What she means: The reason Dr. Doofenshmirtz smothers Vanessa is because he understands what it’s like to be given no attention or praise as a kid despite constantly wanting to impress them, and despite his achievements. He wore dresses his mother sewed to school for years, became a garden gnome for his family, even tried to win his mother’s love by learning a whole new sport, and while he was doing that built a variety of different scientific instruments far beyond any of his family’s understanding including a FUCKING ORGANIC FUSION MACHINE. His family basically disowned him after failing to complete ONE THING, jumping off the high dive, treating Rodger and Onlyson as their prize-winning perfect kin. He’s a victim of extreme neglect, and has no family anymore; after his divorce from Charlene, especially, Vanessa is all he has left, so he showers her with all of the things he wanted as a child because he loves her so much and she loved it as a kid, we know, and it must have gave Doof a sort of reprove for his terrible past but AND HER DISMISSAL OF ALL OF IT NOW THST SHE’S A MOODY TEENAGER COULD BREAK HIS HEART BUT HE KEEPS TRYING TO GET TO HER, MAKING TIME FOR HER AND KEEPING HER SEPERATE FROM WORK PAR FOR HER REQUEST, BECAUSE HE SPENT ENOUGH TIME LIVING WITH A SHITTY FATHER TO UNDERSTAND WHAT A GOOD FATHER SHOULD BE
