By the way, can we talk about how cis-washed ESO Vivec is? It's not that people can't look as masculine as ESO Vivec and still be nonbinary and intersex; they can, and the fact that Vivec has a more masculine appearance while still being nonbinary is one of my favorite things about them, because there's not much representation like that. But in ESO, they kind of went out of their way to make them look as masculine as possible and gave them a male voice actor, which like... Even the unused voice files in Morrowind are so weird and altered that they don't really have a gendered sound. I mean, you look at the character designs side by side, and the difference is DRASTIC. It's not even that they didn't consider Vivec's nonbinary and intersex identities when designing them, it feels more like they actively erased them. Even if the erasure wasn't intentional, the impact is the same as if it were.

We talk a lot about the importance of nonbinary and trans portrayals in film and tv, but we have to also start talking about how those portrayals happen in games, too.
