Hi tumblr friends....its been a while...how have you been?
I’ve been great and thinking a lot about trying to give back and do good with photography. I’ve started a small photo book press called Reciprocity Press with the aims of using profits from book sales to give back to non-profit organizations doing good work that aligns with the subject matter of the book. The first book is a series of photos I shot of small shops and storefronts at night in Vietnam. They are only $25 and all profits will go toward the Vietnam Association of Victims of Agent Orange.
If you want to buy a copy pleas go HERE
thanks
xo

WELCOME OUTSIDE: 4 #wildernessculture Is the idea of "wilderness" a human construct? Did our current idea of "wilderness" exist in non-western cultures or even pre-industrial revolution? "The movement to set aside national parks and wilderness areas followed hard on the heels of the final Indian wars, in which the prior human inhabitants of these areas were rounded up and moved onto reservations. The myth of the wilderness as “virgin ” uninhabited land had always been especially cruel when seen from the perspective of the Indians who had once called that land home. Now they were forced to move elsewhere, with the result that tourists could safely enjoy the illusion that they were seeing their nation in its pristine, original state, in the new morning of God’s own creation. The removal of Indians to create an “uninhabited wilderness”—uninhabited as never before in the human history of the place—reminds us just how invented, just how constructed, the American wilderness really is. " from William Cronon's great essay "The Trouble With Wilderness " #warmspringsreservation #oregon #confederatetribesofwarmsprings #wasco #tenino #paiute

The website for the #rei1440project states "there are 1,440 minutes in a day. Let's spend everyone of them outside" By that logic all the homeless people in the #pnw and #upperleftusa are the true adopters of the 1440 Project. Remember, your health, your ability to be mobile and travel, your ability to have leisure time, having the financial resources to spend on gear and entrance fees to parks so that you can #liveauthentic are all privileges that are not afforded to everyone. Mother Nature is amazing but she never signed up to sell stuff so that you can #neverstopexploring #archcape #oregon #pacific #basalt

WELCOME OUTSIDE: 2
Where and when does the #pnwcollective meet? Do they haze new members? Do you think they use a consensus based decision making process? What happens if you stop #neverstopexploring ? Is it still "exploring" if it is a well marked and established trail in a designated state or national park? Remember in 1803 before the Louisiana Purchase when Ohio was considered #upperleftusa ? #exploregon

What is a hashtag? how does a set of abstract nonspecific words relate or not relate to a specific physical place? What does it mean to attach and apply all of these meaningless words to a specific place but not give the name of that place that has existed for a long time?
