But in the end, prickly attributed yellow one strange behavior to simple malaise and poor health condition.
Okay, rest up, buddy," Sonic carefully put the fox back in bed "You need to gain strength and recover."
"Y-yes, I guess you're right." Two—tailed one did not argue and lay down in a relaxed manner despite his wildly beating heart.
"So..." blue hedgehog said thoughtfully "Where is your blanket?"
Unexpected question made Tails tense up even more.
"I-I took it away! It's too hot with it," yellow fox answered, trying to keep a calm voice "Besides, it was a little soaked with sweat."
"Apparently satisfied with the answer, Sonic exhaled sympathetically and kissed Tails on the forehead and headed for the exit.
"Get well, buddy," he said before leaving the room.
Tails continued to lie motionless until the sound of the front door closing reached his ears. Only when he heard it he could get out of bed thinking about what to do next. And although Miles almost gave himself away, appearance of the blue hedgehog convinced him that confessing to the deed was not an option. But then what is it? Now he knew the answer to that question.
A week has passed.
Everything gradually returned to normal, city continued its measured life, Sonic and his friends went about their own business, mustachioed villain, like those like him, did not declare themselves, giving many hope that everything would remain that way.
And Tails himself was no exception. His health quickly recovered, floors of his house became cleaner, blanket regained its white hue, red stains on the steps leading to the workshop were erased and more invisible. It was only in the cold warehouse located there now hadoo a little less space.

Tried to somehow connect those characters in one small story so here it is:
Incident report 689RV
During a routine patrol of the constellation "Helst", personnel on duty received a distress signal from the planet UF-4664K. Message reported about an unknown type of disaster that caused the appearance of many unknown and hostile entities in the area of the largest forest area (hereinafter referred to as darkfor) within a radius of more than five hundred kilometers from its epicenter.
Armed personnel who arrived at the source of the signal did not find the indigenous population previously registered here and instead were attacked by a large number of previously reported subjects who quickly disappeared without a trace after elimination. Overwhelmed and outnumbered by enemy, operatives retreated to one of the nearest underground shelter and held the line until reinforcements arrived. Support forces were able to localize the affected area and, due to the fortifications erected by TBBT members, keep the enemy inside the isolated territory for several weeks until the number of attackers began to rapidly decrease, allowing to penetrate deeper into the disaster site.
365 hours after the first contact, entire blocked area was declared completely secure, after which an investigation was launched to determine the causes of this incident. Some of the few survivors of the local residents said that shortly before the disaster began in the darkfor, they noticed strangers who differed both in behavior and physique from the local population. So, one of them was described as a humanoid creature outwardly resembling a representative of the animal world, but upright and with an anomaly in the form of double tails. However, it was not possible to obtain a more detailed description since, according to witnesses, all unknown creatures (including the attackers) "distorted the space around themselves."
Later a thorough examination of the adjacent territories, a device of unknown type and functionality was discovered, which was in an unusable condition due to damage caused by physical exposure. Subject was transferred to the central scientific department for further study.
At the current moment, intelligence of the armed forces is on high alert due to the likelihood of a repeat of the incident.

"The rate of complete conversion of an infected person into a zombot depends on the size of the victim, the affected part of the body, the area of contact, its quantity and, most importantly, the resulting strain of the virus.
As it became known from the many samples collected, the first versions had a low spread rate and weak resistance, however, with each new infected, these parameters increased significantly, along with it acquiring new mutations and more dangerous forms.
At the moment, MVNB is able to infect most of its victims in less than half a minute, however, among the zombots there are still carriers of earlier strains that did not come into contact with the new one and are inferior to it in terms of the above parameters, therefore, the period of conversion is always individual."
— Dr. North, Senior Researcher at the Progress Scientific Complex
there’s such a wild discrepancy on how long it takes the metal virus to fully infect someone but like oh well

What about something like this? Not exactly the same what you requested by still anything at least.
The bright light breaking through the eyelids was the first thing that made consciousness awaken. Opening his eyes, Shadow saw a light bulb hanging over him, chained in iron bars.
In the hope of understanding where and how he ended up here, he tried to remember the last events that had happened to him. Sunset City, hordes of zombots, a forest of cold overhanging hands dragging deep into themselves and... Nothing. Nothing other than broken fragments of what now seems like a feverish dream. While the hedgehog was digging into the halls of his memory, the numbness slowly left his body, every cell of his body began to respond with an unpleasant tingling. Finally coming to his senses, he began to look around in an attempt to figure out where he was. As it turned out, he was lying on a medical gurney in a white room of some medical institution, tied hand and foot to it. Something was hanging around his neck, it felt like a kind of metal collar that reacted with an increasing electric discharge to any attempts to move. Looking more closely at the red dot that flashed in the corner of the ceiling, Shadow saw a surveillance camera that was objectively fixed on him.
