The 18 Best Classic Beauty Products Worth the Investment
Tumblr media
Photo: @EMMAHILL Quick question—you know that deeply satisfying feeling of finding the perfect pair of jeans after hours, days, weeks, months, maybe even years of searching? The kind of feeling that warrants spontaneously buying 11 pairs and throwing an entire rent payment at the sales associate just to ensure you never have to live another day of your life without this magic pair of clothing? The same phenomenon can occur when you find the perfect foundation, nail colour, lipstick shade, or lengthening mascara. Sometimes there are certain outfits (or in our case, beauty products) you just can't help but say yes to. So we thought we'd celebrate those cult-classic beauty finds that might not actually save your life. but kind of feel like they are a beauty equivalent of a superhero cape. Keep reading to see which beauty products in this super-saturated industry are so deeply satisfying they're basically the equivalent of finding the perfect pair of jeans but, you know, for your face or hair. Makeup The Lip p Wet Lip Oil Gloss (£24) Mark my words: 2020 will be the year of lip oils. The product has been bubbling for a couple of years, but suddenly almost every major brand is debuting its own iteration. That said, I think Kosas's is by far the one to beat. Each of the five colours is gorgeous, and the texture and pigment payoff can't be beaten. Magically, I never have to reapply it throughout the day, and it's not too sticky or slippery. Congratulations to Kosas because it basically created the perfect lip product. The clean formula is also boosted with luxe ingredients like hyaluronic acid, peptides and evening primrose oil. Fruitjuice and Malibu are my favourite shades.

The 15 Best Leopard-Print Coats, Hands Down
Tumblr media
Do leopard-print coats ever go out of fashion? We'd argue that they never do. Thanks to the likes of modern muses Kate Moss and Alexa Chung, this particular coat or jacket is always a great way to make an outfit suddenly more fabulous. So what do you need to know about 2020's version of leopard-print outerwear? A couple of years ago, we were all after Victoria Beckham's new twist on the look—she gave it a whole new feel with her wide lapel and belted version. It was less about the oversize faux-fur look and more about making the coat super elegant. While we're still adhering to this style, we've also invested in puffer leopard-print coats too, as seen at Moncler and the more affordable Kitri. However, in 2020, there is a return to the classic faux-fur look, with the likes of Gucci producing some much-needed fabulousness with its over-the-top cuffed coat. Then there's a sleek oversized style from Bottega Veneta and a polished vinyl belted trench from Miu Miu, which are both far too chic to ignore. Photo: @tineandreaa This coat will always elevate basic jeans and black boots. Whether you'll be digging your own vintage leo prints out of storage or shopping for a fresh spin on fashion's most enduring trend, one thing's for sure: This year, we've been covered in animal prints, and that's set to continue. The Best Rattan Furniture to Buy This Year
Tumblr media
Is it just me, or has homeware become the new currency for Instagram's fashion elite? For many years, it was all about toting the latest It bag or cult dress, but now, the big-name editors and influencers are looking to their interiors to display their impeccable taste, one-upping each other with distinctive furniture, one-of-a-kind ceramics and fun fabrics. It also helps that style destinations such as Matches, H&M and Zara are offering up their own chic interior edits… Photo: @hannahcrosskey This year, there is one interiors trend, in particular, emerging as the front runner for the nation's most stylish home decorators, and that's rattan. Offering a distinctively rustic finish, this trend has been rendered in everything from chairs and tables to lamps and mirrors. One particular H&M rattan chair sold out in record speed, but worry not because there are plenty of fab alternatives at a range of price points. These New Balance Trainers Could be the Next Stan Smiths
Tumblr media
The athleisure trend, at least on the street style circuit, is definitely waning in popularity. The proliferation of boldly branded track pants and sports leggings is declining in favour of matching trackie sets in muted tones and split-hem leggings paired with elegant mules. However, sneakers still remain popular. After everyone and their gran was wearing Stan Smiths (thanks to Phoebe Philo), it was the turn of "ugly" and bold sneakers, with Balenciaga's Triple S and Louis Vuitton's Archlight styles ruling the scene. Today's favoured sneaker is, I think, somewhere in between. Seen at Copenhagen Fashion Week on mega-influencer Pernille Teisbaek, the New Balance 990v5s have become the fashion set's sneaker of choice. The 990v5s adhere to the more quiet tones for the coming season and were originally created in 1982. The style gives off a "dad" sneaker vibe so it's still oversized without being ostentatious. Wear them with jeans and a blazer for the Princess Di look or just pair with your favourite printed dress. Keep scrolling on how to style yours, and then shop our edit of the best New Balance sneakers. Photo: Style Stalker Style Notes: Wear some eye-catching socks and your favourite skirt and puffer coat. Photo: @pernilleteisbaek Style Notes: For a more pared-back take on wearing the trainers, opt for beiges and caramel tones. Photo: @pernilleteisbaek Style Notes: A tracksuit can still look elegant. The Top Zara Spring 2020 Trends to Buy Into This Spring
