"You call them walkers, too, huh?" Nick replied. He hadn't heard anyone call them walkers in a long time. He couldn't be sure exactly how long ago that was anymore, but he remembered the man well. "I met a man just before I got shot. He gave me a book and told me not to do what I did. I should've taken his advice, but not doing so led me here. Anyway, I passed the book on to you. It's on the nightstand, if you feel like reading. I read some of it to you while you were unconscious, but I've read it like a hundred times, so it's yours now if you want it."
He realized that he should've figured that Rick would call them the same. Morgan had said he was from out this way and was planning on going back, didn't he? He wondered if Morgan was okay. He'd been injured, but he had a strong will.
"Rick, I get it. You don't wanna tell me where they are, and that's fair. We don't tell people where we are, either. My sister trusted the wrong person once, and people died. You don't know if you have a reason to trust me. But it does sound like a time sensitive issue. An emergency, even. So... I guess I'm asking you to put your blind faith in me. For them. We're a good community. I know there are a lot of bad ones out there, but we're not. We just wanna help, and you're gonna be in this bed for a while. You're lucky to be alive."
He thought for a moment. "I'll tell you what... they know you were there. They're probably looking for you. I'll go back, and I'll talk to them if I see them. They can decide for themselves. But I do need to know who I should talk to. Just give me a name of whoever is in charge in your absence. I'll have my radio. I'll leave one with you. You can talk to them. Doesthat sound like a fair compromise?"

It had been roughly a year since Nick had been shot, found, and saved. The healing process was long and painful, but good came from the bad. He'd been reunited with someone he thought was dead before the world ended, and he found new purpose. He was doing well, now.
He was part of a thriving community, and though he wished they could have located his sister and his girlfriend, he knew that if they had survived, their paths would one day cross again. It seemed to work like that anyway. So he focused on contributing to the community that saved his life.
Once he was strong enough, he started off on runs. But the community wanted to expand, and be prepared for things like he'd experienced; the fall of whatever places they had. So he was tasked with scouting new locations for new settlements and outposts. He'd ventured further northeast, into Georgia and Virginia. There were some places that looked promising for crops.
On his search, he saw probably the second biggest horde imaginable. Troy's was pretty huge. He was ready to cross the area off the list. With a horde that big, it spelled trouble.
And then there was an explosion nearby. People? Survivors? He had spotted people, but he didn't dig deep enough to know how many people there were, or if it was a community, or just a small group. But he did head in the direction of the explosion in case anyone needed help.
And then he found a man, pretty badly injured, near a river. He loaded the guy onto his truck, and started to drive back towards the way he came. He was going to have to get this guy back to New Orleans and fast. But he'd have to patch him up somewhere safe first to make that trip.
He grabbed his radio as he drove. "Montparnasse to Home. I've got a heavily injured survivor. He's gonna need serious medical attention. Send a chopper," he said, and gave off the coordinates to the shelter he'd started to prepare for an outpost.

"Don't call me that. It's nick," he told her plainly. His tone wasn't mean or mad, but stern enough to get across that he didn't like it.
He scowled when she confiscated his cigarette. "So? I could die slipping on a banana peel. What does it matter?" He replied, snatching it back. "These aren't going to kill me tomorrow. They take time. I've done worse."
Nick rolled his eyes. "Come on. Either you're as knowledgeable as you say and you've got something juicy to share or you're full of shit, and you don't want me to think less of you," he snorted. "I won't, by the way. It's okay not to know things. I know that pride usually gets you in trouble that isn't worth it."
He shifted and took another drag. "I wanna know as much as I can. Not in, like, the powerful sense. Just like... I like learning things. I read a lot. My dad used to give me books. But I don't know the kinds of things you know, so I dunno what to ask. You'll just have to offer something up and see if I knew it already."

"I don't think it extends to that. It's just like... you can marry people and perform rites. It doesn't really make you a priest though, but you can like, bless stuff," shrugged nick. He hadn't looked into it fully. He didn't think he'd have to, but now he was curious.
"A suit? Uh, no. Not really. I haven't worn a suit since my dad's funeral. I've grown since then. It's probably too short." He didn't mention it was the same one he wore to his court case that put him in rehab. Thankfully, any other trip to rehab was his mom's choice and not court ordered. But it also meant he had no use for a suit.

Sam and Madison had been hunting down the werewolf that was once Nick's friend. The attempt on Armand had led them to the run down church Nick and his friends frequented. it should've been a quick hunt from there but, as Sam knew all too well, things rarely went as planned on hunts.
They got separated at the church, which gave the werewolf they were hunting time and space to kidnap Madison. Sam heard it thanks to his new senses but he was too slow to catch up before they fled the church.
So Sam was on his own, tracking down a werewolf with only his own senses. He wasn't going to leave Nick without his mother.

"Oh? Well, if that's the case, I was still right the first time. I have things to learn from you," he smirked, and shook his head.
"No, no. You go first if you're so knowledgeable. Tell me something good and I'll tell you something back."

"Well, mostly I meant in general. But yeah, that too," Nick shrugged, taking a drag from his cigarette. "If there's one thing I learned in life, it's that you always have something to learn from someone else. I know things you don't. You know things I don't. We'll meet other people that know things that we don't. And we know things that they don't. That's just how it goes."

