How to spot when “Anon Hate” is fake.

1: Do they type similarly to the person who received it, or they type in such a ridiculous fashion no one would actually type in to overcompensate?

2: Are they strangely specific to the point that no one would be that invested in something they don’t like?

3: Is it so vague you don’t know exactly what point they’re trying to make?

4: Does it happen more then once to someone who has neither the following, nor the drama to warrant such hate?

5: How did the person receiving it react?

6: Did the blog make a long drawn out post about how upset it made them and show how they need to be coddled and/or protected from the mean anons?

7: Does the blog regularly try to play on the heartstrings of their followers?

8: Are the hate anons strangely timely considering the context of the blog, and/or does the blog seem to get over it really quickly considering how upset they were before?

9: Does the blog receive multiple very similar anon hate messages?

10: Does the blog get so upset about the anon hate, but still doesn’t turn off anon?

When it comes to anon hate, especially on a small blog, it does not happen as often as people make it out to be. More often then not, it’s the blog that will send themselves anonymous hate in an attempt to gain followers or attention.

I will not say actual hate never happens, because yes it does, but there’s usually a reason for it. Either the blog is popular so a lot more people see it and thus a lot more jerks. Or there is some underlying drama meaning that it’s not some random person sending it, but someone the blog has had contact with.

I have spotted so many blogs send themselves obvious anon hate, and it’s really uncool. I know that the attention is nice and people like to be drowned in affection, but it’s wrong to toy with people’s emotions like that. It also devalues the people who actually receive it.

If you do spot someone doing this, don’t be a jerk about it. Either ignore them and move on, or kindly tell them that they should probably cut it out. Let’s be respectful to everyone, including the people who try to support us when we are down. Thanks.