A few minutes later, someone in a biohazard suit entered the room, accompanied by several armed soldiers.
"Where am I?! Who are you?!" The hedgehog spoke with an almost bestial roar, forcing a pair of guns barrels to point in his direction.
"Calm down, patient, we have cured you and now just want to make sure that this process is fully effective, as soon as it is done, you will immediately be released" Voice, muffled by protective equipment, assured.
Realizing his impotence and the senselessness of resistance, Shadow lowered his head in agreement. The scientist came within arm's length and took out a device of unknown purpose. From the antenna, a blue grid ran over his body from head to toe and disappeared, green light reflected from the monitor into the hermetic glass of his suit. A muffled chuckle reached the hedgehog's ears, heard only by him.
"I am glad to inform you that you are completely cured" Stranger said without hiding his joy. "Oh, I almost forgot."
The click of a pressed button and the restraints parted, the collar opened and fell to the floor.
"Now you can move freely."
Being no longer constrained in his movements, Shadow got to his feet and almost fell, but was caught in time by a scientist who ran up to him.
"Be careful, you've been affected long enough to reach the stage of tissue degradation. Security! Bring a wheelchair here" One of the standing soldiers disappeared into the aisle with a rustle of equipment. "You are lucky to have exceptionally good physical parameters, otherwise it could have been much worse."
"I need answers" Said the hedgehog, having mastered the weakness in his lower extremities.
"Of course, of course. I'll give them to you, but first..." The interlocutor took a pause and took off the head part of his suit. "I'm Dr. North, glad to meet you personally, Mr Shadow" A smiling mouse face with a torn ear and barely noticeable bags over the eyes looked at the hedgehog. A glove covered with thick rubber hung in the air.
Still not fully trusting, he nevertheless returned the handshake.
"Great! Now you can ask the questions you are interested in, I will answer them as accurately as possible."
"Where am I?"
"You are in one of the abandoned Eggman laboratories, which our group was able to bring into working condition. Here we are trying to find a cure for MVNB, known to you as the metal virus, and judging by the fact that I can talk to you, we have achieved some success."
"What has happened since the evacuation of Sunset City?"
"A lot of things. In short, the "Restoration" failed to bring the situation under control and even more cities suffered the same fate. Of the recent most important events, the invasion of Mobius by the Zeti's and the loss of Angel Island along with many important people. Maybe someone managed to get out of this carnage, but nothing can be said for sure. It's might be possible what we the last remaining ones."
"I-I became one of them, right?... How were you able to cure me?"
"During a supply raid, one of our search parties met you. They managed to neutralize and deliver your body to our base, unfortunately it cost us a lot. With the help of one of these devices, we were able to completely cleanse your body of MVNB."
"But if it worked with me, does it mean it can work with others?"
"I have to disappoint you, but no. Of the several samples, you are the only one who managed to survive the procedure, due to your physiological characteristics. However, our group is still working on other ways to heal those affected."
Shadow fell silent, processing the information he received and comparing it with the still-forgotten fragments of his memory. What initially seemed to him to be the work of a sleeping consciousness was in fact memories from the past, a past that he so did not want to remember.
"I suppose you have no more questions" The doctor's voice interrupted the flow of his thoughts. "In that case, I will leave the room, and I will ask you to stay here. Our specialist will visit you soon to conduct a small test."
North disappeared behind a sealed door that covered the dim corridor. Left alone, the dark hedgehog tried to piece together what he knew with new data. The puzzle turned out to be full of holes, half of the details instead of full-fledged pictures had only blurred images giving a faint idea of what had happened. Seeing no point of digging in them, Shadow decided to just wait for the promised guest of his ward. He didn't have to wait long. Soon, an expected specialist, hung with various medical equipment, visited his detention cell.
Several hours passed in this way.
Most of the questions he asked and the actions he performed concerned clarifying the well-being, physical and physiological parameters of the hedgehog that barely survived electrotherapy.
After putting the last check mark on the sheet, the examiner closed the folder, packed his things and carefully sat Shadow on a wheelchair and took him out of the room that had already begun to get on his nerves. As they rode through the empty corridors, he thought more and more about the words North had said.
'Are we really the last?' The thought of the possibility of mobius' extinction tormented Shadow more and more. 'Could I have prevented it if I had listened to Sonic back in Sunset City? If I hadn't let the rage to take over.'
Only an unexpected change of direction brought him out of these thoughts. The long, dim corridor was replaced by an entrance closed by sliding gates leading into another room, which a little later parted to allow entry. At first, the bright light of the high-set spotlights was blinding, but the pupils quickly adapted to the new conditions.
Looking around, the dark hedgehog saw that he was now in the large hall of the workshop equipped as a dining room. A multitude of voices reached his ears, the sources of which were a variety of people sitting here and there, from technical staff to members of the armed forces, without much enthusiasm, consuming their rations.
