I see so much of myself in Imelda. However, I donāt know if itās a good thing. Iām hard and stubborn like she is. I scare everyone when Iām only trying to help. My partner left me and I hide me pain with pride. I used to sing as well but I donāt anymore. I want to give myself the benefit of the doubt that someday perhaps Iāll overcome my bitterness and sing again the way Imelda did.

So I just realized the subtle foreshadowing use of purple in this movie???
Purple is widely known as the color of royalty, so itās of course appropriate that it be Imeldaās main color. Sheās the family matriarch, more of less its āqueenā. No one else in the family, dead OR alive (or really the entire cast!), wears it.
Like Iām seeing lots of pink here but no purple, except for Imelda. So it makes her stand out even if we donāt make that mental link.
But wait! There IS another member of the cast who wears purple!!
Hiding in plain sight from his very first scene! In a visual cue that immediately ties him to Imelda even if we donāt know it yet! āRoyaltyā is the last word you associate with him by looking at him but thatās thanks to excellent character design and character writing! Pixar, you pack of sneaky little foxes!!
Like, I know a few of us have wondered why they couldnāt have put HĆ©ctor in some different clothes at the end, and I feel like this was why they didnāt. Heās the same HĆ©ctor weāve always known, but now heās retaken his place at Imeldaās side as the forefather of this big, beautiful family and strangely enough, he fits right in.
Look at this lovely royal couple.

I want to watch CoCo, but Iām really scared to because I know that this film is about a little boy who played guitar when his parents donāt approve. I always wanted to play guitar never did in my childhood and my family didnāt support
my passion for music. I got my first guitar at 25 and immediately fell in
love with it. Iām scared to watch CoCo because I donāt want to feel guilty for not going after my dream in my childhood. So many years have passed that I could have spent with my favorite instrument and I can never go back.

I watched Coco many times, often to the point I would I would watch it every single day for a week. I never knew why. I donāt come from a Hispanic background and I always wondered why I was so drawn to this movie. I always played it off as the animation being gorgeous, which it was, but I realized what it
really was: the family dynamic. My family isnāt close at all, even my grandparents/uncles/aunts/cousins/siblings arenāt close to me. Coco inspired this yearning in my heart for a large family and I still dream of the day Iāll get that warm, loving family. It means so much to me and Iām so grateful for that.

Iām currently planning my first solo trip to Mexico because of my deep love for Coco. Iām in a rough patch of life to the point where Iām breaking, Coco is how I get through day to day. So seeing Guanajuato and Mexico City personally would be amazing. I just hope Iāll have enough courage to do it.
