Finally... ennui.
I'm a graphic designer by trade, working mainly in the Adobe suite of tools, etc etc...
When all these AI image generators made their big debut, I went through the whole gamut of emotions:
awe -- machines made these amazing images?!
wonder -- the tech behind all this is just astounding!
curiosity -- who created these AI generators? why did they make them? who is their target audience? what's their endgame?
fear -- oh shit. if anyone and everyone can create images and videos with this level of quality, does that mean i'm done? have i suddenly become obsolete, overnight?
anger -- wtf!?? assholes!!
now, i'm finding myself in a state of ... ennui? maybe that's the right term? I see all these beautiful images, and i'm like, what? so fucking what? that pic's fake. that image is generated. that one's just lame. fake. fake. mmm... maybe kinda nicely done, i think? oh, no wait. fake. dumb. boring. whatever.
so, now, i'm like, build it. make it. piece it together, hammer and nails, paint and glue and tape and blood and sweat, maybe some tears, and take a picture of you standing in front of it, cuz if i don't see today's paper in your hands in front of this huge beautiful jaw-dropping creation, then i'm auto-bullshitting it.