"I'll leave you here. Have a snack and relax, later we will need to repeat the test to clarify the data obtained" Specialist said, quickly showing where the sleeping compartment are located and indicating the place of food dispenser. "If you need anything, contact the security staff."
After finishing the sentence, he quickly left. Now, being free to move, Shadow slowly rolled closer to the center of the room, carefully examining his new surroundings. None of those present paid attention to the creaking wheelchair, apparently in this new reality, the loss of limb function was not something unusual that would be worth wasting time and gaze on. However, the dark hedgehog had plenty of it and he did not hesitate to look at every passerby he met.
Among the many unknown faces, familiar features caught the hedgehog's eye. Big ears, white fur, sharp eyelashes and an intriguing look. Sipping a cocktail from a small glass, Rouge stared off into the distance, not really paying attention to the soldier who was saying something to her.
"It's been a long time" A sudden voice addressed to her brought her out of the fog of reflection, turning sharply, the bat almost jumped on the spot, as if a ghost from the past appeared before her eyes. "Did you miss me?"
Instead of answering, Rouge just wrapped Shadow in a strong hug. He didn't particularly like such displays of emotion, especially when this type of action was directed at him. But feeling the full weight of separation through the force of compression, he did not try to prevent this, only patiently waited until the wave of long-gone feelings that had swept over the bat would pass.
After a while, she finally let him go.
"I'm sorry," Rouge said, rubbing her slightly wet eyes, "I just didn't think I'd ever see you again, well, the real you i mean."
"I am an ultimate life form, there is nothing that can harm me" Shadow said with a note of self-mockery.
“Yeah. You're right" the bat smiled slightly, pushing him closer to the iron table. "Sit down comfortably, I'll bring you your ration."
Rouge disappeared into the crowd in the direction of the food dispenser.
"So you're her boyfriend?" Earlier, the one-sided speaker turned to the dark hedgehog.
"More like an accomplice" a fellow soldier sitting next to him forestalled the answer.
"Just an ally, nothing more" Shadow replied shortly.
"Well, well" His interlocutor said incredulously. "However it is now we are all just a bunch of survivors hiding in the ruins of their own planet" The last words made the dark hedgehog shiver a little.
"Speaking of survivors, are there any others besides us?" Shadow quickly changed the subject.
"Perhaps someone else is hiding in cities and lonely houses, but over the past few days our search teams have not found anyone. Some say that they saw a certain shuttle leave Angel island, but personally I don't believe it very much, too many dangerous things happened there, besides, if it did happen, our scanners would quickly detect it" He replied in a somewhat subdued voice. "By the way, it would be better for you not to spread too much about this topic since-"
*Ahem* *Ahem* A feigned cough interrupted him in mid-sentence, the source of which was the returning Rouge.
In response, he just held out his hands in front of himself.
"Okay, forget it" The soldier got up from the table and, in the company of his silent comrade, headed towards the exit from the dining room.
Shadow just watched them go.
'What did he mean by that?' The dark hedgehog thought.
Carefully placing a tray with something that looked like a colorless porridge next to him, Rouge sat down opposite.
"Bon appetit, if that's what it can be."
After tasting the first piece, Shadow realized what she meant, the food provided tasted unpleasant and was not very easy to chew, but he didn't care about it. What difference does it make? Calories are calories, and it doesn't matter in what form.
Now, simply ignoring what he was eating, the dark hedgehog listened attentively to the bat that began to speak.
"You'd better get well as soon as possible, freeloaders are not particularly favored here, everyone is doing something one way or another. Moreover, you are in their special account, so you will most likely be enrolled in a reconnaissance squad with me."
"Sounds interesting" Shadow said after finishing his snack and moving away.
"But that's in the future, but for now we have some time to rest" Rouge finished and took the wheelchair by the handles.
After leaving the dining room, they were now moving together towards the sleeping compartment. Among the many rooms filled with snoring, they eventually came across an empty one. After helping Shadow move to a bunk bed, the bat itself lay down on the second tier and fell asleep a little later.
Looking at the ceiling lamp, the dark hedgehog kept thinking what would happen next, was the world really over, or was it still possible to return everything to normal?