@winewhiskeybloodandchocolate asked:
"I have so much more to learn." @couldawouldashouldaa
"From me?" Hel pointed with a finger right at her own sternum, looking very much like a spooked possum. "Erhm, that's highly unlikely, but alright."

"Did you know you could get ordained online?" Nick smirked. "I read about that like last week. I was thinking about doing it just for fun. Now it sounds like it might actually be helpful."

"Sounds like we should get some anyway," he shrugged. "Are there a lot of ways? Are they as... grotesque as this one?"
He was already trying to think of a way to keep lamb's blood fresh for a hunt. Never know when you'll run into a djinn.

"Oh... that's uh... terrible," Nick replied. "I think I like the three wishes better." Though he supposed it was a better way to go. Dad went, feeling desperate. Gloria didn't go as herself. Calvin had probably been a piece of shit for a long time, but it still hurt.
"How do you kill them? We should be ready, in case that's what we're up against."

Nick nodded. "Yeah... being away from parents can be hard," he said. He was thinking about losing his father more than the number of times he left his mom. Addiction was a terrible thing, and he was glad he got through that. And when it wasn't about addiction, he was mostly fine. His mom wasn't easy to deal with. She was too damned stubborn. She had done some shitty things he couldn't get past for a while. But it was tough out there and he had still needed her more than he realized. She kept him alive.
And then she died, and he almost died. He knew his sister was out there, somewhere, and that probably felt similar to how Logan was feeling.
"Armand told me that there was a war back home, so your dad wanted him to take you somewhere safe to rebuild. That your people would be coming this way," he said. "It'll probably feel like it takes forever. But I bet they're preparing to come. I met a man from the east with a similar story. He gave me a book the day I got shot. Maybe he was one of yours. Maybe your dad's coming soon. And maybe we'll find my sister soon... it'll work out. Families reunite. I got separated from mine a few times. We always found each other. I mean, look, you found me for Armand, right? He's our brother... your dad will be here when he needs to be."
He wasn't sure if it would make Logan feel better, but he hoped it would at least help him feel less alone.

Logan swore to himself as he struggled to keep the small metal trellis he had managed to cobble together to stand up right as he tried to place it in just the right spot. The young Savior had been growing a whole row of tomato plants in the greenhouse they had made, doting over them like leafy children, watering them and fussing over them.
He swore as the trellis shifted to the side and he managed to push it back with a mumbled curse.
"Stupid fuckin' thing. Stay!"

"I haven't. But Armand mentioned them. He said they would be good to breed, and we'd have a decent food source," said Nick. "I imagine we'd keep the ones you found as pets, though." And eat their babies? That would probably be worse, but survival was survival.
Nick watched Logan in silence for a moment. "What're you thinking about?" He asked. "Whatever it is, you're not alone. We can get through it together."

"What's on your mind?" Nick asked, noticing the shift in Logan's tone. It wasn't about the gardening, he could tell. But with things the way they were, it could be anything. It could be as simple as Logan worrying about running out of food.
Once the trellis was secure, he stood and dusted his hands off. "This place is really coming together." It sure beat the stadium. It was far more comfortable. They had a few more people in their group, but not many. Enough to pass out a task load.

"Djinn?" Asked Nick. "What's that? What does it look like? What does it do?" He was going to be doing a lot of reading. But he was excited for his first real hunt besides, well, Sam. Which was and wasn't a bust all the same.

"I know," said Nick. "I'm not worried. It's normal. It just hurts. We can ask my mom and Travis, too. We're surrounded by parents. I usually just carefully pull his hand away, but yesterday, he didn't wanna let go for anything. I had to tickle myself free, and it definitely still came with yanking."
He opened the book and started to read to the twins, letting Hope feel the image first. He didn't know how long Jonathan would be grabbing at it, and she deserved a turn. It was nice to see her face light up and pet the image. When she was done, he let Jonathan feel.
"Happy birthday, babe!" Stella made him a cake. The icing is a little lopsided but she only had so much time to decorate after the twins went down. It's still yummy.
Nick grinned as he looked at the cake. He pulled her into a hug and kissed her cheek.
"Thank you, love," he hummed into her shoulder. "You're amazing." He wasn't sure how she found time to bake him a cake with the twins while he was at work, but he was thoroughly impressed.

Nick shook his head. "I don't mind. I mean, you don't have to, but you can... I don't really know how to explain what happened." His mom would have a lot of questions. Travis, too, probably.
“Are you okay?”
Send me “Are you okay?” and i’ll generate a number! Your muse will find mine: After an accident
Nick was driving home from college. He'd already had a rough day, struggling to focus on his work. He was smart, but that wasn't enough. He was pretty sure he'd be flunking out soon, and worried about how he'd break the news to his mom. He was pretty sure that this was the only time she'd ever been proud of him. Well, that, and maybe how long he'd stayed clean so far.
It had all happened so fast. He didn't know what hit him. He'd been paying attention to the road, but somehow, there was still a collision. But where? His world was spinning, even after his car had stopped doing so. He couldn't figure out what was up or down, or where he was. How did it even happen? For once, he wasn't being reckless. He was following the speed limit, and paying attention to the signs.

"Guess I'll have to start tying mine back," Nick chuckled. "I dunno how to teach him not to do it. I mean with how young he is."
He took a seat on the couch with the book and patted the cushion next to him so Stella and Jonathan could join.
