anyway wrt actual LOTR canon: Hobbit society 100% is pro monarchy but also anti big government. historically they were nominally subjects of the King of Arnor (they were given the Shire to live in at his behest) but were largely left to govern themselves.
when the Kingdom of Arnor fell apart they appointed a regent called the Thain to take the place of the king but the Thain is a largely ceremonial positio.n who only has actual authority in (extremely rare) times of war
they also have a mayor (full title Mayor of Michael Delving) which is an elected position. Buckland (where the Brandybucks are from) is socially part of the Shire but politically speaking actually a separate self-governing country run by a feudal lord.
in practice however each individual hobbit family manages its own affairs. the various gentlehobbit families such as the Tooks and Bagginses have a formal head of the family who is in charge. it's implied that wealthy hobbits are typically landowners who have a degree of at least nominal authority over their territory (see: Tookland) but the text doesn't get into this too much.
hobbit society seems to very strongly value both tradition and people being able to manage their own affairs. they are on board with having a king but would be horrified if said king ever tried to actually interfere with their business.
as a side note, a fun (?) fact is that Bilbo Baggins was actually the head of the Baggins family until he left the Shire for good at which point the position passed to Frodo. if you read between the lines a bit this is probably part of the reason why ownership of Bag End is so contentious.
also reading between the lines, we can infer logically that ownership of Bag End also extends to owning at least the rest of the hill and possibly some more of hobbiton? as Lotho Sackville-Baggins was able to do things like evicting families and demolishing houses after buying it.
anyway with deepest regret i must report that not only are Bilbo and Frodo Baggins landlords, Frodo is almost certainly Sam's landlord. sorry. :(

Ok it's very funny to laugh at Tuxedo Mask for showing up and doing nothing, but his job was never to actually fight the monsters.
His job was just to show up and believe in Sailor Moon so overwhelmingly resolutely that she remembers she's a fucking demigod long enough for HER to fight the monsters.
Because she's the only one strong enough to do it in the first place, and in this regard Tuxedo Mask is the first example of being "Kenough" in this essay I will

Mommy needs to be honest kitten. You're not a kitten, you're a puppy, I know. Actually, that's exactly what I wanted to talk to you about. You've let this whole puppygirl thing completely take over our sex life and to be honest it's not really clear to me that you really enjoy it anymore. You really seem stuck in a short-term hedonic spiral from posting about it on tumblr and getting likes. And I know it's hard to get out of that kind of thing but it's really been getting out of control. You said "we're trying for puppies" to my best friend of 15 years. Seriously? How the fuck am I supposed to live that down? No one was laughing. The room was dead silent and I wanted to sink into the floor. And this was days after I was crying my eyes out over the infertility stuff. So you came across as kind of an asshole on top of it. Yeah, I know you didn't mean it like that but you can only point to "bourgeois morality" so many times before it starts to feel like you're just saying "I'm sorry you got offended" you know? Like every time I try to express that some basic social decorum is necessary to preserve relationships I care about you start misquoting Bakunin. And like look you have a lot of positive qualities but I don't think this is working anymore. We both know it hasn't been good for a long time.

This problem is nothing new, but this specific example with these numbers puts it into a fucking brutal perspective.
To put these numbers a different way: A Taco Bell burrito that used to cost ~7 minutes and 20 seconds of minimum wage work now costs ~30 minutes and 30 seconds of minimum wage work.
You used to be able to work at Taco Bell anywhere in the country and make enough money in one hour to buy at least 8 burritos (maybe 9 if you're a manager or something) and feed, like, 3-4 people a decently-filling meal. But now, the same amount of work at the same job will get you one meal for one person. And this change has happened over a mere 15 years.
Remember this whenever you see rich people demonize younger generations for our financial situations, when they call us irresponsible for not investing a ton of money in savings accounts.

Remember that the calls for the national guard to intervene are calls to use state violence against Palestinian, Jewish, Arab, Muslim and other pro-Palestine students. They’re calling for deadly violence against Jews in the name of “anti-antisemitism.”

It is never too late to learn to speak Irish.
You do not have to be Irish to speak Irish.
Once you're out of school, there is no grammar police and most people are just excited to have someone to speak Irish with.
Incorporating Irish words into your day when you're not fluent (I have to go to the leithreas, throw it in the bruscar, that's a gorgeous gúna) is an act of decolonisation.
Helping people to understand the language is an act of love.
Gaeilge go deo ❤️

I love animals that are, like, the opposite of cryptids: we know for a fact they exist and have a clear idea of what they look like because we have photographs and individual specimens, but we haven’t the faintest idea where they’re coming from - they just keep showing up out of nowhere, and the locations of their actual population centres are a complete mystery.
