Just listened to all bar luke. Everything abt it is so sad imo
Yep v tragic but isn’t it great? I genuinely think it’s some of his best writing.
Spoilers below cut
Love the happy ending in the Xmas special though, and the gf in the end being the only other voice we ever hear in the series is perfect.

I watched How I Met Your Mother the first time round so I’m aware of its many flaws.
But having just rewatched the whole thing again: One of those flaws is Marshall not paying up to Lily until the day of Ted and Tracy’s wedding. Should have been about 6 years earlier.
Another weird bit of writing is a moment later where Lily talks about Ted’s emotional endurance and ‘it was a long difficult road, thank god we finally got here’ for Tracy to then die 3 years(?) later in the next 30 seconds. That does not fit the theme of those words.
Also Tracy having no friends at the wedding is a problem. Why would Lily be her maid of honour???
And obviously everyone knows and hates the emotional whiplash of dead Tracy - showing their (perfect) meeting - present day sad dad Ted saying ‘and that kids is how I met your mother’ - French horn Robin.
I’d have been fine with them going for the dark dark ending of them meeting at the train station and Ted saying ‘and that kids is how I met your mother’ for the tear your heart apart angst factor. Although it makes a rewatch really depressing when from about series 5 or 6 onwards Ted feels so lonely a lot of the time.
I even quite like Ted and Robin as a couple and the theme of things coming back together. Of course they executed the concept badly in the series with the Robin-Barney taking up way more seasons than Robin-Ted. But I think that’s due to the writers needing to change the emphasis of the show due to Barney’s popularity as a character.
I mean obviously don’t do it right after killing off Tracy and showing their meeting. You can’t do the whiplash in the last 5 mins. At the very least that cut scene with Ted and Robin with the restaurant would have helped. I also sort of wish they’d kept the scene or image from Tracy’s funeral which apparently existed. If they were going to bring them back together it either needed to have been dealt with at the start of season or Ted-Tracy needed to be wrapped up an ep earlier (but the whole series should have ended with Tee meeting the mother).
I just also can’t get over how much the last season is such a thematic mess. 22 episodes on the wedding and I’m sure the writing logic was that it’s where Ted and Tracy met (although the out-of-universe reason has got to be that they couldn’t move the series forward in time any further without Ted meeting the mother because the kids would need to be born soon). But it meant so much emphasis was put on the wedding and if they were going to do that why not at least properly foreshadow the reasons Robin and Barney wouldn’t actually work. I mean Robin was unsure pre-wedding but they broke up because their lives didn’t work with Robin’s job.
Although I think if you look at the Robin-Barney relationship was always a mess - it’s just they spent a lot of eps in the series separate pining for each other. But the first time round their relationship made each other miserable. Then each separately was into the other. And then Barney sociopathically proposed while they weren’t even dating (and hadn’t dated since they’d been miserable the first time round if I remember correctly). So actually it does make sense Robin and Barney didn’t work. It’s just spending 22 eps on them working out their problems pre-wedding really changed the emphasis.
I also feel like they came up with the concept of Ted needing to let Robin go at some point in the later series when this hasn’t been an issue before.
Also Lily and Marshall were annoying by the end. I can see why Jason Segel wanted out - after they got married their storylines were Marshall switching between Corporate and Environmental Law over and over again, moving house issues, and Lily’s pregnancy. There must have been more but I really can’t remember any of it.

I just re-listened to Episode 50 of Elis James and John Robins on Radio X, recorded in January 2015.
The phone-in topic was things you’ve fluked or managed to pull off which weren’t seen or caught on camera.
About 46 mins in Elis read out one from someone who said they’d managed to throw a teabag across the room and into the cup.
Then Elis said throwing a teabag is hard and John says it’s not a thing and they spoke about it for a mo.
So anyway Alex Horne definitely listened to this episode and nicked this idea for Series 1 of Taskmaster which was on tv 6 months later.