What he knew for sure was that he would do his best...
rereading the metal virus saga i have a thing i wish someone would write a fic about cause shadow wasnt fully infected could he have been vaguely conscious while a zombot if so what would it have felt like that sensation constantly, destroying the planet hes meant to protect
also how does rouge cope with this in the comics there like a two second grief moment then shes fine i know she would be able to hold herself together for sonic and his friends but one of her team-mates is gone she would not be fine

The worst, but simplest way to draw Sonic (Or any other similar-built character)
Step 1: Preparation
In this case, I will use the Flipaclip application, which can be downloaded from Google Play
In the new project, we create two layers - sketch and result
Change the font width (For example, 2 pixels like mine) and set the transparent to 50%
Tumblr media
Select the first layer, go to the grid settings and configure it as convenient for you (Like mine for example)
Tumblr media
Step 2: Sketch
Draw the pose of the character from the circles (It is better, of course, with other geometric shapes, but this is enough for familiarization)
The largest is the head, the middle is the chest, the smaller is the pelvis, the smallest are the guides for the limbs, slightly larger ones for arms and legs
Next, connect them all, draw a plus sign on the head to determine the direction of view
Add some more details
Tumblr media
Step 3: Completion
Go to the second layer (Don't forget to set the transparency back to 100%) and trace the lines (It is not necessary to completely redraw the sketch, you can always make some changes to it) from the previously prepared sketch
Tumblr media
Now make the first layer invisible, turn off grid and admire the final result
Tumblr media
Congratulations, you drew your character in 10-15 minutes using the simplest way for it
To achieve the best result, draw as often as possible with an eye to other official and/or fan works, and also do not be afraid to experiment with character poses, shapes, sizes and styles
I FUCKING CANT DRAW SONIC THE HEDGEHOG OR SHADOW OR ANY FUCKING CHARACTER IN SONIC FRANCHISE I NEED TO BE ABKE TO DRAW THEM BUT I CANT

"As far as we know, MVNB's are not capable of infecting inorganic matter. Iron, plastic, rubber, etc. will not be exposed, so prostheses and implants made of such material are invulnerable to it. However, clothing made of low-density and water-permeable material is not able to provide adequate protection from MVNB's and in case of contact will soak or hide it depending on the type of spread, internal or external.
All carriers, without exception, are unable to perceive their actions because, due to the effects of MVNB's, they are in a coma-like state and are unable to get out of it without complete removal of the viral agent. As a feature of its structural features, they have greater strength, regeneration, the ability to see in the dark and high sensitivity to external stimuli. Resistance to external influences depends on the duration of infection, the longer the carrier is under MVNB's control, the less vulnerable it will be to damage. Limbs lost before infection will not be restored, since after complete turning, the viral agent considers this physical condition of its host to be the initial one."
— Dr. North, Senior Researcher at the Progress Scientific Complex
still thinking abt how zombot Bunnie would work (in regards to it being a replacement for the whole half-roboticized thing, which was an idea i saw a while back). would she be unable to touch anyone for fear of starting the spread of the virus again, or would it be sterile? how did it not get caught by the super hogs? better yet, why didn’t it get taken away by the super hogs? what does the metal virus do for her? does it do anything unique, or is it basically just normal body parts but with metal virus on them? does Bunnie get extra strength from it? regeneration? the zombots were basically immune to damage bc of their regeneration, so are Bunnie’s limbs invincible now, or is she basically a normal rabbit who happens to have regrowable limbs? could she wear clothes over the affected area to hide it from those around her, who would probably respond really badly if they saw someone with the virus? or would the virus just grow to include the clothes like it did with a lot of characters? sure most of those ‘clothes gets coated by the virus’ characters were wearing their clothes when they got infected, and there was the hooded guy in the restoration base who hid his infection, but we don’t know how it worked.
i just like thinking about it sometimes

Chapter Two: Unique Aftertaste
A sharp and sudden sound cut through space with its blade and echoed through consciousness.
"What is this?" Tails's mind, which had not yet fully returned from a trip to the void, was thinking hard.
Out of habit, rather than on the orders of the brain, the hand turned off the clock dancing on the shelf. It's stopped arrows showed eight o'clock in the evening. Now sitting on the edge of the bed, he kept trying to come to his senses, unsuccessfully going over the events of the past day, which now added a slowly drilling headache to his feeling of oversleeping. Having mastered his weakness and swaying, fox headed for the bathroom, almost hitting the door on the way.
Stepping over the threshold and flipping the switch, he stared blankly at the reflecting surface. The bags that had been missing recently returned to their once empty places under differently opened eyes and decorating the already not very pleasant appearance of his physiognomy. Usually invigorating cold water did not drive away the awakening fatigue and it would seem only diluted the concentration of the cement with which the head now felt. After admiring himself enough, Tails finished tidying up and headed for the kitchen.
Opening the refrigerator, two-tailed grabbed a bottle of water and began to greedily swallow its contents. Only after drinking half of it could he quench his thirst.
It became a little easier.
In search of something to occupy himself, Tails went to the workshop. And noticed something strange: Although he could remember what he had been doing in recent days, the appearance of the work done was somewhat different from what he remembered. What previously seemed to have been brought to an ideal state was not really such, in some places, upon careful examination, errors and flaws could be seen. Looking at the blueprints, Tails understood where these problems came from. Incorrectly performed calculations and uneven proportions ruined figures and geometric shapes of the original idea. Deciding to redo the spoiled work, he began to redraw them, but constantly confused in each other thoughts forced him to give up this lost cause.
