the idea that restrooms, locker rooms, etc need to be single-sex spaces in order for women to be safe is patriarchy's way of signalling to men & boys that society doesn't expect them to behave themselves around women. it is directly antifeminist. it would be antifeminist even if trans people did not exist. a feminist society would demand that women should be safe in all spaces even when there are men there.

idk if I’ve posted about this before but by far the strangest things that’s happened to me in retail was the time someone’s total came out to my birth-year and I said “hey! that’s the year I was born!” and then the next customer’s total came out to like $12.57 and just bc I’m a weirdo I said “hey! that’s the year I was born!” and without missing a fucking beat this like, 70+ year old man said

“Ah! Another like me! We’re few and far between these days, aren’t we?”

And I was like oh man this guy’s sense of humor really aligns with mine! And I laughed and made some other joke about being immortal and thought that was the end of it,

but this man.

He stood by the register for five more minutes. Maybe more. Which let me tell you is an EXCRUTIATING amount of time for something like this to happen.

And he just kept upping the ante!! He starting talking about some REALLY specific details regarding day-to-day life in the 1300s to the point I started getting worried that I’d misled a genuinely immortal being to believe I am also immortal.

He eventually politely left when I got too busy with other customers to awkwardly respond.

Who the fuck was that guy.

this started as a joke but then i started actually thinking about it and now im really annoyed that IDs have this one letter that doesnt mean anything for cis people and is a huge pain in the ass for trans people when we could instead have literally lifesaving information so emergency medical services could just check ur wallet to see which blood to give you so you dont die or whatever But No

can't stop thinking about how buck is very much still on the hamster wheel. him being with a man doesn't change that. he's still letting relationships just. happen to him. yes discovering his sexuality was a big, BIG step but in terms of the actual relationship. he's still doing the same thing. he still 'found himself in a relationship with no idea what to do when things start to go wrong'. he still had to be told 'use your big boy words and talk to your partner' by a third party to fix his relationship. the fact that this is a man is the ONLY thing different about this relationship and relationships past. he is still. stuck in the same cycle. i don't know where they're going with this relationship but. buck's romantic woes are not Fixed yet "off the hamster wheel" show me where. he's just running a little slower babes

For everyone going to protests, remember:

Bring a shit ton of water. More than you think you need, and then more than that.

Bring a mask. Preferably a gas mask, but anything is better than nothing.

Be alert. If you see something get thrown, even if you’re not sure what it is, run in the other direction. Better safe than sorry.

IF YOU GET TEAR GASSED:

DO NOT put milk in your eyes. Flush your eyes out with water, milk can cause infections in your eyes. Additionally, milk is no more effective against tear gas than water. Milk is effective against pepper spray.

Flush your eyes with water immediately. Keep rinsing them for 10-15 minutes, or just as long as you can.

TAKE OUT CONTACTS

When you shower, take as cold a shower as possible. It will suck, but hot water will enlarge your pores and let the tear gas seep in deeper. Be very thorough with soap, remember to wash your hair too.

Remove all contaminated clothing immediately, put it in a plastic bag and wash it as soon as possible. If you got directly tear gassed, you may have to throw the clothes away.

Anyone feel free to add to this, I just felt the need to make this post quickly since I just got back from a protest and saw so many people flushing their eyes with milk.

This problem is nothing new, but this specific example with these numbers puts it into a fucking brutal perspective.

To put these numbers a different way: A Taco Bell burrito that used to cost ~7 minutes and 20 seconds of minimum wage work now costs ~30 minutes and 30 seconds of minimum wage work.

You used to be able to work at Taco Bell anywhere in the country and make enough money in one hour to buy at least 8 burritos (maybe 9 if you're a manager or something) and feed, like, 3-4 people a decently-filling meal. But now, the same amount of work at the same job will get you one meal for one person. And this change has happened over a mere 15 years.

Remember this whenever you see rich people demonize younger generations for our financial situations, when they call us irresponsible for not investing a ton of money in savings accounts.
