I used to believe that we have to work ourselves to absolute exhaustion in order to reach any level of success. And I did for a very long time. Growing up around people with a scarcity mindset required me to do a lot of work to shift that belief. But I've learned that to make significant progress in any area of life, we don't always need to work our butts off. Instead, we can use the power of leverage. Once we truly grasp that fact, we can make significant progress with a lot less effort. In business, we can create systems, streamline processes and hire staff to increase our output while working less. When it comes to money, we use investments to leverage our time and build wealth faster. As a child, I used to have severe Asthma and had a couple of really close calls... When I was about 8, it had gotten so bad that my parents took me to a number of doctors and specialists to get different opinions on how to best treat it. They all wanted to put me on a permanent treatment plan and have me carry an inhaler everywhere I went. They told me to take it easy and sit down at the first sign of exhaustion. No strenuous exercise, school sport, running etc... Apparently, there was no cure for Asthma and it could only be managed with life-long prescriptions. Well, I didn't really like the sound of that. I had a great passion for martial arts and wanted to make it go away, not manage it. When I was 10, I had the crazy idea of going to China for a year to practice Kung-Fu. That's a longer story, but fast forward a little, I ended up going on that trip and did pretty much the exact opposite of what the doctors had told me. 🤷‍♂️ For an entire year, I trained to my absolute limits for 8 hours per day, 6 days a week. I enjoyed a much healthier diet (mainly vegetables and rice) and enjoyed fresh air high up in the mountains. And guess what... After that year, my Asthma was completely gone! Something I was told by experts was impossible. This has taught me an incredibly important lesson at a young age. You can get the best professional advice from experts in their field, but it can still be the wrong advice for you. From then on, I made the decision to always keep an open mind and listen to others' opinion, BUT to always make my own choices based on my intuition. ✨ Working closely with business owners on their marketing strategy, I've found they often have a similar experience... There is so much conflicting advice out there for what's best for their business: 👉 A web designer tells them a website is the most important thing 👉 A content writer tries to convince them that content is king 👉 A social media manager will advise to put al your effort into social media 👉 And an ads manager asks them to put all their eggs in the paid ads basket. The truth is, they may all be right... to some extent. But in my personal experience, most business owners will benefit most from a HOLISTIC approach to marketing. See, my childhood doctors never asked about my diet. They never considered the location we lived in. They always assumed there was something wrong with my body. Turns out I was suddenly thriving, simply by changing these two factors. At the end of the day, it's our responsibility to filter through the noise and seek out what works for us.