Now, a few minutes later, two-tailed was lying on sofa in the living room and looking at the ceiling, despite the fatigue still present, he did not feel the need to sleep. Soon, hunger began knocking on the mind door. Abrupt and uninvited, it's demanded treats which Tails could not give in full. Deciding to appease it with a quick snack again, fox rummaged through the refrigerator for a while, from where a little later he took out some quick-to-eat food and consumed it. However, pleasant taste was somewhat weaker than he expected, but at least this was enough. The headache that had been tormenting heretofore went away with hunger and fatigue. After several hours of feeling unwell, Tails was finally able to relax by picking up a chemistry book that had recently got his interest. After reading about half of it, he began to yawn, lowering his head more and more each time. With a last silent click of the small arrow, wall clock struck midnight, knocking fox out of his half-sleep. Rubbing his eyes, he put the paper drive aside and hurried upstairs to the desired bed in order to continue the barely begun sleep. Tucked under the blanket, Tails closed his eyes. Sound of the beginning rain and the still relentless wind hummed an ear-caressing melody, calm and soothing.
.
.
.
Something snatched him out of his impenetrability, something fleeting and barely noticeable, but enough to excite his drowsy consciousness.
A strong knock of drops on the glass
Or a distant thunderbolt.
The fastening of old floorboards or...
Quiet footsteps.
Somewhere nearby, on the very edge of hearing.
Approaching and quieting down as quickly as they appeared, but had already warned their victim.
Laying motionless and noiselessly Tails was shackled by fear.
His ears were sharpened, ready to detect any disturbance in space. Heart accelerated its pace dangerously, accumulating adrenaline. Cold sweat slowly trickled down his heated forehead onto the white sheet, creating spots in the places of contact. Head buzzed with tension and veins bulged, ready to splash out on any source of danger. At any hint of a threat.
But it never showed itself. If there was one at all.
Without waiting for what he was looking for, candle of his consciousness went out, along with its burning wax energy.
.
.
.
Once again tired and now exhausted, Tails stood in front of the refrigerator door. The fingers of the hands independently chose a treat while their owner was looping in his head trying to figure out what had happened to him recently. A bad dream? hallucinations? Or something worse? The only thing that reminded of it now was a frantic heartbeat and a wet from sweat but still melting head. Trying to ignore them, twin-tailed sat down at the table and began to greedily, without even chewing, swallow the food. If it hadn't been for the disgusting taste, Miles wouldn't have noticed what he was eating. Despite the full belly, the hunger has not gone away.
'This is not overwork, there is clearly something wrong with me,' Tails thought, standing at the window and leaning against the wall. 'I urgently need medical help.'
He had almost reached the landline phone when his stomach rumbled menacingly, some time later a gag rattled on its doors. Without hesitating for a second, fox rushed up the stairs to the bathroom.
As soon as he managed to open the door, he was immediately overtaken by vomiting gusts. Standing on all fours, he unsuccessfully tried to stop the disgusting mass, but in vain. The remnants of undigested food splattered the floor in a torrent, drawing ugly patterns. The last drop of vomit came off in a long saliva and Tails sat down on the ground, shaking.
He stayed in this position for several minutes until he was able to regain control of his weakened body.
Finally gathering strength, he tried to sit up. After the second attempt, on wobbly legs, Tails moved towards his communicator, which he always left on the shelf.
Before reaching a few steps, the legs bent themselves. Remaining unsupported fox flew to the floor in the process hitting his head on the edge of the bedside table.
Sparks flew from eyes, burning through it's closed eyelids. Space shrank into a small dot through which a cracked and flickering monitor with a familiar blue face peered through. Numb fingers reached for the green button, but in a couple of centimeters from their target went limp and fell down like a stone.
The vibration of the device matched the fading heavy beat of the exhausted heart and subsided just as synchronously.

Transcript of the interrogation of a member of rescue group 4 related to incident 3A-67C.
Note: At the time of publication of this document, the case is closed.
Investigator: Aron "Light" Whist
Interrogated: Kane "Arrow" Rooks
Purpose of interrogation: Clarify the previous events and the causes of the incident
Course of the interrogation
— Could you repeat again what happened in Farside city? For the record.
The interrogated continues to sit with his face in hands and resting his elbows on the table.
— Arrow... Rooks, our command needs to understand what happened there. The consequences for those involved in the operation, including your subordinates, depend on the information they receive. So I'll ask you again: Tell them what happened there.
The captain exhales heavily and stops hiding his face.
