Something I think is so important to acknowledge with the Columbia university protests is that these students were the class of 2020
the seniors, passing up on their college graduation, where once high schoolers denied their prom & graduation due to a global pandemic that the American government scoffed at.
They are not children protesting a war they "don't understand", these are students at one of the most prestigious academic institutions in the world, they are well educated young adults looking back at the milestones that have been taken from them and willingly letting go of their second chance, because that is how strongly they believe in this cause

"We were meant to live in community. We were meant to provide for each other. We weren't meant to be enslaved to a system that kills us and doesn't serve us. And I think that that is something that's not being talked about enough in the movement, that scares the shit out of the powers that be. [...] They have given you the blueprint. If you can rely on your community, and realize that you don't need to rely on the system, that you can rely on each other… If that starts happening around the nation, outside of the student ones, that's a revolution. The revolution is here. It's outside your door. And it's community."

FULL TRANSCRIPT:
"The students at these encampments have given you the blueprint for a general strike.
So I know I look busted; I've been at the encampments all day, but I wanted to bring a conversation from there to here. Because I think that it is a really important thing, because if you're not at these encampments you're not feeling it or understanding what's really going on.
But one of the things that I think really is scaring the shit out of them - and you would only know this if you were at the encampments - is how much this is rewiring everyone's brains to see how easy it is to provide for each other and live in community in a way that gives the people power, and to not rely on the systems that have been enslaving us.
You see how all the food is being provided by the community, everybody showing up with what they have cooking for each other. You see the medical tent stocked with everything you could possibly need, and you see people with skills to be medical support there. You see people there teaching, teaching each other how to protect each other. You see people there talking and having conversations about the world around them, and communing with each other, and sitting in the grass, being outside, grounding themselves and connecting dots and realizing our power together. You see them overpowering the police and pushing the police back, because they are learning how to defend themselves. You see a little faction growing, that is self sufficient.
We were meant to live in community. We were meant to provide for each other. We weren't meant to be enslaved to a system that kills us and doesn't serve us. And I think that that is something that's not being talked about enough in the movement, that scares the shit out of the powers that be.
New Orleans is the first non-student encampmnt to pop up, and they beat the shit out of them. More than they did to any student campus encampment. I believe they're still there.
They have given you the blueprint. If you can rely on your community, and realize that you don't need to rely on the system, that you can rely on each other… If that starts happening around the nation, outside of the student ones, that's a revolution. The revolution is here. It's outside your door. And it's community. Think about that. Think about that and get connected. Get plugged in."

Plenty of highly intelligent people end up getting sucked in to cults because they just wanted people to hang out with. There are antivaxxer nurses. Your ability to act on empirical reason breaks down fast if your social and emotional needs aren't being met.

June u r so awesome and i loved being june and john together!!! I was kinda scared bc i didn't know how it would go being two egberts but u were always so fun to hang with :3
Hello! We recently had a user who wishes to remain anonymous send in their concern about the recent closure of our June Egbert role. While we the admin team could reply, June wished to type her own reply which I have pasted below. Thanks for the concern looking out for our community. <3

Hi! gagreelTheatre (June!!) here!
I just wanted to type a thing real quick: I was part of the conversation when it came to closing the BWS June role. I love June (obviously) with my entire heart, but from my personal experience, I felt like sometimes it felt, redundant to have two Egberts. I use to be John and now I’m June, but I’m still basically the same person! So while I loved expressing myself, I always felt sort of painted into a corner of having to sing about being trans or being a girl, to make myself different from ‘John’.
In a group, it’s difficult to not compare yourself to the people around you, especially a role that’s basically the same as you. I personally had a lot of mental obstacles to get over this nagging insecurity that I was a diet Egbert. That’s part of why I agreed with the decision to close the role after I retired, which again I want to reiterate was entirely my choice. I was free to stay and sing as long as I wanted, but it was time for me to go.
That’s not to say there should never be a June singing blog though! If someone has the passion and drive, they by all means should be able to go out and express themselves on a fun character blog!
Just because ‘BroadwayStuck’ might not have a June role, doesn’t mean she’s not out there singing!!
Take care ❤️
