Just beat Olivia, and Barry's team did so well on the second island. It's incredible how well a team of Pokémon can do when they aren't all the same type.

Starting my first run of a Pokémon game using a Sinnoh character's team! I'm doing Ultra Moon as usual, with Barry's team. My favorite Sinnoh starter is Piplup, so I'm using the Platinum team that he has when you choose Piplup and he chooses Turtwig. I bred for a few egg moves: double-edge on Starly, high horsepower on Ponyta, and both double-edge and zen headbutt on Munchlax. Also breeding two egg moves onto my Munchlax was painful. I had to take my male Snorlax with Immunity, breed it with Ditto until I got a Snorlax with the 20% chance to have Thick Fat. Then I had to breed that male Thick Fat Snorlax with a Ditto for the 10% chance to get a female Snorlax with Thick Fat (only 1 in 8 Snorlax are female). It took me exactly 31 eggs to get that Snorlax, which, if I remember my statistics correctly, is about a 4.2% chance to take that long. Then I had to breed that with a Venusaur with double-edge for another Thick Fat female Snorlax, then finally breed that one with a Slowpoke with zen headbutt while holding a full incense to get a Munchlax with both egg moves. It was. Very boring. But! I'm ready to start a new playthrough in Alola!

Just beat Hala! My Heracross literally beat the Totem Raticate in one hit. It was glorious. And then my Heracross beat Hala's entire team with Aerial Ace. I had no idea Heracross was gonna perform this well.

Gosh dang, I just finished my last run of Moon/Ultra Moon using an important team from Pokémon Emerald. Time for Platinum teams?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
About to start my run of Pokémon Ultra Moon using Steven's team! I'm excited for this one, I think his team is really cool given the fossil Pokémon, the pseudo-legendary, and overall theme of antiquity. I bred for two egg moves: Brave Bird on Skarmory and Cross Poison on Anorith. My team is under the cut.

Just Beat Nanu! I took a while to do this island and my memory is failing me when it comes to the most important moments, but it's nice to see my team finally evolving.

Just beat Olivia. It's nice to use a non-monotype team for once, because this run has been pretty easy so far. The only trial that really worried me was the Totem Araquanid, but luckily some Rock-type and Flying-type moves were enough to make that fight surprisingly easy with a team that' s very vulnerable to Water types.

Just beat Hala. The Totem Alolan Raticate was easy with Brick Break on my Anorith and Hala was easy with Confusion on my Baltoy and Brave Bird on my Skarmory. That said, I'm having a fun start to this playthrough :)

Just finished by Wallace team run of Pokémon Ultra Moon! The champion battle was. Well. It reminded me of that "Hydrogen Bomb vs Coughing Baby" thing. My Whiscash took out his most threatening Pokémon to Water-types, Alolan Raichu, and his Tauros's Intimidate procced my Milotic's Competitive which allowed him to sweep half of the champion's team on its own. I think this is my first time beating the champion in a monotype run without a single Pokémon fainting. This team did a great job throughout this run, and next will be my Steven team playthrough.

About to start my playthrough of Pokémon Ultra Moon using Wallace's team from Pokémon Emerald! I just made it to the first Pokémon Center and transferred the team I bred over from Pokémon Ultra Sun. I wanted my Milotic to know Dragon Pulse and have the ability Competitive, and weirdly enough the best way for me to get that was to breed the shiny female Oblivious Feebas that my sister gave me with the shiny male Altaria that knows Dragon Pulse that my sister gave to me too. I evolved the baby Feebas immediately before transferring it to Ultra Moon instead of waiting until the third island to fish up a Prism Scale. My team is under the cut :)

Hapu is done! I was SO happy to finally get the Scald TM on the fourth island. Having Water Pulse, Brine, or Bubble Beam be the strongest Water-type moves on the majority of my Water-type team was so frustrating. Hapu was predictably easy with Wallace's team, and of course Ultra Necrozma demanded Toxic to beat. I used Toxic on the Totem Ribombee too, but at least I got through it.

I went out of my way to breed a Milotic with Dragon Pulse for an Ultra Moon playthrough and it has been useful as a decent Special attack against enemies that resist Water and not Dragon, but then I fight Lusamine and her Milotic also casually had Dragon Pulse. It doesn’t feel as special anymore 😭

Just beat Nanu. The trials were pretty easy and I feel like nothing too notable happened on the third island in this run. My team is fully evolved now which is cool. I decided to grind after the Gladion fight to get my team to level 43 (they were at 39 and 40). My team was a little underleveled for a while there, and I wonder if it's because of my Milotic and Wailord both belonging to weird experience curves. Milotic is one of those Pokémon that levels up very slowly early on then very quickly later on, and Wailord levels up quickly early on and then slowly later on. Maybe this is a weird level range for the two of them that's slowing down my team's levels? I usually don't have to grind at all in Moon until Hapu's grand trial, but this may be different in Ultra Moon, I'm not sure. My team's under the cut.

Olivia was easy to beat with my Water-type team, though I came surprisingly close to two Pokémon fainting. I think that trainers have great IVs and EVs in Ultra Moon, right? That's probably why. The Grass-type trial was much more difficult, but I made it through. Also apparently you can get a Prism Scale for Milotic just after the Water trial, you don't have to wait until the third island. I still stand by evolving my Feebas before starting the run though.

Doing my run of Pokémon Ultra Moon using Champion Wallace's team and just barely clutched a victory in the Totem Lurantis fight without using items! My Tentacool went out first and was one-shot by the Lurantis's Solar Blade, so the rest of my team slowly debuffed Lurantis to -4 Attack with Gyarados's Intimidate and -3 Speed with Wailmer and Barboach's Rock Tomb. Along the way I knocked out the ally Kecleon and Comfey. My Milotic was my last Pokémon, came out at full health, and immediately got hit by a Low Sweep from Lurantis that not only did pathetic damage but activated my Milotic's Competitive, doubling his Special Attack. From there Milotic just spammed Dragon Pulse while Lurantis spammed Synthesis and the damage Milotic dealt slowly outpaced Lurantis's healing until I won! That was an awesome fight, and I definitely underestimated it. I thought Tentacool would be able to land an Acid Spray and the fight would be basically free from there, but I forgot that Lurantis could use a one-turn Solar Blade at the start of the battle. Oops.

Just beat Hala! I'm so glad I evolved Feebas immediately instead of waiting to get a Prism Scale in this playthrough because Milotic has been my carry in the most tricky trainer battles. Also it would have just sucked to be lugging a useless Magikarp AND an almost useless Feebas around in the same party. Either way, this playthrough's going well and I'm having fun