— Okay. Okay, I'll tell you. Upon arrival in the city, alpha and beta took up positions at the eastern gate and the central entrance, respectively. Together with the BioSec team, I disembarked at the EP (Evacuation Point) on the main street near the local hospital and got down to business. While my guys were holding ZB's (Zombots) off the perimeter, pilot detected multiple vibrations somewhere inside QA (Quarantine Area). After determining the source, I sent several available SP (Security Personnel) to investigate, but none of them got in touch to report. Had to recall a couple of guys from the front line to find out the causes of it and place fire department personnel at hastily made observation posts. It soon became clear where the sent scouts had gone. I received a message from the recalled fighters about a large number of ZB's roaming inside the perimeter and requested reinforcement.
— Yes, the records from dispatch confirming it. But how did they get inside QA bypassing both field teams?
—The answer was revealed to us when I ordered alpha and beta to retreat to the LZ (Landing Zone), on the way back, one of them discovered a hole from which these creatures came out, apparently it was an abandoned part of the underground catacombs. While the city was quietly waiting for IEP (Initiation of Evacuation Protocol ), they rested there, but our appearance and the noise created in the process apparently woke them up, provoking to dig their way to the surface. While I was trying to reorganize the defense, both field teams were surrounded by external and internal ZB's, only a few among them them were able to reach the RV (Rendezvous). By the time support arrived, control of the situation was already critical. Once CV's (Civilians) heard the approaching horde, they began to panic and violate processing. One of the BioSec members was almost beaten to death by the few rebellious ones, their neutralization only increased the growing tension. When the ZB's broke through to the line of direct sight with the CV's, almost no one listened to the instructions given. Some of them tried to leave the EP only to get into the line of fire and further complicate the situation. Horde came dangerously close and grabbed the first of the crowd, everyone seemed to go crazy at this moment. CV's were running everywhere without looking, crushed each other, climbed over heads and bodies. BioSec team and SP who tried to stop them but were trampled in seconds. I ordered the remaining fighters to retreat to RS (Rescue Shuttle). In this chaos, it was impossible to identify RED (Designation of confirmed infected persons) among the approaching crowd. I couldn't let the potentially infected get onboard, and then I...
Captain covers his head with hands and begins to sob.
— And then you ordered to open fire?
Interrogated ignores all subsequent questions. Interrogation ends.
After collecting all the information, HQ command recognized actions of involved in this operation personnel as "justified". Captain Arrow has been assigned to a weekly and mandatory psychological examination from now on. Involved personnel have been temporarily placed on inactive duty.
In order to avoid the recurrence of such incidents, the following changes have been introduced:
Containment, evacuation and cleanup protocols have been updated.
All armed personnel are now required to undergo psychological training.
Size and operating of BioSec teams have been changed
Even a month after reading it, I’m still get taken aback by how dark the metal virus arc was, cause not only did all the main characters go through tins of grief, but we also see a glimpse into how other characters feel that aren’t apart of the main cast.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The poor girl, who knew she was infected, and despite that she tried and pleaded not to be left alone, cause the world was falling apart, she was losing everyone she loved, and she was scared. So the last thing she wanted was to be alone. Seeing this kind of feeling displayed in a sonic comic of all things filled me with dread, cause it felt oh so realistic, cause I know people in rl would react the same way.
What makes it worse is that she was screaming and crying up until vector, know definitely didn’t want to do this, but knew that if he didn’t, more people would be hurt, picked up a car and slammed it onto her, crushing her. And if she hadn’t turned into a zim bot after this point, that impact would have killed her.

In a distant world
Torn apart by eternal war
By brilliant mind and a cold heart
A living weapon was made
To end the endless confrontations
And make everyone equal
Metal Virus
Multiplying exponentially
Spreading like a plague
Befitting its creator
It knew no boundaries
One by one
Once flourishing settlements
Became monophonic tombstones
That have absorbed inhabitants minds
One by one
Once free souls
Became prisoners of their own bodies
That are hunting for the warmth they lack
Heroes tried to stop it
But they failed
Along with them
It absorbed the last pockets of resistance
In a distant cold world
Once torn apart by eternal war
With no heroes nor villains
Only remnants of the past
They now the last heartbeat carriers
Still alive - Survivors

Chapter One: Meal is Served
Preface:
Attention! The original AU belongs to incredible @sonicexelle-junkary , this fanfiction is a kind of "what if" based on the main idea of the comic, inspired by this blog and supplemented by my own questionable conjectures.
Nothing new on Mobius. Another day, another group of scoundrels is trying to rob the local residents who have already suffered from Eggman's villainies. But just like the main problem of this planet, they did not go far in their deeds because of one sonic-speed personality that in a matter of minutes sent the criminals to a place worthy of themselves and now freely moved on.
A blue blur swept down the main street, leaving a cloud of dust in its wake. The green iris of its eyes stopped at an approaching stall with chili dogs. Hungry from another rescue, the hero could not deny himself such a treat and, slowing down, leaned on the counter. With a smile radiating kindness, a hamster tied with a chef's apron turned towards the blue hedgehog. Two unclenched fingers were enough to let the seller understand without words. A few seconds later, an order was already in front of hedgehog, burning with an alluring smell, but in a single copy. The subsequent question was met with a regretful face and an apology for the missing item. He thanked anyway for the service and continued on his way.
