Mental health origami. Oops, my hands slipped 30 times and I made another kusudama.
This new one I decided not to use glue on and see how it holds up. The answer is "perfectly." The internal pressure of the thing keeps it stable.
Made a peacock out of the remaining paper. And got my hands messy with whatever blue dye is on this very cheap foil paper. I need to stick to simple folds with this particular paper.

But Couldn't You Protest More Conveniently (so we can ignore you)?
And, no. The answer to all this hand-wringing about the scary, uncivil college students is: no, if they sit down and shut up like you want, it's not much of a protest, so they will continue being loud and making you uncomfortable. You're complicit in a genocide and they're complicit in a genocide, and it should be uncomfortable. If you can ignore it and go on about your business, it won't stop.
This has been the playbook for a long time. The righteousness of civil disobedience is assigned retroactively. While it's going on, we just HATE it. Later, we can edit the narrative so that the counterculture was, actually, the culture, and only the worst people were against it. You know, if we feel like it.
I should mention, this is why we have a student loan crisis. Reagan responded to student protests by attacking their pocketbooks, assuming, like a cowardly conservative, that a threat that would shut him up would shut them up. Well, they're paying more than ever for the "privilege" of a degree that most entry-level positions will require of them, and they're still functioning as the conscience of the country. They're still not tired and scared and hopeless enough to let these things go without a fight.
It's a hard lesson to learn, but when you make yourself more convenient, you make yourself less relevant. Don't listen to all these voices insisting that the only way to get what you want is to ask nicely. So often, that won't get you anything at all.

DO SOMETHING
Let me get this out of my brain, it's been there for a few days, festering:
Pregnant people are becoming "radioactive." A pregnant person might have a miscarriage or need an abortion to save their life, and either of those things could send a doctor to jail now. So it's easier to just not treat them. Lack-of-treatment means more miscarriages and deaths. This, from the right-to-life folks.
And the response:
Let the corrupt Supreme Court make it worse...
...and demand voters elect a congress "that supports their right to choose"...
...because we can't do anything now. And there's no plan in the works to fix the filibuster, so he'll require THIS congress. Biden needs you to deliver the Blue Wave of Obama's first term, for Biden's second term, minus the Manchins and Sinemas who'll jump ship at a whisper of progressivism, while there's a genocide going on that he okayed, and THIS TIME, democrats have learned their lesson and will fight for your rights instead of fighting each other so the conservative ones still get elected in their purple districts. (Gee, we could theoretically pass anything... How 'bout Romneycare?)
And if they don't deliver a law that gets past both houses of congress and the same Supreme Court that struck down Roe v. Wade in the first place, the consequences will be...? What? I know a lot of people will die, but I mean the consequences for the politicians and their power. 'Cos I'm seeing a long string of elections where the only option to "save democracy" is to Vote Blue No Matter What. So what are we gonna do? Egg their houses? Even that's uncivil!
We're still operating as if the system is fair and functional and we can fix this by working within it at the most apathetic level possible.
Pregnancy is notoriously time-sensitive. In many cases it may be as urgent as Palestine's need to eat. People will die while this issue is being shunted into the future as an excellent way to get votes. People have already died. Some people will need to die for the sake of the win, and this time they may be near enough for you to see them, and care about them as individuals. It's been like this for two years and we had advance notice the Supreme Court was going to do it to us. Please tell me what's going to change. Something more than "if you don't elect THAT MANY democrats, its YOUR FAULT."
I can't fix this on my end. I'm distant and small. We couldn't come up with any better way to stop being complicit than to take our money out of the system, but the cost is that I'm easier to ignore. I don't know what to do. But I hate how it is.
I hope something, somehow, falls into place and fixes this. But I don't trust it to just do that because they say they want it. To have hope, I need to see ideas for change, not more of the same.

