STAGES OF DIVERSIFICATION IN FACE DESIGN
STAGE 1: Textbook Same Face Syndrome
The only thing that separates these character designs is the hair, theres no variation in eyes,nose or mouths or ears, they are blank slates that dont communicate anything. You may see this in: manufactured dolls, beginner artists, etc. Variation in Heights of the characters may happen but it suffers the most when variation in ages arent communicated at all.
STAGE 2: Same Shapes but Variation in eyes.
Eyes are the easiest part to diversify along with hair, it can communicate archetypes fast and well. You may see this in: this is an standard in anime, the base may be different, but the idea is the same, its especially common in animes where theres a lot of female characters to keep track on.This is also common in a lot of media catered towards young girls in other cartoons.
STAGE 3: The “Im trying to be diverse but i still go with a basic base for my characters”
Slight variations in noses, shapes, ears, while still maintaning an standard in proportions for those features, nothing is very exaggerated still.Wrinkles may be added for variation in age. You may see this in: alas, a lot of media, anime or not, in the case of anime, a lot of well budgeted animated movies, in the case of western media, almost every disney female character follows a formula in conventionality unless they are a villain. A lot of proffesional artists are well off with this method.
STAGE 4: Complete Diversification
These characters have their own individual base, none of their features manifest the same way as there is variety in lenghts , separation, ages, eyes, ears, noses, so on and so forth. The features can communicate personality, family traits, etnicities, anything you want it to communicate. You may see this in: a very good indie game maybe, this is hard to come by especially if they are female characters. This doesnt mean its “better” but its certainly always welcome when i see it, unconventionality is very pleasing.
I did this to be more helpful, to break off from the kind of “tips” i tend to see where artists just say “you just have same face syndrome and thats bad” because I can clearly see people tend to be biased to One certain idea of what it looks like, or have troubles breaking from conventionality and a certain style. This doesnt have to make anyone feel bad, as mentioned, many professional artists are well off not diversifying faces much, because character design is not the only thing one has to focus on artwork after all, some specialize in other parts of the piece rather than the subjects in it!

1. no nsfw, hard gore, gore involving children, bestiality, etc.
2. prices ARE negotiable but im not putting up with someone who wants to pay like 5$ for a full body pic
3. half of the price up front and half after its done
4. not necessarily a rule but i want to make it clear that if there’s something wrong with the piece you should let me know so i can fix it for you!

rosheeeee, how do you draw edges???? they looks so nice???
thank u !! an tbh i jusr copy from what i see on pictures and visualise how I do my own edges… so like if you don’t know, google and try and replicate what you see.
Edges aren’t completely random - they go from ur scalp in a specific direction so it doesn’t make sense to add an edge where theres no hair to gel it down from:
so like…. if u drawing a specific hairstyle and don’t know which direction to go, check out pics on google to help u with which directions ur edges should go:
how i draw edges is just with a thin small size or a small size blending brush:
i terms of types of hair and edges…..having edges and 4c hair isn’t impossible - I’ve done it before, but drawing edges with super short hair or hair thats shaved (like the whole head) doesn’t actually make sense…so be careful! hope this helps love ;9
