Nick & June Tag Game!
So I was tagged by @potpourri-of-ecclecticism - thanks for that, SJ, I love talking about Nick and June. ❤
What’s your favorite Nick & June scene?
OMG it’s impossible to choose only one…I’m gonna pick 1 scene from each season.
Season 1: the cuddling in 1x08.
I don’t know, this scene just really got me from the beginning…the way he says ‘June’, that smile (almost as if Nick could not believe she is still there with him - I bet he thought that he could get used to this feeling easily!), how he pulls her back to bed, all of it. Everything in this scene is screaming “He loves her! A LOT!!!”, and I think this was the very first moment his feelings towards her were so obvious. He’s so soft and so in love, but the moment he realizes this, he instantly remembers that this is not a normal world, they’re in Gilead, and you can see the worry in his eyes.
Season 2: the kitchen scene in 2x12.
Among the positive scenes, this one had the biggest emotional impact on me in S2, that’s for sure (see also: crying tears of joy in the middle of my living room, looking at the gifs). I just love it so much that this time neither of them was afraid to verbalize their daydream! I mean, both had their fantasies about their little family (June in 2x02 - “We’re gonna get Hannah, we’re gonna go North!”, Nick in 2x06 - “You know I think about us. The three of us, what we could be. I think about it all the time.”), but it was stopped by either Nick or June. Now they just let themselves lost in this happy bubble, they forget about reality, and enjoy the moment when there’s only them and their love for each other.
Which scene between them did you find most heartbreaking?
Oh dear…probably the end of 2x09.
My heart still aches from this. Of course there’s a hug, there’s another ‘I love you’ from Nick, but the whole scene is bittersweet from what Nick was feeling in that moment. He met June’s husband in Canada, and thought that their relationship has simply no future. So he goes to her room, and says goodbye. The only positive thing about this is that we can see once again how good and selfless is Nick.
Also…let me just include another moment which is definitely heartbreaking, but maybe it does not seem too depressing at the first glance…you all remember when Nick and June meet again in 2x06 and he says “You scared me”.
It just shatters my heart every single time I see it, because there’s so much suffering behind those 3 words! I mean, Nick had to watch how they drag her back to this hellhole, and how she’s losing her mind, bit by bit, becoming completely numb. He tried to talk to her several times, but did not succeed, and after every failed attempt he had to go back to his room, worried and completely alone, not knowing what is happening to the love of his life, who is carrying his baby. Then he got a child bride, which was like the cherry on top. Honestly, I cannot imagine the despair he must have felt during these few weeks.
And I know, I KNOW that it’s incomparable with what June had to go through, but sometimes seeing your loved ones suffer hurts the most.
Other than Nick or June, who is your favorite character on the show?
That’s Rita, for sure! Queen of sass and definitely a Nick/June shipper, lol. I love her character and I hope we’ll see more of her in S3! Also Amanda Brugel seems to be such a cool person, really funny and amazingly talented.
