If you are against BLM, you are unwelcome on my page.
If you support AllLivesMatter or BlueLivesMatter, you are not my friend.
If you think the riots are unjustified and irrational, unfollow me right now.
I am not black, but I support the black community all the way. I cannot possibly understand your pain or your suffering, but I'm with you. Now and forever.

“i am a monument to all your sins” is such a fucking raw line for a villain it’s amazing that it came from halo, a modernish video game, and not some classical text or mythos

Often I wish I had failed completely in school or in my social life. I feel like I would have deserved it for the way I am struggling in uni now. Or maybe that I'd have been better off. Because it feels like it's my fault that I've been in a standstill for two years when I can't even look at my university email address, let alone assignments or practice material without a deep fear welling up inside me. Because it feels like my previous ability of reaching good results with minimal effort were wasted on me since I obviously can't use them anymore. Because I lose motivation so quickly when things don't work perfectly immediately and others are 100x more diligent and passionate about any given topic I am currently focused on. Sometimes I feel like a poser, like I am just faking having passions and knowledge about certain topics or opinions. It's like everything I say or do is purely performative. Sometimes I wonder if my friends would be happier if I never existed. Sometimes I wish I never existed.
It took years to recognize that while it is my responsibility to get better, it is too hard for me to do alone and I am not to blame for everthing that went wrong in my life.
It took years to tell someone about my self image issues. It took years until I had people I actually opened up to. But it paid off. My friends helped me improve my social skills. My friends helped me realize who I am as a person and they are there when I need to talk. It's even through talks with one of my friends that I realized I was bi. My friends encouraged me to get diagnosed and get therapy, and while COVID has halted my ability to actually start therapy, I have been diagnosed and am on anti-depressants now.
I am not well yet, but I am on the road to improvement and I couldn't even have gone this far without others to help me. There is no shame in reaching out to someone. If possible and you feel comfortable with it, involve a mental health specialist. There is no shame in getting professional help either.
one fairly common experience of gifted children is wishing for pain. wishing you had some great big horrible thing in your past so that you can justify the pain you’re in, and so that you’ll deserve help. it’s exhausting and it fucks you up and to anyone out there who feels like they haven’t suffered enough to get help: you’re allowed to want help. you’re in enough pain. you deserve to feel better

A Statistics teacher in Gotham makes a graph comparing times when Bruce Wayne goes on long vacations with times Batman gets beaten up really badly by villains to illustrate to his class how correlation does not equal causation.

“National Geographic called me and asked me to write the feminist facts about how The Lion King gets lion pride dynamics all wrong. I happily complied. Lions are matrilineal!!
When I contacted Craig Packer, one of the world’s leading lion researchers, to talk  about this story he was IMMEDIATELY AVAILABLE. He Skyped me almost instantly from a camp in Kenya and said he’s been waiting for someone to ask him this question since the original film came out.
Anyway, if The Lion King were real, Nala would be the star, Sarabi would be holding her up saying everything the light touches is our kingdom, Simba would have left and never come back, and when Nala got old enough Sarabi would have carved out a territory for her to rule.”

In real life, Simba’s mom would be running the pride

You know what’s more fun than worldbuilding that makes some fantasy races EEEEVIIIIIIILLLLL!!!!? Worldbuilding that gives the different races cultural differences that help explain why there’s a lot of conflict between them:
Goblin culture doesn’t have a concept of “Property”. A stick on the ground and a tool in a locked shed are equally up for grabs if a thing needs doing. They casually take and leave things all over their communities, eat from communal pots, and genuinely Do Not Understand why the Core Races are so Angry and prone to Violence all the time.
Consequently Goblins who live near Core communities develop a reputation as “Thieves” despite not even having a *word* for that. (The closest word they have is more like “Greedy” and it means a person that hides things so nobody else can use them, and it’s a surefire fight-starter to call a Goblin that)
Common Orc Spiritual beliefs hold that a Soul can only grow stronger by overcoming Challenges in life, and see intruding on another person’s Challenge unasked for as not just Rude, but Deeply Harmful. You’re Stealing their chance to Grow. Asking for help is deeply personal and doing so can be both a way to grow closer with them or a too-personal intrusion, depending on your existing relationship with them. An exception is Children, as far as most Orcs are concerned, all Children are fundamentally the responsibility of the Whole Community, regardless of whose child they are, or even if said child is an Orc at *all*.
This means that Orcs who live near Core neighbors often seem Rude and Standoffish if not outright hostile, because they neither ask for nor offer aid even in times of trouble, and respond to unasked for aid themselves with Anger. There are even rumors that they Steal Children, because if an Orc finds a child lost in the woods they’re pretty much immediately going to start feeding it, and if they can’t find where to bring it back to, or it doesn’t seem to be well cared for, they’re just gonna keep it.

Really helpful! I am in uni studying programming and design so this is a life saver. Usability is already a huge topic that needs a lot of thought behind designs when they DON'T mention disabilities and this is a strong reminder how kften they fall by the wayside. I am pretty sure they only mentioned disabilities concerning vision in the course I had to take. I will try to bring up to my professor that a bigger focus on disability as a factor that goes into designing a program/website/user interface would be appreciated. I don't know if he will make a change but he has been a person who revised his lectures based on student feedback in the past so maybe it will have an effect.
