Sunday Homicide

A Brief Overview - Derrick Sheppard

Sunday Homicide is a comic created between friends and myself. It has come a long way from what it originally was. Characters have been slowly ironed out, plot holes filled, and a whole universe has been constructed around our ideas. So, while it is still in the works, here is a brief glimpse into one of the characters of Sunday Homicide.

Who is Derrick Sheppard?

Detective Derrick Sheppard works in the homicide investigation unit. He is 32 years old, male, and 6’2”. He is bi, but prefers women over men. He is fairly quick tempered and aggressive, and surprisingly one of the oldest members of his team. The detective tends to bury himself in his investigations, but outside of work he frequents a nearby BDSM club. His best friend, Amelia, works there, and occasionally he does workshops as a rigger. Outside of this, he has very few hobbies. Work has consumed his life, which is exactly the way he likes it.

Family

He has a brother named Brandon who is a musician. He is nine years younger than Derrick, so he’s 23. In his free time, he travels to see him perform, although this is rather rare. His mother is Ava, who is now married to his step-mother Elly after a messy abusive relationship with his father, Nathan. Nathan left home when Derrick was 12, then was later killed when he was 25 in a car crash.

He does not have a partner or significant other, but instead has many small affairs and ‘play’ partners. He’s found it difficult to function in a typical relationship and remain committed, which often leads to his relationships grinding to a halt. He does not cheat, but rather has a difficult time conveying his needs and wants, so he slowly becomes distant.
