A woman reaches under a block from the apartheid wall trying to hold the hand of her mother on the other side. Many families have become segregated after the Israeli occupation regime completed the construction of the wall which runs through Palestinian lands. This is just one of thousands of cases.

A lot of Ukrainians (me included) feel like we're talking into the void. We share news about war and current genocide, talk about our history and culture, about all the opression we lived through because of russia, russian colonialism, etc. Every single question you could possibly have about Ukraine is probably answered by multiple Ukrainians on social media already. But it seems like all of this is being shared only between Ukrainians and those foreigners who already know all those things, the people who need to learn about it won't see it. Something educational about Ukraine goes viral, you check reposts - Ukrainians and people who already engage with Ukrainian activism, no regular people who know nothing about Ukraine or "war is being shoved down our throat" crowd or whataboutists.

There is this specific kind of a massive missile attack that russia does every other day.
It always happens in the middle of the night, to make sure everyone is exhausted. It is happening right now when I’m writing this.
First, russians launch a wave after wave of iranian-made Shahed drones. If the drones enter your region, you must wake up your kids and pets and go to a bomb shelter with them.
There are usually a few dozens of these drones launched. These days, Ukrainian air defence usually can strike down most of the drones (not all of them). However, even if the air defence works successfully, parts of the drones might fall on buildings and kill someone.
Second, you get a message: “xxx russian Tu-95 airplanes took off from the Olenya airport”. This usually happens around 11pm-12am.
I fucking hate this Olenya. I wish we could burn it down with the airplanes but some of our foreign partners either don’t provide us with weapons that could reach russia, or just forbid us from using their weapons on russian territory.
Third, if there are no drones in your region (for now), you might get a little bit of sleep. Meanwhile, the Tu-95 airplanes fly to the missile launching sites.
Fourth, the Tu-95s launch their missiles. This usually happens around 2:30-3:30 am. The drones are usually still flying around.
Fifth, the missiles enter Ukrainian airspace. This usually happens around 3:30-4:30 am. This is when Ukrainian air defence begins to shoot down the missiles - sometimes successfully, other times not because our air defence still needs more aid. At this time, you must go to a bomb shelter if you’re not there already.
This part of the attack might be happening for a few hours, depending on the number of missiles launched.
Around 5-6 am a russian Mig-31k airplane (or airplanes, if they feel like it) might take off somewhere in russia. This airplane carries cruise missiles which are hard to destroy with Ukrainian air defence. Sometimes it launches the missiles, sometimes it just flies around to annoy Ukrainians. When these airplanes are in the air, we always get a nation-wide air alert.
These huge attacks are usually over around 6-7 am. If you were in the shelter, you probably haven’t gotten any sleep, and you probably need to work/study right now. Coffee sales are usually up on such mornings.
When the huge nation-wide alert is over, it doesn’t mean the danger has fully passed.
For example, many communities in the Sumy region are getting shelled every day, with civilian casualties all the time. The region is bordering russia, so it can be shelled with artillery.
Almost every day explosions sound in places more or less close to the frontline or the border, such as Chernihiv, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro regions. There are casualties, and of course they are civilians.
And of course there is the Kharkiv region. The region is bordering russia, so it was never safe, getting bombed every other day.
If you’re following the news about russian-Ukrainian war closely, you might know about the new russian offensive in Kharkiv. They are actively trying to occupy parts of the region at the moment, so the whole region is in extra danger these days. russians being russians, they keep striking places with a big number of civilians, such as a hypermarket or a printing house.
There are also Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Parts of these two regions were occupied since 2014, some parts were occupied after 2022. The rest is pretty much a 24/7 battlefield. The air alert in Luhansk region hasn’t been turned off since 2022.

Just wanted to show one recent example of what Russia has been doing to Ukraine. The city of Kharkiv, with over a million residents, is located close to Russian borders, meaning that it's difficult to defend it from air strikes. Russia has been systematically destroying it and killing its people, intensifying its attacks more and more, using the fact that most Ukrainian allies forbid us from launching our own attacks on Russian territory.
On May 25, Russian sent bombs to a hypermarket in Kharkiv. On a weekend, in the middle of the day.
That same day, it bombed the park. Before that, it hit the rest zone.
Tumblr media
And a publishing house.
Tumblr media
And the hotel.
Tumblr media
And the television tower.
Tumblr media
And so on and on. Russia specifically targets public places and areas of life to make Kharkiv a ghost city. To destroy the home of over a million people. Many, many residents are constantly dying from these attacks, including children, pregnant women, the elderly, and other most vulnerable population groups. And Ukraine is unable to hit the locations from which Russia bombs Kharkiv because it's forbidden by our own partners. It's a joke.
And it's just one city. Russian bombs and missiles are erasing towns and villages from existence entirely on a constant basis. I can't even imagine how many people and animals die as a result. It's impossible to comprehend it on a human level. Just like it's impossible to comprehend the world's indifference, where on the one hand, we have support, but on the other hand, this support is limited to not letting us lose quickly. We are under the most cruel restrictions and limitations. And as long as the greed controls the world, which is probably forever, and our partners keep having mutually beneficial relations with Russia, there is no way out of this. Just more deaths, suffering, and misery.

