I ran some rough calcs with an inflation calculator and then a British pounds to USD calculator, and depending on what year in the Victorian Era you chose (I don’t feel like bothering trying to narrow it down so I tried 1837, 1850, and 1890), the value of Bryan’s debt ranges from about $170k to a bit over $200k.
He will never be able to afford a home! RIP :(