Tumblr media
Right now, the high street seems to be in a bit of a state of confusion—one that resembles our current wardrobes. On one rail, you'll find linen dresses, crop tops, and swimwear, while opposite, another is packed full of puffer coats, chunky knits, and woollen trousers. Thus proving that early spring can be challenging to dress for. However, one brand which seems to have this awkward transeasonal period down is Zara. Because, of course, it does. Photo: @eniswardrobe Zara is the place we always turn to when our outfits need a quick update, and the items on offer in-store at present certainly fit this bill. On our Zara early spring shopping list, you'll find everything you need to see out the last dregs of winter in style, confident in the knowledge that they'll also last you until high summer. From knitted twinsets—which are fast-becoming the brand's most sought-after pieces—to the jewellery trend that's practically guaranteed to breathe a new lease of life into your ensembles, keep scrolling to see and shop five of Zara's spring 2020 trends. These Are the Designer Buys That Are Best to Buy Secondhand
Tumblr media
Whether you're an avid observer of street style or simply like to scroll through Instagram for all your outfit inspiration, there's no doubting the fact that each year a number of trends emerge when it comes to designer items. From Gucci's Marmont crossbody bag to Bottega Veneta's enviably cool pouch clutch, certain items develop a cult-like status amongst fashion enthusiasts and industry insiders, alike. Though, cult status aside, you might be asking yourself which brands actually hold their value? Or which brands are the most in-demand when it comes to resale? Well, thanks to Vestiaire Collective, we might just have the answers, as the designer resale site has compiled some statics in order to let us know which brands were the most popular in 2019 and which are on the rise for 2020. Photo: @thestylestalkercom According to Vestiaire Collective, Gucci continues to be the golden child of the resale market as the brand came out on top as the number one selling brand on Vestiaire for 2019. What's more is the brand actually grew an impressive 39% year on year, in terms of sales volume. Open for Vintage, another vintage luxury resale site, also saw an increase in demand for Gucci in 2019. As the brand explained, at the beginning of the year Gucci accounted for 1.4% of overall sales on the site, however, it ended the year making up around 13% of total sales. Aside from Alessandro Michele's obvious success, according to Vestiaire, Dior also saw a 40% year on year growth in sales volume while Prada's sales also increased by 39% year on year. In terms of emerging brands, Ralph Lauren had the highest growth rate with a staggering 234% sales increase year on year on Vestiaire, while influencer-favourite Ganni followed closely behind with a 189% year-on-year sales increase. So whether you're choosing to purchase from the resale market or plan to buy your items new with the thought of reselling in the future, according to Vestiaire, the five brands below are definitely a good investment. 6 Simple Outfits That Are Anything But Boring
Tumblr media
It's come to that time in winter when getting ready in the morning can feel a little bit tedious. Between figuring out how many layers you'll require and wondering which comfortable commute shoes to wear, there's hardly any time to put together a look that is distinctive or unique. Our advice on the matter? Don't. While it can feel all too easy to rely on your tried-and-tested wardrobe staples, we're here to tell you there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. After all, they are called staples for a reason. Those dependable items that make up the foundation of your wardrobe always become a high priority at this time of year, as you know they're the exact pieces that will get you through the season. They're also the items that can easily be mixed and matched and will look good no matter what you pair them with. From leggings and straight-leg jeans to cream jumpers and knitted dresses, some of our favourite influencers are proving that going back to basics has never been chicer. This winter, we're all about investing in those "buy now, wear forever" kind of pieces. Keep scrolling for six simple outfits that are anything but basic. 1. The Best Wide-Leg Trousers for Petites.