Just waxing lyrical about your last paragraph in the last Ask answer on here which I agree with a lot . This weekend has been bad but even worse knowing for a fact that Brand isn’t the tip of the proverbial iceberg and a lot of them deliberately build wholesome images to duck being held accountable
Sorry to never have replied to this ask.
I think I’d said I hate the idea that I’m unknowingly supporting abusers, which is obviously still true.
I listen to All Killa No Filla podcast and from that I really thought a comedy Me Too expose was going to happen.
I suppose these things take time - the RB doc / article was a long time in the making and was obviously watertight from a legal pov, so maybe a wider exposition is to come once the legals are sorted.
I guess the Hollywood Me Too was hampered by the huge levels of money, power and pr involved. The UK comedy scene is on such a lower level - with fairly minimal links to the USA - that it seems like a Me Too movement would be effective. Although our libel laws are on the side of the accused, so I hope for more RB-type investigative journalism.
Until then - I suppose going by who women in the industry are friends with and seem to feel comfortable working with at least gives an indication of which men at least aren’t widely known as being awful. Not a foolproof method - and you’re right about image building - and of course women in the industry don’t and can’t be expected to know all of the people who are awful - but at least it rules out the obvious RBs and DWs.
I do think it seems significant that RB was basically on the fringe of the UK comedy scene in recent years, although I don’t know if that’s because people were unwilling to work with him, he thought he was beyond it after his time in Hollywood or if it was because he’d gone down the conspiracy nut route.

An unfinished and not fully accurate timeline of the NMJ Lads 2000-2012 (Tim-centred tbh)
Summer 2000: Alex goes to Edinburgh with 'How To Avoid Huge Ships'
Academic year 2000-2001: Mark in year ? of uni, Alex in his final year of uni year of uni, Tim has just graduated. Tim decides to do a play because he didn't do one in his final year at uni.
Alex was also doing stand up in another strand of Footlights (I think, idk how it works)
2000 (Cambridge, term 1)- Alex writes a panto of Treasure Island, Tim auditions and gets a role. Performances are late Nov-early Dec. Tim also auditioned for Bouncers by John Godber. He got both roles and fortuitously decided to do the panto.
(I don't think Alex and Tim became close yet)
2001 (Cambridge, term 2) - Tim does the Spring Review (sketch show) and starts to write a bit (was Mark in this??)
2001 (Cambridge, term 3) - Tim and Mark audition to be in the Footlights Summer Tour, which is what Emma Thompson, High Laurie et al did. They perform at Edinburgh and are nominated for Best Newcomer. It's directed by [friend who still directs plays w Tom Basden]
I don't know if the Spring and Summer sketch show / team are/were the same as each other but Tim conflates the whole year into one when telling any stories about it. Not sure either if they figured out about Tim not being a student during the Spring or the Summer.
2002: Tim and Dinky Donk contribute to an EP of Concrete Cow sketch show on Radio 4
Tim and Mark move to London. IIRC Tim moved back to Cambridge after a bit (maybe after losing his job at Hamley’s?), not sure when he moved back to London - suspect 2003/2004 as he’s still doing stuff in Cambridge at that point.
2002: Mark wins the Telegraph Open Mic Award. Tim's stand up career starts and ends in the space of 10 ok to terrible gigs
2003: Making Fish Laugh - Alex’s first solo show (Tim as assistant). Nominated for Best Newcomer
2003: Alex is on Brain Candy on BBC3 (stand up variety show)
2003: Mark and Tim direct the Footlights tour show(?) Starring some future Inbetweeners
2004: Mark's first 24 hour show (Tim as assistant). Mark gets engaged. Mark also does a show with Rhod Gilbert.
2004: Alex's second show Every Body Talks (Tim as assistant)
2004: Tim performs Luke and Stella at Edinburgh
2004: Mark's first novel is published
2004ish: Tim starts writing poems
2005: Alex gets married
2005: Mark does his first solo show and another 24 hour show
2005: Mark is nominated for Best Newcomer
2005: Alex’s third show When in Rome (Tim as assistant)
At some point Tim lives with Alex (and wife?)
2005-2007 (?): Tim performs in Cowards in Edinburgh (they also did it in London and in early days Alex, Mark and Rick Edwards were involved)
2006: Mark wins the inaugural Edinburgh Panel Prize and Time Out Critics Choice Award. He is nommed for the Barry Award (Melbourne)
2006: Mark starts appearing on Mock the Week and other panel shows
2006-2008 (+Xmas 2009): Tim adapts All Bar Luke for Radio 4
2006-2007 Alex and Dinky Donk try to meet someone from every nationality. I don't know if they get a show out of this!
2006: Mark and Tim are in Time Trumpet
2007: Mark writes 2 pilots. One stars Tom Basden and the summary sounds suspiciously like Tim's life at that time
207: Mark starts his Radio 4 show with Tim and Basden
2007: We Need Answers at Edinburgh
2007: Alex's fourth show Birdwatching at Edinburgh
2007: Tim’s first solo show Slut In The Hut in Edinburgh. It is produced by new comedy company The Invisible Dot, which is Tim’s comedy home until 2016ish.
2007: Herb McGwyer (nominated for Best Short Film BAFTA in 2008)
2007: Tim lives with his brother
2007ish: Cowards on the radio
2008: We Need Answers (2) at Edinburgh
2008: Alex's fifth show Wordwatching at Edinburgh
2009: Tim’s second solo the Slutcracker show in Edinburgh. He wins the Edinburgh Comedy Award.
2009: Mark does The Hotel immersive (hey there recent Taskmaster Ep)
2009: We Need Answers on TV
2009: Birdwatchingwatching by Alex and Tim's first poetry book are published
2009: Cowards on BBC4
2010: Taskmaster in Edinburgh (1)
2010: The Horne Section begins
2010ish: Tim joins the Alan Partridge world
2010: Tim is in Party by Tom Basden on Radio 4
2011: Taskmaster in Edinburgh (2)
2012: Tom start Tim Key's Late Night Poetry Programme
2008-2012(ish): Tim lives in a box room in Limehouse. During this time he wins the Edinburgh Comedy Award and is on TV quite a bit. He said during ep 1 of Taskmaster that he had no space for anything but kept the lintel(?) From his Edinburgh show. In the Taskmaster podcast Josh said Tim implied he was homeless but he would have been referencing the fact that he had a box room’s worth of living space (I included this because Josh thought Tim was lying in the show but i’m pretty sure he wasn’t).