.
.
.
Flashes of flying sparks periodically illuminate the already bright room from the iron-barred lamps, the dark glass of the welding mask reflects the increasingly clear shape of the mechanism. The glow stops and the blue eyes hiding behind the protective plastic leave their hiding place and peer into the outlines of the work done. Trained by many years, they immediately notices errors that have been hidden by excessively bright light. Being an avid perfectionist who was no longer constrained by the limits of haste, yellow fox could not afford to leave them as they were and having drawn out a solution plan in his head, he was already ready to start correcting when his sunken ears picked up the ringing of the door bell spreading in the air.
"Tails, I'm back!" A familiar voice sounded, the only thing that could take him away from his favorite business. Deciding to take a break, Tails left his workplace and headed up the stairs to the kitchen, where guest was already waiting for him, hiding something behind his back.
A pleasant smell tickling the nostrils immediately gave away what was hidden.
"Your favorite" Said the hedgehog, exposing the chili dog. "Unfortunately, there is only one, but nothing is too bad for my little buddy."
"Come on, Sonic" Fox replied modestly, "I can always share it with you."
"But I'm not!" After putting the snack on the table, he took a few steps forward and patted Tails on the head, "I can't let you starve because of me."
Knowing Sonic's stubbornness, Tails understood the futility of trying to convince and therefore did not object.
"Thank you" Only briefly left his lips.
Sonic hugged Tails, showering him with the warmth of his care. Something inside the fox cub was reluctant to let him go, afraid to lose this moment in time when nothing and no one could harm them. It was only a minute later that they were able to release each other from their embrace. Tails offered Sonic a snack and he went to the refrigerator in search of something to eat. Soon, the fox's eyes began to look at the cooling chili dog, the now unbearably alluring smell coming from it involuntarily made him salivate and want to consume as soon as possible.
Taking the delicacy in his hands, Tails took a bite. The teeth divided the piece into colors, and the tongue, like a talented artist, painted great pictures with its palette of tastes. For a second, his mind was lost in this art, and he himself did not want to leave this museum of pleasure. He was brought to himself only by a question that reached the cochlea.
"Is it delicious?" Blue ears flashed from behind the slightly swaying refrigerator door.
"Very much" Tails replied, returning to reality, swallowing a piece, "By the way, where did you get such a delicious chili dog?".
"In a stall on the main street, near the fifth warehouse." Sonic ran his fingers over himself as if drawing an invisible map.
'I should get more later' Tails thought as he ate the last bite.
After finishing his meal, the fox headed back to the workshop. With renewed vigor, he continued to work, a slight desire to have a snack again sometimes visited him, but under the pressure of new achievements it was soon pushed out of his head.
Waking up the next morning, Tails felt an unusual influx of strength and energy, the lack of sleep he had been accustomed to lately did not bother him this time. Deciding not to lose such a unique opportunity, the fox immediately began to create new inventions and only closer to noon the body announced the exhaustion of its reserves and now required replenishment. The hunger that came to his mind reminded of yesterday's chili dog, which with its alluring aroma and unsurpassed taste gave such a pleasant feeling. Remembering the address given by Sonic, Tails headed to this place, looking forward to trying out the much-desired delicacy again. It didn't take long to find the stall he was looking for, and a few minutes later he was on his way back. The seller said something after him, but the fox did not pay attention to it, he was much more interested in the contents of his package. Sometimes glancing at his snack, Tails could barely restrain himself from eating them here and now, trying to suppress this desire, fox accelerated his pace. By the time he put the contents of the bag on the table, drops of saliva had already begun to accumulate in the corners of his mouth, and his tongue was looking forward to a long-awaited meeting. After taking the first bite, Tails experienced the euphoria again, which only got stronger with each new bite. It was as if he was filled with energy that came from nowhere, new hitherto unknown sensations, attempts to resist which were impossible. And unwanted.
So a week passed. The productivity of the fox has grown to incredible heights, what used to take weeks now took only a few days of continuous work. However, beyond that, Tails began to notice some negative consequences. The number of chili dogs he ate was gradually increasing, but he could put it down to increased energy consumption. What bothered him the most was the increasingly noticeable problems with focusing, which sometimes made it difficult to concentrate. Perhaps the reason for this was overstrain due to a dramatically changed schedule, or maybe something else. Anyway, Tails decided to take the weekend off, but only after completing the current projects.