Tumblr media
I've been a fashion editor for a good few years now and one of my favourite items of clothing that I think makes me look put-together is wide-leg trousers. The only problem is, I'm 5'2 (just) and it's often a difficult balancing act between looking chic and looking swamped. Find the right pair though, and worn with the perfect heeled boot, this pants style works wonders for leg lengthening, making you appear taller and, I always think, smarter. It took me a long time to discover the joys of this trend though. Being on the shorter side meant I avoided them like the plague, ogling from afar at tall girls wearing them in the office or at fashion week. Out of jealousy I secretly hoped they would be one of those passing trends I would one day be glad I never took part in. When I did try any on, they would always seem to be inches too long or way too swishy and wide. It was only when I was forced into a pair for an event one day and was showered with compliments that I started to embrace the full ego-enhancing effect of the wide-leg trouser. Yes it takes a lot of trying to find the perfect shape (not too flared, not too long, pockets are always a plus) but I learnt that it's really all in the styling as well. Wide-legs look great with trainers but unless you're 6 ft the likelihood is you'll get soggy hems if you step out in the rain. Heels, high ones, work for an evening look and one of my favourite outfits for party season is to team them with some stilettos, a silk cami and velvet blazer. As women we all know our highest heels aren't a realistic option for long days in the office or being out and about though, so I landed on heeled ankle boots which add height and sophistication without the pain— perfect! Photo: Emily Dawes If you're trying the trend for the first time, the high street has so many amazing options for you to road test. If you're small like me, it goes without saying that anywhere with a dedicated petites line is a great place to start— Topshop and ASOS impress me the most as a lot of their main line styles are replicated. M&S always surprises me for great quality and I have a pair from Warehouse that I've never even had to take up. My next piece of advice is to make friends with your local tailor. Find a good alterations service near you and you'll be amazed at how it opens up your wardrobe options - our favourite petite influencer Monikh swears by it. The 6 Best Affordable Skincare Brands
Tumblr media
There was a moment a few years ago when everyone started taking skincare super seriously. It was a common opinion that if you used face wipes, you were told to sit on a naughty step, and if you didn't know the names of the actives in a serum, then you shouldn't be using it. Let's not even discuss the fact that if you weren't following a 15-step skincare routine in a very precise order, you were simply missing out. Honestly, it all got a bit too much. At the same time, unless you were using The Ordinary, affordable skincare brands just weren't the brands of choice. We wanted to discover the latest buys with the latest super ingredients, which usually had the price tags to match. Photo: @STELLASIMONA Fast-forward to 2020, and while we're all way more educated on what goes onto our faces, there's much less skincare snobbery. It's also fired-up affordable skincare brands to release new collections, have brand makeovers and to swap out some of their ingredients. If you're looking for the best affordable skincare brands, keep scrolling. 1. Versed Who What Wear's sister brand is living proof that you can do affordable and results-driven skincare without compromising on the claims we care about (sustainable, vegan and cruelty-free). The collection is full of hero products in #shelfie-worthy packaging that won't max out your credit card. p Skin Soak Rich Moisture Cream (£17) Creams that are so dense, rich and dessert-like deserve to be in everyone's beauty collection. The really great ones are actually worth the splurge, but Versed has somehow managed to do it for under £20. There's plenty of skin-loving ingredients in this like algae, vitamin E and squalene to keep skin filled with moisture.

Ankle Boots With Skirts and Tights Is Winter Perfection
Tumblr media
From age 4 onward, tights are a standard part of most of our school uniforms. Most of us have at least one story when we’ve unfortunately trapped our skirt or dress in them. That’s before we’ve got on to the subject of tights that fall down so frequently you walk like a penguin for a lot of the day. What I’m saying is by the time you’ve escaped school, you’re ready to peel off your pantyhose ASAP. But the thing is that tights are actually pretty great. Think about all the great winter outfits, and ankle boots plus tights and a skirt has to be one of them. No matter the length of the skirt, you can guarantee the addition of a pair of ankle boots will make it feel ideal for the colder weather. Ready to see five different ways to style this look? Keep scrolling for more. 1. MIDI SKIRT + STOMPER BOOTS Photo: Getty Style Notes: One of the biggest boot trends this winter has been of the stomping variety. The Best Basics I Always Buy From Market
Tumblr media