It's a data point of one, but it's still eerie that the first time Wy decides to even just half-pass as masc, some effective healthcare falls out of a doctor who hasn't provided it before. It's as if Wy has unlocked the secret of a Dr. McNinja-style Moustache Of Authority.
I've let xem know that if they need any more guidance on how to effectively present as masc, then they should probably ask someone other than me, because I really have no idea about how it all works.
Would You Give This Man Healthcare?
Tumblr media
I have a sample size of one on this, so any celebration is premature, but in this case the answer was: YES.
Also:
MY EYES ARE FUCKED! I KNEW THEY WERE FUCKED FOUR MONTHS AGO, BUT I FINALLY GOT YOU TO ADMIT IT, YOU PATRONIZING PIECE OF SHIT. I COULDN'T HAVE WIPED THAT SMILE OFF YOUR FACE FASTER IF I SLAPPED YA!
I'm not a fan of a flat, masc look. It's like nuggets with no sauce. I've NEVER gone out like this. I haven't done drag like that since high school, and then only to liven up presentations.
This is low effort. I'm not good at it. If you startle me, I'll start acting like I don't belong in the space and I'm grateful you're allowing me - preforming female to the best of my impaired ability, in other words. But I made a conscious effort to take up space and stop fucking smiling at everyone all the time like I know they want.
This isn't necessarily the only factor. The eye thing has gone unaddressed for four months and, judging from the reaction, it's too bad to ignore now. I don't have any double-blind data on this, but last time it was: "Woooow, your eyes are super dry!😀 Are you using the eye drops?" "They made it worse." "That's weird, those are really good drops.😀Just keep doing what you're doing!" This time it was: "Your eyes are on FIRE. You need steroid drops NOW, and come back as soon as you're done with those so I can figure out what's going on.😕"
There's an autoimmune disorder that's often comorbid with the one I've already had diagnosed, it causes your body to underproduce fluids. I do have the chronic acid reflux and vaginal dryness that would go with it. I'd really like to confirm a diagnosis if that's a factor! I dunno how dry my eyes were before the surgery - I'm autistic, my body and I barely speak to each other. They didn't bother me then. The blurriness bothers me now, but I still don't notice the dryness so much. The dryness is apparently significant enough to end an eye appointment with no exam and an instant prescription, though.
Either way, I've confirmed my eyes are fucked. I have an excuse for not illustrating and for getting so frustrated I'd like to throw the computer at the wall when I try. Heh. Well, I'll pick up the drops ASAP and we'll see what I get when I go back in two weeks.
I shouldn't be this happy to hear I have a severe health issue, but the spouse reminds me, I KNOW I have severe health issues. I'm just thrilled when I can get someone to ACKNOWLEDGE it.
And TREAT it, maybe? We'll see! I know what I'll be wearing for my follow-up!

The Quiet Part is Getting Louder
Here we have someone trying to primary a "squad"-aligned progressive Dem for being anti-genocide (in the most pro-Biden way possible!) and supporting the "uncommitted" protest votes. Because Trump. Also because Israel = Judaism, don't wanna leave the whole dual-loyalty thing out. Both sides are excusing the genocide and plugging antisemitic lies, that's where the Overton Window is at the moment. Even supporting Biden but maintaining that the genocide should stop is dangerous and suspicious.
So, here's the damage. People are silencing dissent (their own and that of others) because they want the Democrat to win. Because the Democrat MUST win to save democracy. So we're saving a "democracy" where dissenting against the ONE PARTY that MUST WIN is ANTI-DEMOCRACY. It's so fragile, dissent could END THE UNITED STATES.
Gee, that sounds like treason. Is dissent treason yet? We're dancing around the way it's phrased, but we're quietly treating it as if it's so. In big ways and little ways. Every time you ding someone for not being pro-Biden enough in their dislike of genocide, or for making sure their method of protest - FIRST AND FOREMOST! - won't hurt Biden's chances of winning.
If it's all about Biden winning, folks, Summer Lee and a lot of other progressives have got to sit down, shut up, or leave. These are the people that would support those progressive policies Biden wants (and so often fails) to push through, from the congressional level all the way down to your local school board. Taking a stand against genocide will knock down their numbers, and replace them with "centrists" who are willing to let it slide. And also willing to let a lot of other things slide.
So, what? Maybe progressives should quiet down about the genocide so they can all stay in office and keep reducing the harm, right? Maybe all of us should.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Play "Silence the Dissent to Save Democracy" and win Fascism. No matter who wins, if that's HOW they win, the democracy is over. You won't be able to vote it back to life. Voting in lock-step for one party in perpetuity for God (or Good) and Country isn't democracy. You can't save democracy that way.
I can't understand why the voices insisting that's the ONLY way to save it are so damn loud. I just... What's happened to you? Is there no way to make it un-happen?
