I know the Master was all, “My existence is dependent on you and there’s a little bit of you in me and I hate that, so I destroyed everything,” but am I wrong for thinking we’re meant to read more into that? The Master, who was traumatized when forced to stare into the Time Vortex as a child, who knows what it is to be manipulated and used by the Time Lords because they find it expedient, found out it all happened to the Doctor on a far more massive scale. The Doctor, their best friend, maybe the only other being in the universe they feel love for (twisted and unhealthy though the Master tends to approach that), was horrifically abused, experimented on by the adult responsible for them, used for entire regeneration cycles upon each other, forced back to an innocent child and hurt all over again each time. And their own existence, all these lives the Master has clung to all these eons, all of it is contingent on this unfathomable violation of their best beloved. The Master saw the Doctor’s trauma and torment living in the legacy of every Time Lord, including himself, and so he destroyed all the rest, and for the first time in his existence started to hope for death himself.

He was the best star-pilot in the galaxy, and a cunning warrior. I understand you’ve become quite a good pilot yourself. And he was a good friend.
