Some Unholy War | Theseus Scamander (III)

SUMMARY: You knew why he was on your mind. The sweater you wore was thick, not quite oversized, but spacious enough to remind you its fit was meant for its owner. Its scent exposed Theseus as the one to leave it beside the fresh towel his mother left on your borrowed quilt.

As @kalllistos knows, I've had PLENTY of thoughts around this one. I imagine something like a cat/mouse chase that's been going on, and Right when Theseus is about to catch reader, he needs to recruit her, so in another way, reader slips through his fingers!!!

So many possibilities with this one hehehe! Below is a lil progress snippet of what's been on my mind about this request.

Knowledge was power.

Sure, the sentiment had lost its so-called impact as knowledge became more accessible and polarizing. However, regardless of the phrase’s overuse, it would remain true. It welcomed a dangerous game, competition, and oftentimes mischief.

You hadn’t meant to get caught. You hadn’t meant to create a chase. You hadn’t meant to be met with an ultimatum, but you knew knowledge came with repercussions.

Life behind a desk would have been a nuisance if it weren’t for the access it provided you. The governing body of the magic world had a plethora of forgotten books, ancient books, and, most importantly, restricted books.

During your first years working in the Ministry, you hadn’t realized that the restricted ones, the untouched ones, weren’t stored with the others. It was a clever defense, but they were far too easy to find tucked away perfectly for you to stumble upon.

It was harmless at first, whispering memorized incantations to gain access. Some would consider what you did was greedy—stealing the books. Yet, others would soon learn your name and call you a much-needed zealot.

Theseus called you love.

It started as a mistake. It started before Theseus was appointed to chase you. Your pace picked up, praying the books within your charmed coat wouldn’t expose you. Looking behind you, you knew you were clocked. Then, naively, before you could realize there was another body in front of you, you barreled into their chest.

Sorry, love. The only apology Thesues would give you. He was as kind as any Hufflepuff, putting other needs first and blindly placing his kindness.

Some books spilled out as he continued his apologies while you scrambled to collect what had fallen. The small talk had begun, but the ringing in your ears drowned out as it paired with the heavy footsteps behind you.

Mahoutokoro. Sounds like an interesting read. Theseus hadn’t recognized the book, handing it to you. But he started to catch onto the commotion behind him. Before he could question it, you reached deep within your coat.

You hadn’t wanted to leave it behind, but you needed a buffer. The large, black, and silver volume was heavy as you let it fall open across the floor. A piercing, blood-curdling shriek split the silence with one high, unbroken, earsplitting note.

While others reacted, you ran and have been running since.

SUMMARY: Theseus was always talented in thinking clearly. Logically. He wanted you to be wrong, but your instincts pushed you to keep moving. It was the only way to stay one step ahead of Sinclair. It contrasted Theseus’ plan to stay put within the walls of the Ministry. You contrasted his very being.
