I think Eddie Diaz is an incredible man and I might cry over him because rewatching 2x01 and realizing that, when he volunteered to pull the grenade out of Charlie's leg, he was essentially volunteering to make his son an orphan if things went to shit is the #1 reason why I cry myself to sleep at night, like.

POV: You are Eddie Diaz. You are a single father. Your wife left you in the middle of the night, your parents think you are a failure, maybe you are a failure, you are saddled with an unquenchable loyalty and unshakeable honor, the type of loyalty that has you pulling your team out of a heap of scrap metal under fire, the type of honor that leaves you feeling hollow because you've given everything to everyone and left nothing for yourself. your first day at work goes from okay to oh no because the boss's golden boy doesn't like you and everything goes to shit from there, you try to understand him and it only makes things worse so you shut up and stop trying and when you get home from work there's no food in the fridge so you'll have to go to the store but then you realize you might not get home from work because some guy got an explosive stuck in his leg and your honor, your sacrifice, and the way you're carved from devotion to a cause you don't always understand but fully believe means you can't just let him die, your son is too young to lose another parent and you're too young to die anyway because you're only twenty something and you haven't even lived and the boy next to you can't think beyond yourself but you have a whole other life to think of, a life that's going to be shipped back to texas before he even gets settled because you had to go and get yourself killed why did you get yourself killed you're already dead why did you volunteer to die with a guy who couldn't care whether you live or die your son is going to cry but at least he'll know daddy tried he always tries he's too young to lose a parent but he might lose one anyway because maybe fatherlessness is as much of a generational curse as alcoholism and neglect wait a minute i'm alive how did that happen it wasn't supposed to happen it happened we're friends i need to go home i need to submit my pics for the hot days smoldering nights firefighter calendar liKE ????????????????????????????