It's so wild to me to see under that Xiran Jay Zhao's post about the bombed ukrainian printing house comments like "I hope everyone is safe." And I get it, people are saying this out of kindness and pure consern, there's nothing wrong with it. It just shows how little coverage our war has abroad.
No, no one in Ukraine is safe. No one in that printing house was safe, in fact, 7 people died. No one in a huge hypermarket in Kharkiv on Saturday was safe, in fact, there were 18 killed and 48 injured. And all this happened in the span of only a few days.
No one is safe in territories occupied by russians because the whole family can get killed by refusing to give up their home to russian soldiers. And every time ukrainian army liberates some region, they find mass graves and torture chambers there.
No one is safe even far away from the front line and the border with russia, because missiles and drones fly all over Ukraine, and you never know when the next one will land on your house.
Hell, ukrainians aren't safe even abroad, because there's always a chance there will be some crazy russian or russian supporter who will decide to beat or kill us. And I'm not making this up.
I'm aware that I'm more safe than the people close to the front line and the border with russia or in occupied territories. I don't hear explosions every day, unlike my friend from Kharkiv. But that doesn't mean I'm completely safe. Missiles and drones fly by at least several times a week, especially at night, when I don't hear the sound of an air raid siren simply because I'm asleep.
I am not safe.
My family is not safe.
My friends all over Ukraine are not safe.
We're not safe until russia is gone from our territories. That's why we need all that ammunition and aid. War won't magically stop if our allies stop sending us weapons; that's not how it works. We'll just be more unsafe, because russia won't stop unless it is forced to.
Here's ukrainian news sources you can follow that report daily:

Reading a BBC article about how devastating Russian glide bombs are followed by "Ukraine can't stop them", except "well they can if they target the planes dropping them but US says no to hitting inside Russia" or basically get the planes they've been asking for or you know CLOSE THE FUCKING SKIES like we've been begging for years.
It makes me so fucking angry.
Articles that present Russian advances as unstoppable, their victory inevitable, that paint an image of Ukraine losing ground because of mere morale loss and fatigue and not explicit policies on the side of so called allies.
Ukraine is fighting with both hands tied behind it's back for reasons that can be easily changed. Nothing is inevitable here but gets presented as if it is. It's infuriating that there is absolute silence from Western activists.
It breaks my heart for my people and makes my blood burn with rage.

It’s so ironic how people who pride themselves on living in “the land of the free and home of the brave” turn into spineless cowards who support a brutal occupation by a genocidal regime as soon as they lose interest in a cause, don’t want to hear about it anymore, and become tired. I am specifically referring to the people who insist Ukraine negotiates for peace, and then proceed to complain that the war is getting shoved down their throats. The moral inconsistency gets to me. The words and the actions aren’t matching up.
Ukrainians are also exhausted from Russia’s invasion, more than you can ever imagine. The difference is that Ukrainians don’t have the privilege of becoming disinterested and looking away. The threat of death is always looming over the country. People can’t even go to a recreation center on a spring Sunday morning without getting hit by ballistic missiles TWICE, just like yesterday in Cherkas’ka Lozova in the Kharkiv region.
“Just negotiate and get it over with”
For anyone insisting that Ukraine negotiates with Russia, we’ve tried. Please read this long list of how Russia uses treaties and negotiations to their advantage and violates them rapidly. Not including the 400 international treaties that have been violated since 2014. Negotiating will do nothing if one party isn’t willing to honor the terms.

May all the invaders in my homeland carry sunflower seeds in their pockets. May their corpses fertilize our soil so the fields can grow again in a free, peaceful, and safe Ukraine. May the pain they cause return to them and their loved ones tenfold.
Russia is a terrorist state.
Слава Україні. Glory to Ukraine.
Героям слава. Glory to the heroes. 🇺🇦

today russians have hit the biggest printing house in ukraine, which is also one of the biggest printing houses in europe. destruction of ukrainian literature has systematically been used by russia not just in this war, but in the ussr and the russian empire as well, and is a purposeful attempt to wipe out our culture and language.

If you want to support Ukrainians, DO NOT donate to Red Cross. Can't speak about for their work in other countries, but they're useless in Ukraine. The only trustworthy international organisation I can think of is World Central Kitchen.
Donate to World Central Kitchen
Tumblr media
And it's even better to donate directly to Ukrainian organisations. Here are a few good legit places:
hospitallers.life - "Hospitallers", Ukrainian paramedics on the frontlines
savelife.in.ua - "Come Back Alive", assistance to the army
prytulafoundation.org - "Prytula Foundation", assistance to the army
starenki.com.ua - "Starenki", helping elderly people
everybodycan.com.ua - "Everybody Can", helping disabled children, elders and hospitals
uanimals.org - "UAnimals", saving animals
