even though she's a side character, Rinko has one of my favorite little backstories ever. In like any other anime she'd just dress like that as a bit or a joke, but in Shirobako she explains how her style and aesthetic is a "suit of armor" she wears so she can navigate her day-to-day. Before being a badass coolheaded goth lady she was kind of a nervous girlfailure artist who ended up taking inspiration from the anime she worked on. Her outfit is literally based on a fictional anime of baseball playing magical girls that she worked on.

It doesn't matter if she looks odd or different in the rather normal modern Japanese setting. It brings her confidence, surety, and happiness. Isn't that what fashion and aesthetics are supposed to be about?
