As someone that has grown up surrounded by beaches and done surf life saving, I know how the sea works. Lots of people dont. Every summer multiple tourists die here because they don鈥檛 respect the sea, if you鈥檙e going to the coast, here鈥檚 a thing I saw on Facebook.

fascinated by how "dislocate" seems to be a word used almost exclusively to refer to the misalignment of bodies, or parts of the body, from their proper place. it's distinctly anatomical. you don't say "i dislocated my keys" for instance, even though that's technically a correct and coherent sentence.

#i cried both times#first time was my first apartment on my own and i was actually really lonely#despite having friends in the neighborhood and my cousin living like 30min away#and knowing i could pop iver for dinner if i asked#but i had never lived alone befofr#always had family or dorm-mates around#and yea my apartment was connected to the landlord's house but i didnt know them all that well#now i live in a studio in a city i had never even visited befote moving#i got a job in my dream career and took a huge risk cuz i knew 1 person in the entire city#i cried from the stress of moving and the fear of being so lonely again#but it all turned out okay cuz i made friends with my coworkers and love my job

"Don't use Libby because it costs libraries too much, pirate instead" is such a weird, anti-patron, anti-author take that somehow manages to also be anti-library, in my professional librarian-ass opinion.
It's well documented that pirating books negatively affects authors directly* in a way that pirating movies or TV shows doesn't affect actors or writers, so I will likely always be anti-book piracy unless there's absolutely, positively no other option (i.e. the book simply doesn't exist outside of online archives at all, or in a particular language).
Also, yeah, Libby and Hoopla licenses are really expensive, but libraries buy them SO THAT PATRONS CAN USE THEM. If you're gonna be pissed at anybody about this shitty state of affairs, be pissed at publishing companies and continue to use Libby or Hoopla at your library so we can continue to justify having it to our funding bodies.
One of the best ways to support your library having services you like is to USE THOSE SERVICES. Yes, even if they are expensive.
