Facing a financial crisis in the '90s, the Italian fashion brand Gucci sought the help of Tom Ford, a young American designer, to rescue the ailing fashion house. Instead of relying heavily on Gucci’s famous monogram to deliver the brand's identity, Ford did the opposite, now working with more uniform colors and raw materials. His plan was to transform Gucci into a forefront leader of chic fashion and create a new look that would appeal to a more modern audience.
