As tempted by @generalized-incompetence's final Deck The Halls chapter: Dirk and Todd engaging in sofa snuggles.

I did a series of these because variety! Pick your fave! Third is kind of a joke tho. Anyway as a result they're not exactly refined, so sorry about that.

(If it's not obvious (which, given the picture quality and the quantity of random sketchy lines, I can imagine that it isn't) Todd has a hand in Dirk's hair in all of these, as in the wonderful source material.)

I just needed some heart eyes Todd staring at Dirk being Dirk 🥰 and this fic was the perfect inspiration.

Thinking about how Dirk is so unapologetically himself when we meet him, and whether that's his normal state or whether it's because the universe has promised him a friend no matter what. I feel like there's so much of him and he's had to tamp it down and box himself up to survive in the world, but since he knows Todd will be around for some time at least, maybe, for the first time, he lets himself go. Maybe he unfurls just a little bit. Maybe Todd is the first person who has seen Dirk, and not the muted substitute Dirk's been presenting to the world.

And maybe when Todd leaves he thinks "Well, that's it, I am too much after all," and he starts to box himself up again, but then Todd comes back. Todd chose to be friends with all of him. So maybe after that it's a little easier to be himself, more of himself, and trust that that's okay. And maybe the best part of having friends is that, for the first time in his life, maybe unlike college or London or anywhere else, these people aren't friends with some damped-down, curled-in version of him - they're friends with all of him, too.

Forever crying that we didn't get the precursor to this scene

Like... its not that easy... or graceful hopping up to sit on a car roof

So I'm imagining that Dirk gets out of the car first and immediately just starts trying to sit up on the roof, and is jumping and sticking his legs up and scrambling to get a hold and Todd is just like wtf.... he just said he was getting gas and now he's like... doing weird ass shit again, so he waits like 30 seconds before he goes out and is like.... what are you doing and Dirk is like getting gas and Todd is like yes I am, my card is in my pocket Todd as he's still hanging off the side of the car and Todd gets his wallet out and just starts to pump the gas and Dirk finally gets onto the car and it leads into this scene where he's all like oh you, being my assistant already... so sweet...

Like I dont know the exact calculations for how high someone can just like backwards hoist themselves onto a surface like a car roof, but I'm pretty sure it's not as easy as just a good hop lol though I am a good like... 7 inches shorter than Samuel Barnett so who knows... or maybe he walked up the hood of the car and sat down

It's interesting how after Bart gets hurt in season 1, she tells Ken, "I'll die if I'm supposed to die, I'm not going to the hospital" and like she's never gotten hurt before so like she wouldn't have had reason to be in the hospital for being hurt.

The obvious answer would be that it's Blackwing related, that Blackwing was close enough to a hospital that she doesn't want to be somewhere that people are going to be annoying about her leaving or whatever.

But since we don't have a lot of info about Bart's backstory, I believe there was like a brief mention maybe in the comics that she had gotten started with the murdery stuff pretty young. I don't imagine she'd have gone to Blackwing immediately, so there had to be a portion of time as small child Bart was being found around dead bodies/being seen killing people whether it's inadvertently or directly. Small children killing people don't go to prison, they get institutionalized.

So imagine little sweet baby Bart, doesn't know why the deaths keep happening around her, she's not violent, things just happen and people just die, and now she's stuck in a place with people that keep asking her why she does the things she does, and trying to get her to stop and be better, but then people keep dying, despite everything they put in place, and her freedoms get smaller and smaller and nobody can give her any answers to why she keeps doing this.

Until one day, there's a visitor, a CIA government visitor that tells her they can help her, that she's not bad, she's important, she's essential to the universe, so she goes with them and swears never to go to another stupid hospital again.

God that pier scene will never not hit super hard

Gosh it hurts me so much

And like the bit just before todd had been shouting about like focusing on one mistake and hurting people along the way and you can't fix everything and dirk is just like hearing todd talking and like maybe feeling hopeful that Todd is realizing that it's not all dirks fault and his nervous rambling as they're walking just like maybe if I can distract him long enough he'll forget all that time travel strategic no truthing
