Indian Apophyllite is found inside gas pockets (known as vugs) within the Deccan Traps; a huge stack of cooled basalt lava flows which flooded out of the Earth鈥檚 crust around 66.5 million years ago. Today the Traps are more than 2,000m thick, and cover ~500,000 Km虏 of modern day India, though prior to erosion the geological unit is thought to have been ~3x large.

I鈥檝e been doing some field work with geologists this winter and I鈥檓 kind of amazed by how these dudes can pick up a handful of dirt and talk about it for an hour using terms I鈥檝e never heard of.
