This is something I don’t think I’ve shared before. When I met Stan Lee years ago and had him sign my shield (which you can check out in my other photos) I wasn’t going to miss out on getting a comic signed as well. Unfortunately, I didn’t have enough time to source a better book and ended up picking up a cheap copy of Captain America 400, solely because on the backside of the issue it features a reprint of Avengers 4 - otherwise known as Cap’s big return and reinvention into Marvel’s silver age. ~ This story is obviously incredibly important to both Cap fans and comic history as a whole but most importantly it was written by Stan himself. I wish I had taken the time to find a better reprint though. I always hated the thick black border around the cover and shrunken artwork as a result. This is embarrassing to admit but at the time I also didn’t understand why Stan signed over the “Captain America” text instead of on a character or in some of the empty, white space. Overall, I wasn’t happy with how it turned out so I packed it away and instead focused on collecting more autographs for my shield. ~ With Stan’s passing two weeks ago I decided to pull the issue out again and give it a second look for old time’s sake. I admired how clean the signature was and upon closer inspection I realized what I now had. With his auto covering Cap’s title the cover now reads “Stan Lee Lives Again”. After seeing, hearing and reading how much Stan and his creations have meant to fellow fans all over the world, of course he does. I went into Great American Comic Con last weekend with the goal of meeting Allen Bellman, a Golden Age artist who worked on #CaptainAmerica, and having him sign my shield. I accomplished that but I also got the opportunity to escort him on stage during the Stan Lee memorial and pose for photos with him afterwards. Allen was pleasant and lively and while I was there to help him on stage he actually didn’t need my help at all. It was a pleasure to listen to his stories during the memorial. I also couldn’t pass up the chance to get some original art from him and purchased a beautiful Cap and Bucky piece he had done on a Fallen Son blank cover.