As any fashion editor will tell you, basics are arguably the most important part of your wardrobe. In our experience, if you don't build a strong grounding, then you will struggle to put together outfits—after all, you can't create a painting without a canvas or a building without foundations. You get the idea. If you look at the best outfits on Instagram, you'll soon realise that each and every one will include a staple, whether it's a white tee, classic flat boot, blazer or tailored trousers. In summary? Basics are big business. Photo: Getty Images Wearing my favourite Arket white tee at fashion week. The four things I look for in a good basic are as follows: Fit, quality of the material, colour and versatility, and from my extensive shopping experience, I can safely say that Arket ticks all the boxes every time. For example, I searched high and low for the perfect white tee and, unexpectedly, Arket's £15 crewneck came up trumps (my husband finds the same with the men's iterations, FYI). It's the ideal amount of fitted on the shoulders and loose, but not baggy, around the hips, and I also seriously rate the crewneck collar. Before I get carried away with my ode to the Arket white T-shirt, let me present you with the 18 other basics that the brand has totally nailed. From the sharp tailored trousers and the softest roll-neck knit to the oversized white shirt and the elevating knee-high boots, scroll down to shop my edit. Puff-Sleeved Blouses Are Set to Be Everywhere This Spring
Tumblr media
In the Who What Wear office, we often talk about the trends that scare us or those that don't fit in with our personal aesthetics. Some editors say they'd never try a baseball cap, others express a distinct phobia of knee-length Bermuda shorts. Me? Well, prior to starting my role here at Who What Wear, I vowed to never wear oversized puff sleeves. Proportionally, I always felt a puff-sleeved top would drown me, and personally, the aesthetic felt a little over the top for my generally minimalist personal style. Who needs a statement sleeve? I thought to myself. Turns out, I do. Proving once and for all that you should never say never when it comes to fashion, lately, I've found myself coveting puff sleeves tops, particularly those found on the high street. A few weeks back I saw H&M's very elevated new spring campaign imagery and immediately felt the need to add a puff sleeve blouse to my repertoire. Soon after that, I spotted a pink puff-sleeved button-down on Zara's product pages and that's when I was really sold on the trend. Photo: Zara Of course, the style set is already all over the trend, as editors and influencers were sporting statement shoulders all through last summer and into the new year. I might be a little late to the party on this one, but I think we can officially call me a puff-sleeve devotee. What Not to Buy From Zara (Yes, Really)
Tumblr media
Hold up—there are actually items Who What Wear UK editors won’t buy from Zara? I know—we can barely believe it ourselves, but it’s true, and today we’re here to share exactly what we prefer not to buy from the fast-fashion retailer. While the “don’t buy” lists are significantly shorter than the “must-buy” lists, the reasoning behind each editor’s answer is worth hearing out. Photo: @slipintostyle Slip Into Style’s Ellie wears a polka-dot Zara dress Now, we aren’t saying you shouldn’t be purchasing these things from Zara. (Heck, some of the items our editors would rather not buy might be your favourite Zara section, and that’s okay.) In this situation, there’s no right or wrong answer, because at the end of the day, you know we all have an unhealthy obsession with the brand, so who are we to judge? We just thought it would be interesting to find out what these knowledgeable editors steer clear of when it comes to shopping at Zara, in addition to the items they’re eyeing at this exact moment. Read on to find out which items our Who What Wear UK editors would never buy from Zara, plus the items currently on their radar. Hannah Almassi, Editor in Chief Photo: @hannahalmassi “I don’t buy trousers from Zara, as they never fit me! I’m a size 12, and unless they’re stretchy or feature an elastic waistband, it’s a no-go. Although I love the styles on offer, even the size L doesn’t seem to work for me, so rather than make myself feel fed-up, I’ve just stopped even trying them on. Instead, I always opt for skirts, especially those that are fitted at the waist but fuller on the bottom. That kind of silhouette seems to fit my hourglass figure far better when it comes to this store.”

The Best Delicate Jewellery Brands for Everyday Pieces
Tumblr media
While I do love a drop earring and in my youth considered myself somewhat of a statement-necklace connoisseur, there's something inexplicably appealing about delicate jewellery that can be worn around the clock. From thin layered necklaces to dainty stud earrings, I'm finding myself gravitating more and more toward the tiny, intricate adornments that promote a quality-over-quantity kind of mindset Photo: @aimeesong These days, when it comes to jewellery, it is much less about attention-grabbing and much more about finding the pieces that will stand the test of time. With this in mind, I set out to compile a list of the delicate jewellery pieces that deserve a spot on my wish list. Of course, with a query like this, it felt necessary to consult a panel of experts. (And by experts, I mean our editorial team here at Who What Wear UK.) From Astrid & Miyu's huggie hoops to Missoma's thin chain necklaces, there are certainly a few jewellery box favourites that can be categorised as standouts among my fellow editors. And with a plethora of inspiration online courtesy of the street style set, it’s hard not to get carried away and start creating Pinterest style galleries of expertly layered necklaces or perfectly placed earrings. To save you the hassle of an Instagram deep dive, I’ve compiled some inspiration images and created a list of the brands our editors turn to for everyday jewellery pieces they never want to take off.