I've been doing a timeline of Tim, Mark and Alex's early years because I'm mentally ill and found this pilot Mark wrote in 2007.
Here's the summary:
Martin (Tom Basden) is an out-of-work actor. He moves in with his younger brother Craig (Tom Price), a loaded advertising exec, and his girlfriend, in their swanky flat in Manchester. They are both lovely people but, as Martin discovers, they make a nightmare couple to share with!
Craig shares his posh flat with girlfriend Millie (Abigail Burdess) and they're hopelessly in love, while Martin is hopeless with women and has no money. Craig and Millie seem the perfect couple, forever making up silly songs and fighting only to make-up with exuberant sex. Millie is trying her hand at life-coaching and decides to help Martin by match-making him with her neurotic client, Antonia.
To fund his creative ambitions, Martin works at a call centre with frumpy Lyn (Sara Crowe) and nerdy Hugo (Marek Larwood). Lyn fancies Martin, while Hugo fancies himself as the most efficient employee on the planet.
I don't want to make everything about Tim, but around this time Tim was an out of work actor with no money who moved in with his brother and his wife, who were doing very well for themselves. Hmmmm.
Funnily enough I know this about him because of Tim being on Tom Price's podcast.
P.s. This is the worst name for a TV show I've ever seen

There was a scene in Cowards where the gag was that someone had a tattoo of an orange on their arm. When I saw Alex’s tattoo I meant to go back and look if it was Tim to see if maybe it was real or if it was based on Alex but never got round to it.
saw something recently (god knows i’ll never find it again) where key says, verbally mind you, that he has one tattoo.
now listen, he also told frank skinner he was left handed and he certainly isn’t. so. i have no way of knowing when he’s point blank lying for fun or not.
also keys wig/not wig in s4 e12 of nmj ? i do not think it’s a wig. i can’t fucking tell who’s joking or not.

I think we need to be very careful about conflating two accounts: one of repetitive abusive and predatory behaviour towards young female fans and younger female colleague where the individual has made threats to people of what will happen if they out him and another one of someone who’s messed people around and had an affair but is not anywhere near the same level of accusation.
Yes very true of course- clumsy to have put that all in one post

I think it’s M*rk
Are you speaking from a place of knowledge?
From context and their obvious past-but-no-longer closeness I think he’s likely the one who was emotionally cheating with her.
With no knowledge myself, the identity of the person relating to the other stuff seems a lot woolier given that the other anon said she was talking about a Danish comic.
With M, I can’t tell if I’m going too far in giving benefit of the doubt based on persona though - separate to the Sofie stuff, the affair when his wife was pregnant did throw me tbh, 3 years is a hell of a mistake.
After this weekend, I do really want to know some of the other people to beware of in the comedy world because I hate the idea that I’m supporting their stuff and it obviously goes way further than Brand.

The 16 year old was heavy implied to be the Danish man and then the discussions on social forums in Danish matched a lot of it all up with some known Danish men. There are reddit threads still running about his identity. The affair with the British man was after this time and he was not the married comedian who was sleeping with many women some of fans and young aged also. I think the sexless affair was with the British man. Sorry that I was not clear in the first message!
Thank you! This is potentially very comforting (although still awful of course)
