Our Lady of Mt. Carmel with the Boy Jesus
This image was commissioned by a client whose father teaches at a boy’s school under the patronage of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. He wanted this particular icon to feature a young teenage Jesus, around the age of the pupils attending the school.

Our Lady of Chivalry by Theophilia
“Oh what strength do the servants of this great Lady possess, to overcome all the assaults of hell! Mary is that tower of David, which is built with bulwarks; a thousand bucklers hang upon it, all the armor of valiant men. She is as a well-defended fortress in defense of [those who love her], who in their wars have recourse to her. In her do her clients find all shields and arms, to defend themselves against hell.”
– St. Alphonsus Ligouri, The Glories of Mary  “Mary, the beloved Mother of chosen souls, shelters them under her protecting wings as a hen does her chicks…To ensure their safety from the hawk and vulture, she becomes their escort, surrounding them as an army in battle array. Could anyone surrounded by a well-ordered army of say a hundred thousand men fear his enemies? No, and still less would a faithful servant of Mary, protected on all sides by her imperial forces, fear his enemy.”
- St. Louis de Montfort, True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary

“I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?” (John 11:25-26)

His (Jesus’s) mother said to the servers, “Do whatever he tells you.” (John 2:5) Let’s be honest… Most of the time, we should just listen to our moms and do what we’re told.

Gracious St Joseph, protect me and my family from all evil as you did the Holy Family. Kindly keep us ever united in the love of Christ, ever fervent in imitation of the virtue of our Blessed Lady, your sinless spouse, and always faithful in devotion to you. Amen.

“Those who give themselves to prayer should in a special manner have always a devotion to St. Joseph; for I know not how any man can think of the Queen of the angels, during the time that she suffered so much with the Infant Jesus, without giving thanks to St. Joseph for the services he rendered them then.” St Teresa of Avila

“When the angel appeared to Mary, God was announcing this love for the new humanity. It was the beginning of a new earth, and Mary became ‘a flesh-girt Paradise to be gardened by the new Adam.’ As in the first garden Eve brought destruction, so in the garden of her womb, Mary would now bring Redemption.”

Holy Family of Nazareth, make our family one with you. Help us to be instruments of peace. Grant that love, strengthened by grace, may prove mightier than all the weaknesses and trials through which our families sometimes pass. May we always have God at the center of our hearts and homes until we are all one family, happy and at peace in our true home with you. Amen. #lent2020 #day22 #40for40 #holyfamily #prayforus #jesus #mary #st joseph #catholic #saint #backtothedrawingboard https://www.instagram.com/p/B-BMx2CFNM8p0pxtykuVU7rtcNaZoPZ4mjnPfo0/?igshid=18kr7zv0hk0zw

“If you put all the love of the mothers into one heart it still would not equal the love of the Heart of Mary for her children.” – Saint Louis de Montfort
The Immaculate Heart of Mary is some of my favorite iconography, so I tried it in my own style. Her right hand was a disaster, but otherwise I’m satisfied with the piece.
If you’ll notice, I have no singular, consistent way of drawing Mary. I will draw her as a grown woman, a teenager, a Caucasian woman with blonde hair, a Middle Eastern woman with dark hair...it all depends on how I wish to represent her, and how different cultures have depicted her.