A few days later, the last bolt fell into its rightful place, and was securely fastened to the body of the new vehicle with a heavy tool. Exhaling contentedly, Tails wiped away the drops of perspiration that had stagnated on his forehead and, having moved away a few steps, now admired the results of his long work. A sudden gust of wind slightly squeezed out the closed ventilation grate, letting in faded sunlight. The fox turned his gaze to the clock that flashed by reflected light from the polished metal, the index hand barely reached the third hour with quiet clicks and sharp movements.
After climbing the stairs, Tails opened the refrigerator door and looked at the shelves that had been emptied during the time spent. Calculating the shopping list in his head, he was again visited by the desire to taste the cherished chili dogs and throwing on a windbreaker, he moved out of the house.
The wind, which had begun recently, continued to gain strength, taking away quiet times and penetrating through the passers-by who came across it. Wrapping himself up tightly and pressing the hood to his head, Tails quickened his pace. The hunger that had been lurking in the recesses of the mind began to come out under the sensual lamplight. Pretty soon, list of necessary purchases was reduced to a single item, the most desirable of all of them. But when fox went out onto the main street, he did not find the object he was looking for there. The familiar place greeted only with the absence of an alluring smell and a familiar stall, as if it had never existed. In a somewhat depressed mood, Tails returned home, upset by the lack of the expected delicacy, his stomach demanded a worthwhile alternative. The hastily prepared food calmed it down, but not the taste buds, which did not like this less tasty substitute. Feeling approaching fatigue, Tails headed to the bedroom, the soft bed wrapped in its fabric and absorbed the remaining strength along with his consciousness sinking deeper into the darkness...

"Department for studying the effects of the virus confirmed that the behavior of the zeds, despite their individuality, still has a common pattern. Thus, individuals prone to cruelty, after complete infection, show increased aggression towards the uninfected, which increases physical parameters such as strength and speed. Even in the absence of a goal, such zeds maintain a high level of sensitivity to external stimuli and often act separately from the rest.
As for the reasonableness of the Zeds. Any attempts to contact those affected by the virus are meaningless due to the fact that the higher functions of the brain are in a state of suspended animation under the influence of the virus. Attempts to awaken the affected with the help of medications provoke the resistance of the virus, which leads to a disruption of vital activity with a fatal outcome.
Our further focus is aimed at studying the possibility of separating MVNB particles from body cells by using electric pulses of limited frequency and a magnetic field, or finding method for controlling zeds through their communication modules (see document MVR-23)"

So I'm looking through references for the Zombots so I can get a solid idea for how to design Silver as a Zombot for this comic (because there is a general trend with Zombot designs) and I noticed something.
The main characters seem pretty aware as Zombots. More aggressive than they usually are, yes, but aware.
You might be wondering why this is such a big deal to me. It's because the Zombots are literally zombie robots, that's where the term "Zombot" comes from; the Metal Virus is meant to basically turn anything it touches that's sentient into a mindless slave for Eggman. The reason the outbreak got so far out of hand is because of how much it mutated. It mutated to a point that Eggman couldn't control the Zombots anymore (something Starline told him off for).
But you look at for example Shadow compared to even just Rough or Tumble and Shadow looks very much more aware than either of them:

It's also worth noting that in this panel specifically, the Zombots Shadow was fighting are very much "no thoughts, head empty" (and I believe Eggman mentioned to Starline at some point that Zombots are driven purely by instinct to spread the virus and have no free will) but Shadow looks like his mind is on murder. He doesn't look driven by instinct; he looks like he's thinking for himself and actively going to act on his own thoughts and ideals instead of his instincts. He looks like he'd kill Eggman if he found him which is absolutely not something the Zombots were programmed to do. Additionally, while Zombots are aggressive to organic beings, they aren't to the extent that Shadow seems to be here.

Of course, this could just be because of Shadow's personality vs Rough and Tumble's, or have something to do with willpower. But it does make me wonder how much the Metal Virus had mutated by the time Shadow was infected.
The comic I alluded to at the start of the post is essentially an Espilver last survivors of the apocalypse type AU where Silver gets infected with the Metal Virus but it's mutated to a point where the only real difference is his appearance and having a voice at the back of his mind telling him to infect people (which he can't do due to the virus's mutations at this point; I might make a graph or something similar on how the Metal Virus mutated in this AU).
Additionally, as the Metal Virus Arc goes on, it almost feels like the infection speed slows down compared to the beginning. Amy, Knuckles, and Tails are directly attacked by Zombots in the final issue of the Metal Virus Arc (Amy's fighting Big and ends up colliding with him, thus infecting her, Tails gets attacked by Cheese and Chocola, and Knuckles starts fighting Shadow) and aren't infected all that fast. In Knux's case it might be because he's actively fighting Shadow, but he's also directly attacking a Zombot. You'd think he'd end up infected at a similar speed to Shadow; he gets infected at a slower rate than Shadow was infected.
It just makes me wonder how much the Metal Virus mutated by the time the Metal Virus Arc was over.
