In some mystical circles something like a rehabilitation of Satan was attempted. It seems that this idea was first formulated by Ḥallāj: Satan boasts of having served God for thousands of years before Adam's creation, and his pride in being created from fire makes him refuse God's order to prostrate himself before Adam, newly created from clay. Personal addendum to the "Did ancients actually believe in magic"; it's very likely that many ancient people considered the more complex realities of physics (Magnets, gravity, Uranium) to be a *kind* of magic, but not in the sense that it was a wizard casting Testicular Boil on miners. Even to an ancient atheist, a compass/magnet could easily just be some kind of inherent force of the universe that no one could understand or control.
Actually you're kinda describing the Renaissance conception of the term "Occult".
Agrippa explicitly refers to magnetism as an Occult phenomena, a sort of overlapping third category from both magic and natural philosophy, in that we know it's real and we know it's a natural property of some matter but we have no clue how or why it works. It's nature remains hidden.
It was kinda similar to how people use the term "Preternatural" these days. Meaning "this is natural philosophy we don't fully understand yet."

I enjoy the idea that Aphrodite was actually super horny for Hephaestus. She is the god of sexuality. She is horny for everything. But! She is also the god of beauty. That means aesthetic and practical beauty as well.
In my mind, there is a furtive child of Aphrodite and Hephaestus who is the god of beauty-as-praxis, a god of architecture and product design. They would be the patron god of autism.

Was Jesus a wizard?
In his book Ancient Jewish Magic, prof Gideon Bohak covers that exact question. He makes the argument that Jesus is not a wizard, because the nature of his abilities were intentionally portrayed as distinct from other magicians of the time.
He points towards the idea that other greco-roman practicioners could theoretically teach you how to do magic. The Rhizotomoi could teach you the knowledge of herbs and stones. Magic was a technical art to them. But! Jesus can't teach you how to turn water into wine.
Bohak argues that magic is specifically something you can learn.
There are political reasons for this! These other magical practices were competitors for the early church. Christians would argue that Christ's power was primary to magic, that all forms of magic were inherently lesser than the miracles of Christ.
This comes out of a longer tradition of what Bohak calls "Charismatic Jewish Holy Men" whose power came from a "more direct" relationship with God, due to some combination of inherent virtue and ritual purification. These guys had a philosophy you could follow, but their powers couldn't explicitly be taught.
