Thinking about Mav and Rooster finding their rythm and dynamic again after so many years of bitterness and hurt.
Especially from Rooster’s part. Mav being uncertain and afraid to overstep bounderies (terrified of accidentally causing Rooster to disappear again), not knowing if Rooster still wants/needs the comfort his uncle has offered him for as long as he can remember. Sure they’ve talked it out, they’ve put the past behind them and they’re back in eachother’s lives… but how back are they really?
When Rooster was a kid, his uncle always knew how to comfort him. If he was sick or had trouble sleeping, Mav’s gentle fingers through his curls always calmed him down. A simple act of affection that always reminded him that he’s not alone and never will be as long as Mav still breathes.
So when Rooster gets badly injured and hospitalized, Mav is naturally there sitting as close to the bed as he possibly can. His hand resting protectively by Rooster’s head, but not touching him.
Ice (who is alive because I make the rules here) is sitting in another chair by the foot of the bed, watching Mav hesitate. Hesitate to comfort his godson like he used to so many years ago. His fingers hovers just inches away from the golden brown curls, the uncertainty making his hand tremble. To Mav it feels so natural to do it, even after all these years. Bradley may be older, but he is still Mav’s nephew, his godson, his kid. The only family Mav has left is in that hospital room.
It pains Ice to see Mav hesitate. To see him struggle still. But he understands as well. Mav and Rooster have to find their way back together, and a joyride in an old F-14 won’t work this time.
So should Mav do it? Stop hesitating, stop second-guessing himself, stop fearing like he’s gonna push Rooster further away?

What are your favorite top gun maverick headcanons? or just thoughts you want to share :)
These are all sorta random but also I think they're very important!
Maverick's name in everyones phone is a variation of "Mav Dad' or "Captain Dad" and no one questions it
Bob is always the designated driver except for when he's not
On the rare times when Bob does drink, he gets so plastered that he has to be carried out by Hangman and Payback while Rooster threatens him into not throwing up in the Bronco
Which speaking of the Bronco, that's Rooster's babygirl and he sits out orange cones around it when he parks so no one can accidentally scratch his paint job
Mario-Kart is banned on base ever since the Accident Of 2021 (no one likes talking about the details but there was a trip to the infirmary so, the ban was rightfully called for)
Once a month Phoenix and Halo make all the boys do face masks and gossip while a romcom plays, a tradition that they all secretly look forward to
(Maverick tries to get out of it but it never works, he like everyone else, is a total sucker for Phoenix and rightfully so)
Coyote and Fanboy are the best cooks of the group, they co-host Friendsgiving every year (Jake is not allowed to bring anything)
And after a incident that involved the fire department, anytime Hangman tries to go near a stove someone comes running with a fire extinguisher
Amelia went from having no siblings to having too many siblings in the course of a day and she's still figuring out how to handle that one (she also has the most braincells out of all of them)
No one is allowed to call the Dagger's names except for Penny, she will protect those grown men and women with her life but will also call them out on their shit like any good mama would
One time Rooster caught Hangman putting lifts in his boots, that's how Hangman ended up doing Rooster's grunt work for 2 months straight...

I love morpheus because sometimes he looks like an ethereal deity, alien in his perfection, and sometimes he looks like a middle aged man with a punk band that never got off the ground in the 90's, sitting at the bar drinking margaritas at 3pm on a Wednesday and the only thing that seems to guide his choice in the matter seems to be vibes.

Trying to figure out Halo’s character and her dynamics with the other characters, I do like the idea of her and Phoenix tag teaming the boys and her being the opposite of an angel when fired up seemed fun to me lol (hit me w/ headcanons begging 🤲🤲🤲 ) last sketch is following a tiktok audio, thought it kindaaaa suited Mav and Roo’s situation when Mav pulled his papers :(
